Are you guys arguing that the pimp is not really a bad guy? Is forcing women into prostitution through debt slavery not bad enough for you?

Nobody's saying that forced prostitution through debt isn't evil.

I am terribly annoyed though that something with a lot of storytelling potential is treated by Tats as an uninteresting ass pull that's already resolved the comic after it's introduced.

Redmess, did he really force women into debt slavery? Please name some of his victims so we can bring charges against him. Even one.

Yeah, that's another problem of Tats'. He can't bring himself to actually show anything bad happening to a woman without retribution being right around the corner.

It wouldn't be much of a problem if he was keeping this lighthearted, but he's dealing with some VERY serious subjects of discussion. Because he can't bring himself to show instead of tell, it just makes the points he's trying to make look like he came up with them on the spot. The only hint that the pimp was using debt slavery was that he let Sad Hooker Lady sleep at his house, and that doesn't really tell us he did that.

The worst part is, Tats had the better part of a goddamned YEAR woth nothing much really happening with this comic. He had countless opportunities to actually put some real detail into her backstory, try and make her into an actual character and not just some kind of feels sponge, perhaps even give her the small dignity of a goddamned NAME.

But no. All we know is that she ran away from foster care (and we don't even know the full circumstances behind that either, meaning it's quite possible she just overreacted to being asked to do chores or something) and she slept at the Pimp's place after he found her.

TL;DR, Tats has no idea why Show, Don't Tell is a thing.

Just to clarify, Redmess, I was only saying that the Pimp and the other "baddies" of Sinfest are PATHETIC bad guys. The kind of bad guys that gets rejected from kids shows, the kind that makes Swiper and the Hamburglar look like master supervillains in comparison, the kind that gets pity gifts from the Urpneys, the kind that appears in all villainy 101 textbooks at the chapter "Things you should never do", the kind that gets referred as "the losers" by the League Of Super Evil.

Another big problem with TWWNN's lack of backstory: How old is she? We were told that she was thirteen years old when she ran away and Viper the Pimp took her in. How much time has passed since then? Is she fourteen? Eighteen? Twenty-eight? She was sleeping in his bed. Then he started taking pictures of her. When did he start farming her out for other men to shtup ... er, bomf? When did she realize that she was a whore?

I'm more curious as to where the hell Tats got the idea that people liked pimps, let alone worshiped them like the Johnbies do.

I mean, yeah, there's the concept of "look pimpin", but that's more about style than anything.

Where did he get it? It's from his own little universe. Sinfest is now an allegory for ... Sinfest. And nothing else.

Tats regularly rejects reality, so he can further his savior complex.

Since we're all united in our enthusiasm for this strip I propose a game: If you were face to face with any of these characters, what would you say to them? What one question would you ask?

It's pretty impressive that Tats managed to think up a Plot Tumor that's possibly even worse than the Sisterhood.

The Johnbies might be the worst idea in the history of writing comics both in their intent as a "fuck you" to the audience and their actual role in the story.

I think the only ones I’d want to talk to would be Buddha and the Dragon. And my only question would be “wanna hang out?”

I don't know about the worst idea... there was that comic where the Ultimate Warrior is very heavily implied to have raped Santa.

I don't think Sinfest will outdo THAT anytime soon.

Having seen that comic, I'm pretty certain what it was trying to imply is that the Ultimate Warrior accidentally knocked out Santa, and (per the rules of such situations) was now taking his place to save Christmas. More an example of bad art then a bad idea.

As for the questions I would ask...

Slick: Dude you know she's not worth it right? Have you SEEN how she treats her supposed girlfriend? C'mon, I know this lady called Sapphire who may be willing to give you a chance.

Santa is also naked, with unindentified white liquid splotches covering his body. It absolutely looks like a lot more than just "knocked him out".

Also, Warrior is completely naked while pulling Santa's pants on.

I mean, of course Santa's naked. Have you seen what the Ultimate Warrior wore in the ring? He didn't really have much to switch with him to preserve the Jolly Fat Man's modesty.
