Its weakness as a trailer is definitely that, while it shows off the game mechanics fine, it does so with a mission completely lacking the series prime objective: an assassination.

Its more of a walkthrough than a trailer me thinks.

[up][up]But isn't he technically not a hitman now, since at the end of Blood Money he left the agency?

Also, I wonder whether it's possible to sneak throughout that entire section. Seems like you have to break cover so that the helicopter sequence can occur. Which is a bit bullshit, honestly.

He didn't leave the Agency, everybody but him and Diana died. So they are what's left of the Agency.

You have my attention.

I hope it's still a sneaky game like the last one (the only one I played.) I don't want a game where you just run around and shoot everybody. I mean, you could play it like that but the game seems to favor only taking out the intended targets and not causing any undue mayhem.

I prefer finding the silent assassin solution to all of the missions. Played through on the hardest difficulty because hitman is one of few games where the difficulty actually makes the game harder.

I haven't played Hitman. But that Dance with the devil mission in Blood money looks like fun.

the playstation blog has some new information, including why they didn't bring Diana's VA back.

I've never played Hitman but hearing it described on the bombcast leads me to believe it's my type of game. So is this one first or third person?

All the Hitman games are third person and some have an optional First person mode.

I hope this one does. Nothing against third person but I've had a preference for first for a while now.

Frankly, I'm a little skeptic about this. IMO the Hitman series was getting better with each game because they encouraged you to try and get silent assassin more and more. If you go back to hitman 2 you notice that after a while the levels almost force you to take a more violent aproach to things, Contracts was better about this but there were a few moments where it went back to that, Blood Money on the other hand was almost made entirely about trying to get SA and was basically a pure stealth game with the option to slaughter everyone(if you REALLY wanted to).

With the new focus on combat I hope they don't just improve the action part of the game and forget the stealth mechanics, that's what they did with splinter cell conviction, yeah you COULD apparently be a master stealth pacifist but the game REALLY didn't try to help you along the way, it was almost if a dev noticed you could play the game like that if you were crazy and decided to say it was a "feature", no offense to those that liked the game, it did have some cool moments but I prefer the old ones gameplay style. Anyway, this discussion isn't about SC but it was just an example of what I don't want things to be like.

"With the new focus on combat"

Are you basing this just on the trailer? If so I have to point out that even blood money's trailer played up the violence.

The impression I got from that Q&A article is that both run-and-gun and stealth are viable and fun options. I doubt they'd harm the stealth options and gameplay for the sake of straight-up-action gameplay.

SO Deus Ex 3 style. I'm happy with that.

The choice to kill of Diana is something of a mistake, from where I'm sitting. It ensures that this game'll be exciting and powerful, but it doesn't suggest much for the long term viability of series. It just feels like the shooting of sacred cows for the shock factor.

It's disappointing.

[up] Yeah and combining that with there being no contracts it just feels to me like they are dismantling the Hitman series.

@Thatguy: "PSB: Is it fair to say that stealth and aggression are equally valid strategies in Hitman: Absolution? HA: There are many more options for different emotional states and approaches to the gameplay. Some players do prefer a more violent approach; in earlier Hitman games, you were punished for that. If you screwed up, the entire level would come down on your head. But now, action is a more compelling option. But to our veteran fans, rest assured, the stealth is fully intact and better than ever! "

And the trailer DID give that impression(and there's also the trend to make Actionized Sequels nowadays), so I think that's enough evidence for me to at least be wary that they are going to improve combat more than stealth, that's ok with me if they at least KEEP the stealth of the previous games but I'd like if if they at least keep the stealth-friendly level design of Blood Money.

I didn't mean to offend anyone with that, it's just something I'm worried about. I'm not grabing some torches and burning the devs or something, I think that if we can say a game looks cool from a trailer or some preview info we can be worried about something too, if the game is released and turns out to be as awesome as blood money I won't say anything bad about it.

I did read it more like Deus ex, where both options are equally viable, but I do see your point. It is a bit concerning.

Hopefully we'll end up with deus ex and not conviction. -shudders-
