I'm sure you'll do fine considering I literally just told you exactly what the subreddit is titled...
Recommended mods? Hmm...
If I'm going to play Dead Money, then I use these: A World of Pain and A World of Pain: Dead Money.
found here:
as the latter mod makes Dead Money semi-bearable for me.
I also use Nordic Firearms and Book of Earache, along with the mods that they need to run.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/book-of-earache-vegas-edition
http://www.moddb.com/mods/lings-coiffure-nv
https://www.fileplanet.com/220208/220000/fileinfo/Fallout:-New-Vegas---Nordic-Firearms-Mod (If that one doesn't download immediately, right-click on the target for the file and it will let you save the target file and download it)
Mainly because they make the characters look better and add lots and lots of guns to the party.
I also install the NVSE (New Vegas Script Extender) because it enables a lot of the more complex mods to run.
With this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/42507/? - the Mod Configuration Menu.
and
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44515/? - The Weapon Mod Menu, which turns modding your weapons into a less-one time only proposition.
Some folks here like this one:
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/39651/? - Weapon Mods Expanded, but I never got on with it all that well.
Things like better body mods and the like are personal preference.
Thank you for the repsonse. My current load order looks like this. I had more but the game crashed so I turned several off just to see if I could get the plugins/overhauls/fixes/big stuff working.

I had well over 90 previously and had to turn them off to troubleshoot, so I'll have more later once I've tinkered a bit.
MCM doesn't appear in-game no matter what I try, and Stutter Remover makes the game crash as soon as I leave Doc Mitchell's house.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Yeah, MCM isn't working for me, either. Though my setup is more along the lines of
Mine finally showed up in-game once I installed "Bullet-time VATS" and "Realistic Reloading," so apparently it only functions/appears if it can affect the mods in your load order.
Hokuto Shinken, however, didn't apply. Hokuto Shinken doesn't work at all without a workaround for later versions of NVSE, which sucks.
The mods you currently have aren't affected/controlled by the MCM. Pick something like a Gameplay Effect/Change mod or, like me, pick Realistic Reloading and you'll see something. I'm not sure which mods will fall under MCM's control - there should be a list of mods that require MCM you could use to check.
EDIT: Nvm. Activated a few mods, didn't change anything else, and MCM vanished from the in-game menu. :/ Motherf-
EDIT 2: Reinstalled and it seems to be fine. I odn't know if the Archive Invalidation fixed it, or if the Reinstall did. Try those.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!What's a load order?
The thing you just posted?
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I thought a load order was a list of what order you downloaded them in, not just a list of what mods I'm using.
Ah.
Well, depending on the mod manager you're using (I'm using Nexus), it's the list of mods you've downloaded in the exact order that you installed/activated them on the left of the screen. Even though they're in your load order, the mods you posted aren't identified/affected by Mod Configuration Menu.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!That's impossible. When I downloaded most of these same mods half a year ago, the MCM did work.
EDIT: Just downloaded NMM instead of FOMM. Here's my current load order:
Fallout NV.esm Dead Money.esm Honest Hearts.esm Old World Blues.esm Lonesome Road.esm Gun Runners Arsenal.esm Caravan Pack.esm Classic Pack.esm Mercenary Pack.esm Tribal Pack.esm The Mod Configuration Menu.esp
Total active plugins: 11 Total plugins: 11
...Wait a minute. Why aren't my other mods showing up in this copy-paste?
edited 28th Dec '17 12:44:34 PM by Gruntagen
- Almost all of my mods have been installed through NMM so they've shown up there. Are you sure that you manually installed all of the esps/esms in the right spot? It's weird that NMM wouldn't read them if they're in the correct Data folder.
- It's my best guess that the mods you have currently don't have any configurable options that are governed by MCM. If you take a mod that is (Realistic Reloading) then the Mod Configuration menu will show up when you pause in-game.

