Pokémon anime

5 PM ET was a pretty good time for the Target Demographic. Not so much for the Periphery, but then what are you going to do? And even then, much of the Periphery should've gotten the Sneak Peek episodes.

Thought: Ash getting poisoned by Nihilego would actually make for a good plot ala the Battle Pyramid episode where he got possessed by the King of Pokemon or whatever it was.

... Man, this show gets really weird at times.

I think the regional bird is still very much on the table.

Based on what is potentially left, Rockruff would be pretty neat. I could actually see Ash getting the Midnight form since it's the more rebellious of the two. And given how much more slapstick is in this series, I could see that working out here with Lycanroc being disobedient.

If Ash gets an Alolan form of a Kanto pokemon, then Sandshrew would be pretty neat.

I don't know with the entire Pikipek line appearing in Rowlet's capture episode it kind of felt like they were passing the torch. Especially with how Toucannon gave Rowlet permission to join Ash.

@Great T: Speaking of which, did everyone still playing Gen 6 download this month's Meloetta and Arceus?

Really hoping we get one last chance to get Mew before the Gen 6 Mystery Gifts come to an end.

After a long struggle, and with a heavy heart, I have recently started watching the Pokemon anime. ... mostly because of Lana.

I have to admit it's actually quite enjoyable. The animation's very nice, it's actually got a decent amount of genuinely funny moments, a lot of lovable characters like Pikachu or Lillie or Mallow or Rowlet, and of course every scene where Lana gets to do stuff is automatic gold.

... I don't know, man, sometimes there are just these characters who can just be standing there and I'll squeak with excitement?! ... I don't know why I keep becoming enamored with characters who get like 99% creepy loli artwork, though. That's pretty sad.

Anyway that was my post for this thread, I'll probably not be too active because chances of getting spoiled on the games seem only marginally less high here than in the general thread.

Team Rocket had a radio show during the BW era and the first episode begins with James (or rather Kojirou) ranting in-character about how boring they had become in the anime at that point. See for yourself.

I get the feeling Shinichiro Miki felt the exact same way as he was reading those lines.

Heh. I guess they love the Rockets as loveable losers who fail all the time while doing the exact same thing....for twenty years.

I suppose, if they'd freshened up the formula with those three a little sooner, he'd have had less to complain about because they wouldn't have gotten used to the same pattern for years now.

Aside from Mallow, all the SM girls in the games and anime were designed to appeal to Japan's younger girl obsession. This is obvious with Lana, Lillie, and Acelora (who hasn't appeared int he anime yet), and a continuation of Bonnie from XY.

In the games, Lillie is practically a waifu for the main player character and a typical JRPG female lead. That's probably going to be scraped for the anime (since they did that with Serena last gen), but so forth.

You don't seem to think much of Lillie.

She's alright, and she has an interesting backstory in the games, but that's basically what her character is. Japan's twitter and pixiv pokemon fandom is only obsessed with her because she's a girly blonde waifu character.

The anime could go in a completely different direction with her, and they're already sort of doing that having her scared of pokemon, so I have no idea what I'll think of her anime incarnation until this saga has more episodes.

That still seems rather dismissive, to be honest.

I mean, I might think she's cute, but I also like her because I think her story is one worth following, and I've floated around the idea of a game that depicts her adventures in Kanto.

He might not get a Wimpod if Guzma appears and he has his Golisopod; the main characters generally don't use Pokemon the villains use.

Don't really see why Guzma having Golisopod would prevent Ash from having one. He's not a main character that status is reserved for Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket. What supporting or recurring characters get should not impact what the main cast gets. The main cast has shared Pokemon with supporting cast before and is often used for character development or rivalry purposes.

While Guzma is the Evil Team Leader he's not the true big bad of S&M. He even goes straight in the post-game. In general Team Skull is much different from previous evil teams, they're overall much more sympathetic, Ash having his own Wimpod could be used to highlight that Guzma and Team Skull aren't all bad. Or Guzma's Golisopod could do what Paul's Torterra did with Ash's Grotle and help Ash's Wimpod out at some point.

What I'm saying is that while e.g. Ash will get (at least) the Pika-Z-Crystals, the Fightinium, and the Decidium and/or Incinium, it will be Kiwae that gets the Firium, and perhaps a few others, with Lana getting the Primarium and possibly the Waterium if someone else doesn't.

If we go by the Ending Ash is also getting Firium-Z despite Kiawe also having one. So I don't think the Z-crystals will be distributed amongst the cast, at least not in the sense where everyone gets their own unique set. At least not right away. I do think is by the end game Ash will settle on seven key Z-Crystals for Pikachu and his Team and the others will likely do the same-though not as many since I'm not really seeing Ash's classmates catch more then two Pokemon each.

However I do agree the others will in time get their own Z-Rings with Lana being the most obvious. Lillie will probably be last.

While the Trial Captains are his classmates. The anime's function is to promote the games. Promotional material has stated Ash will be doing the trials. They aren't just going to switch out half the trial captains with completely new characters. Though I could see the trials themselves being adjusted to fit the anime/story format.

I think Lillie's game story is fine AND that she's a waifu character. It doesn't need to be an either or.

I'm down with that, really. I just really like her, and I want to see her continue to grow as a character.

As someone who keeps getting attached to characters with shitty fanbases, I have to strongly claim that the way a major or majorly loud portion of the audience receives the character does not necessarily say anything about the value of the character themselves!

Like, obviously fans are going to dumb down these characters to fit them into their own little moe categories like the Database Animals that they are, but I find most of the characters very well conceived and more three-dimensional than you might expect. I'm bored to death of the standard "cute girl" tropes, even though Lana might hit some of them. She's just got enough unique personality that she doesn't read like a stereotype to me, but just like a genuinely sweet and surprisingly mischievous little person.

Can anyone else see Lillie with a Mudsdale? Its cliche, but All Girls Like Ponies. Getting one could be part of her character development as she gets over her fear and becomes more comfortable with Pokemon.

Lana wants to find a strapping young swimmer in the games. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Nah, Mudsdale is a big, strong horse, you have Ponyta if you want to see a pony.

Well, considering Hapu and her Mudslade might as well be Lillie's legal guardians in the game...
