I can see a lot of people getting upset by the misdirect/rugpull but they're going to be missing out, Scott Pilgrim Gaiden: Ramona Flowers VS the World is so far a legitimately great companion to and followup of the original comics and the movie

I can understand not liking subversion for the sake of it but luke literally every interview was about how its not gonna be a straight adaptation and its gonna do its own thing.
They should have explicitly stated it to be a sequel/spin-off/Final Fantasy VII Remake instead of an adaptation that was going to differ in some places.
It feels to me like a lie by omission.
Well this is certainly gonna cause some Discourse™.
Goody… I’ll prepare my bunker.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. It literally isn't. They were explicit about it.
It's silly to be upset over this.
Yes. They told you there would be changes. They are not obligated to spoil surprises.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. If I say I bought some milk at the store and then it turns out I bought literally all the milk in the store and also a few cheese wedges, then yes, it's a lie by omission by my standards.
You can say I'm overreacting, but you can't say it isn't deceptive.
They still aren't obligated to spoil surprises and plot twists.
Would you prefer it if they told you ahead of time that Darth Vader is Luke’s father? Or that Bruce Willis is a ghost?
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. It fundamentally changes the work, and the very nature of it, IMO.
...I feel like none of us are going to be changing opinions, here.
Yeah. Cuz it's supposed to be a surprise.
They told us upfront it wasn't gonna be the same. They didn't want to spoilt how different it would be because that's the big twist.
Okay, I’ve been on Rotten Tomatoes. Plenty of people like it, but there ARE a few who are ABSOLUTELY LIVID.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.- Grounder Ever heard of the term "Execution is the key"? Because it's best to watch something that even if it was used before, you should see for yourself if it works well in its own merits.
So… should we do a character page for the show given it’s a new continuity and timeline?
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.I would hardly call it 'silly' to be upset about the shows direction. Yeah how different the plot actually is is meant to be a surprise. But not everyone likes surprises like that.
The First manHuh so from what I'm getting at, they pulled a Masters of the Universe Revelation and made Scott a decoy protagonist.
Which is a...... twist I'll give it that. How demoted is he in this?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'd say go for it.

Then I will. Once I am home. In the meantime, I will reiterate that there is a recap page for those who want to have at it.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Seeing the spoilers, yeah no, this ain't it, chief. Its just another "Subverting expectations pre release" thats not an actual Graphic Novel adaptation. Seems like a skip for me too.
Watch SymphogearDude, c'mon.
Every time someone claims to be realistic is a dour cynic in disguise.I’m not especially impressed by it either. It’s the same sort of thing as Netflix He-Man or FF 7 Remake. “Oh ho ho we subverted your expectations, aren’t we so clever” and all it does is make something that simultaneously can’t stand on its own but is only interested in tearing down its predecessors. That’s a big problem with these kind of works; the new entry has nothing going for it but deconstructing its source but too often its obvious the creator has no idea how to deconstruct the source. And that’s especially clear here because Scott Pilgrim was already a very self-aware and nuanced story where a big part of it is the characters being deconstructed and revealed as massively flawed. That well of deconstruction has already been tapped, so I feel like this show is left with very little to actually say at best, at worst has to throw accusations at the original and its fans that neither is guilty of to justify itself. And it’s all made even worse by the show having to pull an implicit Happy Ending Override on the comic as part of that.
It’s far from bad. The animation is great, the music great, the writing is decent. If it had been advertised as what it is instead of a straight adaptation or if it had been a completely original story, I’d have had no issues with this. But as is, it feels the way I’ve seen other people describe it; you were advertised one thing and you were given something else entirely, like somebody who asks for steak and gets salmon instead.
I also feel like it’s got a massive Continuity Lock-Out problem. If you haven’t read the comic, watched the movie, and played the game, the anime is going to be incomprehensible, which is kind of a problem when it’s being advertised as a fresh start/jumping on point.

I won’t try to change your mind, but I will strongly disagree.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.