I've had 3 crashes in the past hour. One during Ghost Town Gunfight, one before I left town with Sunny following me, and another as I was heading down the highway.
I got a screen of blue textures (like I'd just taken cateye in-game) when I got to Jean's Sky Diving. I saved and reloaded and the effect was gone. Weird glitch.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!So, for something different I've built up a sort of Wasteland doctor build. Tagged skills were Medicine, Science, Unarmed, but I've been building Speech and Sneak close behind them. Why Unarmed? Guns would probably make more sense, and Energy Weapons would tie into the Sciency side, but 1) I've never done a full Unarmed run before, 2) I initially wanted to present them as "not carrying a weapon", and 3) it felt most in-keeping with the perpetual drug use. For yes, this is a Logan's Loophole build, for what kind of doctor doesn't create a bunch of chems and inhale them until they have super strength?
Slight catch there, though: I'm running JSawyer.esp in Hardcore Mode for this, which means Logan's Loophole doesn't limit me to level 30, but instead level 21. Ten perks, my friends, and a bunch of them are wasted on the low-level stuff. I can't get Slayer, and I've forsaken Better Criticals in the name of getting a more doctor-y sounding perk. Admittedly even with that, the trait's still pretty damn useful. On we go.
So, one of the things I forgot was that tagging Unarmed gave you Boxing Gloves right at the outset. The Boxing Gloves aren't really useful as a direct weapon, but they allow you to knock someone out by damaging their fatigue. You can't loot them during this period and they're still considered hostile, so it's generally not a real alternative to normal combat, but knocking someone out completely freezes them for a sizeable amount of time. I was stuck with my fists for a while since I didn't really have an idea where Unarmed gear was, so that came in handy. I could barely whittle away at baddies initially, so being able to knock things out first — it usually takes about three punches — was an easy, if somewhat dull and frustrating, way to take out any opposition. Right now those days are past and I have a power fist from Novac equipped, and boy have things turned around.
I decided to run with my unexpected discovery in another way, too. If I may quote the Oath for a moment:
I tried to use lethal force on the Powder Gangers in Ghost Town Gunfight, but all the townies stole my kills. So right now I'm still at People Killed: 0. Don't know how long that'll last, and it's still not a formal goal — but, for now, it's fun to see the playstyle reflected there. Haven't decided if I'll recruit Boone or just skip over to Veronica and be, I dunno, power fist buddies. Arcade is a character I'm going to ensure I run around with for a bit, and I also might try things with Lily. Poor gal, always end up neglecting her. Probably will this time too, in truth.

So I'm kinda dumb and slow so maybe everybody else already knew this. But I wonder if the real world inspiration for Vault 11 (the one where everyone kept killing each other) was based on the Milgram Experiment: "Ordinary people are likely to follow orders given by an authority figure, even to the extent of killing an innocent human being. Obedience to authority is ingrained in us all from the way we are brought up.
People tend to obey orders from other people if they recognize their authority as morally right and/or legally based. This response to legitimate authority is learned in a variety of situations, for example in the family, school, and workplace. "
Entirely possible.
Meanwhile in my Dust playthrough, thanks to mods, I have 7 followers. I have a full posse and we're escaping the Mojave!
I believe it is. I think Oxhorn mentions it in his video coverying the vault.
So I'm going to be going offline for a few months in a week or so to save up for a nice new gaming PC. Been talking about it for years and I'm determined to get it done whatever it takes.
Anyway, one big reason I want it is so I can play FO 3 and NV again with mods. But whilst I wait, I'm swamped with thoughts, reflections and whatnot. As some might recall, my female Courier sided with the Legion.
Well I was just Googling and reading posts on New Vegas and people wondering why the hell a female Courier would ever go Legion. One person suggested a female Courier could help reform the Legion's views on women. After all, you get your face on a Legion coin and everyone knows and respects you if you get high rep with the Legion.
That seems a slim hope though. And even if it was something a lady Courier might think, it would be pretty late "in the game" so to speak. You wouldn't got o the Legion fort and meet Caesar with idealistic dreams of helping the plight of women in the Legion. At least I don't think.
Kinda concluded the only reasoning a lady Courier can use is the one I did - basically self-centered admiration for Caesar. Don't think about all the other stuff, just think about what an interesting guy Ed is and all he's done for you. Vulpes was pretty nice, too.
But yeah, I'm pretty good at rationalizing my characters' actions. But I don't think there's much here besides "I just liked Caesar a lot and didn't think about much else." I remember somebody on another forum brought up one of the Deus Ex games where you can join the side that hates you or something and in their ending you get killed. The poster wanted something like that for NV. But that wouldn't really work since Caesar is the beginning and end of what every Legionary does and you are under his protection.

