Antifa is an unruly mob at best. They cause way more harm than good. It's just a bunch of frustrated people who have made no real contribution to society going crazy and razing their own home town to the ground. When I watch any video of them and their skirmishes between them and a group like the Proud Boys, I think "It's just gang warfare for white people."

All I know is, you wouldn't catch me outside with a mask setting a dumpster on fire, because I have a house to pay for, a wife, and a job to go to in the morning. When you have actual responsibility you aren't going to participate in that nonsense. Unless you are roused into a mob mentality.

What a convenient coincidence! It's almost as if Tats wants to legitimise his beliefs by using the image of black people, but doesn't want to scare more Patreon supporters away by having a totally over the top beating of a black person so he suddenly materialises a white guy to take the punches.

Probably for the better. The last black guy who threw something at Sam was throwing a molotov that he just happened to carry around with him. A milkshake is pretty innocuous by comparison!

There have been unconfirmed reports that Antifa "milkshakes" in Portland, Oregon sometimes consist of cups filled with quick-set concrete — heavy, caustic, and (when set) rather more rigid than traditional milkshakes. Very possibly a false claim, but given how widespread the rumor is, it's probably only a matter of time until some idiot tries it.

Well, the intent of my comment was to point out that one element of Tats' strip is "Ha ha, prissy Uncle Sam is upset because he was hit by a milkshake! What a loser!"

But some milkshakes can be very nasty and not funny at all. And I think Tats knows this ... and he's just fine with it.

Possibly but considering the source material of this particular strip it's kind of hard not to relate to real life politics.

Milkshake throwing is a real thing here in the UK at campaigning politicians. Sometimes eggs too, though I can't remember any instances of rocks or worse recently

It's taken pretty seriously and there's usually criminal charges for the individual concerned, as it does count as some kind of assault

Tats plays it for laughs and sneering contempt at the elite and their police protectors - e.g. Sam's concern is for his mink coat, plus the stormtrooper disabling the criminal (who just assaulted Sam) is then giving said criminal an over the top beating...

I don't find it funny myself - what if it had been a concrete breeze block or something like battery acid?

Tatsuya's version of the Spirit of America, Uncle Sam, is depicted as a depressed corporate stooge who's sold out Democracy and driven Liberty away.

Tats is also veering pretty darn close to endorsing violence against other people if you're not getting your own way: - when a group of people do that in the street, it's usually called a riot and criminal assault and damage.

No country is perfect, but America is one of the better ones out there. People in the USA are allowed rights, corrupt politicians who get caught go to jail after real trials, and government policy is against citizens being disappeared in the middle of the night by thugs with electric cattleprods

It's like Tats has some kind of grudge against people who don't conform to his precise outlook on life. Could he be a sociopathic fanatic who never gets out of his mum's basement because his parents have kept him locked in there for public safety? It's definitely a possibility!

When his decades outdated fringe ideas aren't accepted by the mainstream of society he screams "Death of Democracy" and rages against the system because he isn't getting his own way

Yeah. From a throwing a milkshake at someone. I don't know if he's ever noticed, but if you want to test the effect of escalation, go to someplace public and give a random buff guy a wedgie and observe what happens. That's the thing that annoys me about the mass movement mentality behind Antifa. In their minds, words are equivalent to action and justify physical action.

It doesn't.

So when escalation occurs their first thought is "What the hell? My action was justified!" They blame society but then attack individuals.

I mean, I hope those who might be sympathetic to Antifa's aims realize that Tatsuya basically followed their style in terms of "by any means necessary" by taking away their ability to say things contrary to Tat's views. Because in his view, men are trying to co-opt the feminist movement. After all, of you don't agree with him on 100% everything, you back the patriarchy.

This will be the last time I bring up politics at that moment though. I understand people might disagree with my stance. It only comes up because that's where Tat went with it.

Yeah, America is more of we have a free society but with a corrupt elite. However, China is more of a straight example of a dystopia, but no one ever tries to hit at them.

I don't like getting too much into the game of "corrupt elites". You can't have corrupt elites without willing buyers. As effed up as it is, being rich and avoiding what most of us have to go through is just a perk of being rich.

I am absolutely against that, of course. Everyone should be treated equally when brought before the law. But when you have money, you have more resources. When you have more resources, you can do more things. I mean, back in the last decade, Lindsey Lohan was caught driving under the influence several times and never did ANY jail time. I did have a friend who got a DUI twice. His sentence was unique. He'd go to jail every weekend for a year, paid a HUGE fine, and of course, had no license for that entire year.

Having the money to get a lawyer who knows how to bend the law in certain ways...Or your company being able to afford an accountant that knows every single tax loophole...Or being able to BUY your way into an ivy league school...or being able to SELL ADMISSION to an Ivy League school and have the media focus on the PARENTS who just tried to buy the best life they could for their kids so THEY don't get talked about...money is a weird thing.

We can all be bought and sold. Tat included. So it's not just corrupt elites, but everyone that do not abide by what Freud would call our Super Ego: a sense of justice and duty that counteracts our base human desires; to avoid pain, receive pleasure, and shirk punishment.

What I don't get is... it would have made A LOT more sense to depict the black guys getting beaten, if Tats wanted to make a point about police brutality. If I understand correctly racial dynamics in the U.S, that kind of things happen disproportionately more to black people. But again, Tats undermining his own points is kind of a tradition nowadays.

Just like with the ladies, Tats can't bear to have anything bad happen to the people he wants the readers to support. Because who doesn't want to root for the borderline untouchable demi-gods (outside of mindless action schlock such as Commando)?

Tats? You can't actually have equality without treating people equally. Either keep your continuity going and show one of the displayed protesters being beaten by a police officer, thus showing that you see these people as PEOPLE who can slot into any aspect of your story, or don't degrade them by using them as a shield to deflect criticism.

True equality treats people equally. Fake equality treats groups as special when it's convenient and ignores them when it's not.
