So, to summarize the penance and not-so-likely redemption, Squig decides to get rid of his porn, he goes to the hell hole, is comfronted by no-name who steals his moment and makes it about herself, he tries to do penance by cop and has the door shut on his face, and now is being taken against his will to the Church of Porn. Even accepting all the twisted internal logic of Sinfest, this is unfair. He's just being denied his redemption arc over and over... and my bet is that he still will be blamed for it.

If this story were in the hands of a good writer, he could do a great commentary about peer pressure and/or paint Squig as a tragic hero. But that would be giving Tats way too much credit.

Those don't look like glowy eyes. It's just the contrast with the darkened shades of everything else in the "panel".

I think it's interesting that in this storyline, the men generally come off much better than the women do.

Slick is friendly towards Squig.

The cop treats Squig in a mature and professional way.

Porno Man sees Squig suffering and genuinely wants to help.

Fuschia is hostile towards Squig and tells him to go away.

The girl shames Squig for his past actions, despite his efforts to improve himself.

Cleo makes a sarcastic jab and Squig and doesn't care that he's upset.

These kinds of mixed messages are the main reason why for a long time I was never sure if this strip intends to glorify feminism or satirize it. Sometimes I'm still not sure.

Let's be fair now, she was perfectly nice to him until Prudence had a PTSD episode over one of her porn movie covers from Squig's collection that he had sought Fuchsia's aid to burn (to which she consented without reservation or accusation). Even then, she wasn't exactly hostile to him, just sternly telling him that right now his presence is causing more bad than good (he doesn't really need to be there for the burning of the rest of his porn stash, anyway; she didn't say that she's stopping that, you know).

One of the more maddening things about Sinfest is how Tats blatantly refuses to positively acknowledge the efforts of men to better align themselves with his own world view.

It was not about Sad Hooker Girl. Squig came to her for help because he wants to better himself. What does Tats decide to do with Squig?

He's being told to leave from that healing process because Sad Hooker Girl randomly saw her own porn DVD during a porn DVD burning? She doesn't even adress him by name, like some sort of being unworthy of consideration.

He's being treated like he personally raped her and every other actress and is completely undeserved.

I'd like to look into Tats's brain one day and see how he sees himself. Is he a guilt-ridden self-hater like Squig? Is he wish-fulfilment author avatar Monique? Is he the only good male radical feminist?