Naked self ambition and the assumption that "she'd be alright, jack" seems like a realistic option - we see plenty of women (and men) doing actions against their gender's own interest and, potentially their own in the long run. And getting Hoist by His Own Petard is a thing.
Or she could genuinely believe the hype or that brutal autocracy is the only way forward.
Never done a legion run, as I feel my "Evil" run would be a House aligned one. But that would be Pragmatic. Legion is JUST about "justifiable" for a male Courier (Well, more easily); as a woman, think it's more of a reach, or her being seen as akin to a "priest" - which is one of the only trades a woman can do in Legion territory.
I think Invisible War can get away with it a bit — I say 'a bit' because this is still pretty roundly mocked — because every ending to that game, viewed in the right light, is a bad ending. One ending, viewed in the right light, might be really good, but is also very ambiguous and sounds a bit like a robot is brainwashing everyone. Another ending is to basically install Big Brother. If you try to reject all options and kill all the faction leaders, the world ends. RIP.
Every ending in New Vegas is mixed, and while Legion is probably worst of the bunch in this regard the game does focus on both the negatives and the positives of your decision. A 'hahah you died' ending, I suppose it could work, but I think they'd have to handle it carefully. 'Sure, you die', interjects hypothetical internet commenter from another reality, 'but think about what you're bringing to the Wastes.'
Trivia: my Legion playthrough was with a female character. But, yes, I gave them a pretty warped view of the world. The basic reasons they sided with the Legion were the same as anyone else would: a belief, unfounded or no, that the Legion's harsh justice was right and best for the Wasteland, regardless of what role she or others fit into it. And the use of child soldiers, crucifixions, subterfuge; well, it's all part of the greater good, right? She had some issues, I would say, truth be told.
I forget how it works exactly, but I believe the Courier under the Legion would be a citizen of Legion-owned land, and not a member of the Legion itself. They'd likely be left basically alone, so long as they were willing to obey without question any Legionnaire, and acquiesce to any demands a Legionnaire made. The Courier would probably get let off relatively lightly, given their renown.

Yeah, my thoughts pretty much. My Courier was "me" so she shared a core trait of my personality which is being impressionable and loyal. If you win me over, I will do anything for you. I've talked about it a lot in this thread but I think it's one of NV's best bits of writing in the contrast between Caesar and House. House has teh better ideas but he does not inspire loyalty to me. Caesar is..."warmer" in his own twisted way. My Courier just felt stirred by the things he said. Vulpes' lecture earlier did similar. Even Vulpes is, I think, more amicable than House. Maybe it's just the rhetoric they use?
Thinking back though on all the different endings, I remember Cass left in her ending. She was my favorite companion and was right there with me when we took the Dam for the Legion. But then she hightails it out of the Mojave. I can only imagine what she and my Courier said by way of parting.
Yeah, a "you fucked up and died" ending probably wouldn't go over very well...

You could also be motivated by pure hatred of the Mojave and its people.
Or NCR.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. That second point is a great one! I hadn't really considered backstory explanations. Courier could have some bad history with the NCR.
Here, good time to see this thread pop up again, someone pointed me to this mod that seems to have released today. 'Live Dismemberment'. Cheery! But the point is: living NPCs can lose limbs rather than just be crippled.
If the left arm is dismembered, NPCs will be restricted to singe-handed weapons (pistols, knives)
If the right arm is dismembered, NPCs will flee combat.
I haven't tried it yet (and probably won't right now), and I suspect there will be bugs. But 'scool.
