"Family tradition" carries a lot of weight. It's kind of absurd just how much to some people.
Interestingly, I'm an example. My dad's family has this tradition that the eldest son is named "Edward." As far as we can trace the family tree back, it's been true. Weirdly, none of them are "Junior," because the other part of the family tradition is that they get a different middle name. So my dad is Edward G., my grandfather was Edward R., my great-grandfather was Edward B., and so on.
As it happens, my dad hates his first name. Can't stand it, to the point that I've asked him why he doesn't go by his middle name (his answer - nobody pronounces it right). So he was adamant that he'd break tradition, and that his first son would not have the first name "Edward." As that son is me, I can confirm that he did somewhat break tradition - my middle name is Edward. And no, he doesn't have a good answer as to why he agreed to put it as my middle name instead, just mumbling something about "it's the family name".
Side note: the irony is, I think "Edward" is a perfectly fine name, but should I ever have a male descendant, I'm not going to use it because I found names I like more for a kid.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. As announced in the Tuesday post on the site; the Kickstarter Movie from last year is now officially available to the general public for streaming on Amazon.com (US only, he says he's working on an option for international). You can rent it for $2 or buy it for $4.
"I'm Commander Shepard, but I guess I'm now your therapist."Chris's Kickstarter for his art book is approaching the deadline and he's less than $500 short of funding. Make it happen!

My Blog | My Steam profileA bit late for a necro, but it looks like this is the final book of Misfile. According to Chris' news, there will be a sequel.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."holy shit it's finally ending???
Read my stories! It's been building up to it for a while.
I'm surprised there'll be a sequel, though.
I'm also surprised to learn there's a thread for this. Doesn't seem like a very active one, though.
To be fair, for a strip a (week)day comic it's not exactly fast in its pacing
Fair enough.
On this final duel, my mind can't avoid to add the Inazuma Eleven "The Birth" theme. IT's just fitting as heaven.

Here it comes the Glitch Hunter of VVVVVV, a loyal Treasure Planet and Battlefront 2 player and "that stupid guy with the shiny subDDnite"I'm sort of impressed with the pacing of the fight with Xaphrael.
I was expecting more time in Heaven, but it's looking like the epilogue now.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Looks like they made the two Ashes into twins.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Sequel starts tomorrow.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed in this ending. Everything from the moment they decided going to heaven onwards feels a bit rushed, like the author was trying to get everything finished as fast as possible. The epilogue, especially, just seemed to kind of... happen. It didn't really conclude much of anything.
My biggest issue with the ending is that the Twin Ash solution does't seem like it should be a happy ending for Emily given where she was before the time skip. I buy Rumsiel coming up with the Twin Ash solution, and it seems a particularly good solution for both versions of Ash. But at some point the sequel really needs a flashback scene showing Emily's reaction to this plan and how/if she came to terms with it.
That doesn't seem good.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."The way everything was tied up just felt cheap. Everyone gets exactly what they want, literal deus ex machina photocopier shenanigans, and even giving the best possible outcome for someone that hadn't been seen on screen in like... 5 years. In the spawn of two weeks of pages and actually about four pages of information.
Avatar SourceWell, it would be an improvement.
Avatar SourceSo, I'm a bit late to this, Misfile is one of those comics that I preferred to archive binge than follow day-to-day. I just caught up the other week.
So... it ended in a way very similar to an old WMG of mine. So it felt completely logical and expected, but I do still feel a bit cheated by the execution.
I had wanted to see how Emily and Ash responded to there very suddenly being two Ashes. Did Emily remember Ash having a twin sister? Did Ashley remember meeting the angels (since the thing with Kate's sister still happened), and if so, under what circumstances? Does male Ash have two sets of memories, or only remember one timeline? From his and Emily's perspective, did the misfile even happen?
This could have had some amazing and potentially hilarious character moments of Ash and Emily trying to work out what the hell Rumisiel did to "fix" things and how to respond to it. (How do you transfer your affection for someone when they've suddenly got a new body and somebody else who didn't exist yesterday is inhabiting the old one?).

What's with the habit of naming your kid after yourself? I know French kings have been doing it for centuries, but if anything, that should be a reason NOT to!
