Been a few years since I played a Neptunia game, but I just grabbed the Neptunia bundle on Humble
.
It came with both VII and VIIR which is neat.
I'll probably just play VIIR though. Since I think its just a better version of VII.

Just to be sure, VR isn't required to play VIIR, is it?
I also like how the bundle includes Cyberdimension DLC, but not the base game. Is it because I only paid $12 instead of 25?

Its worth noting my bundle comes with a 90% off coupon for the missing game, so I got it for like $4.

I would recommend the vanilla game over the VR version. It cuts out the alternate endings, simplifies combat, and removes a lot of gameplay features. You can always just play the VR scenes, or look them up on Youtube, they're little skits with the cast visiting your room. Neptune's are really heartwarming actually.

^ I dunno, I like the new combat system a bit that it allows you to kill multiple enemies that aren't within initial attack cone assuming you have enough AP and movement for that...
Then again I just started the game and didn't play original VII for a while, so...(bought the game on release, but was procrastinating on that with other games like Stellaris: Megacorp, Apex Legends, Cultist Simulator and such...)
And no, you don't need VR headset. The head movement in VR mode can be controlled by mouse.

VII made some pretty stupid decisions with its combat system, I think the VIIR is a step in the right direction without stepping backwards to V.

Speaking of VIIR, I just booted it up today only to find that it runs like molasses during gameplay. Like, single-digit FPS. Do I need some ultra high-tech gaming rig just to play this thing or is this a fixable problem?

VIIR runs way better on my PC than the original. It also has a lot lower requirements in the description.

I honestly have no clue. Was it only the VR section that was chugging? You can try to view that in the non-headset view.

So I figured out what the problem was. Apparently my current graphics card isn't powerful enough to run the game properly. Which means not only do I need to buy a new graphics card, but know how to install it without wrecking my PC, which I have neither the money nor the confidence to do.
Does VIIR have a PS 4 release? If so, I might just refund the team version and get that instead.

Installing a graphics card is actually really easy. I'd describe the procedure, but looking up a video on You Tube or similar is probably the way to go.

Eh, I dunno, considering my room is carpeted and just one jolt of static electricity can fry my whole system...
As far as I can tell, no. The headset is not required for the VR scenes.
You do not need VR for VIIR, it is actually better in non-VR IMO as the game can constantly switch between them and setup is a pain.
