How exactly does the Mundane Fantastic different from Reality and Sci-Fi?

Reality is basically everyday life like NCIS/the SWAT series (CBS)/FBI series. Or like the Die Hard movies or Rainbow Six (R6 operators who are from the police).
Sci-fi is something like Ghost in the Shell.
Mundane Fantastic is something like Patlabor (I'd put this in Sci-fi).

Only if said character is from a property that allows for customization. But that will have limits...

My character is more like science-fiction and is customizable based on the setting.

Inspired by this talk
in the "Looking for Players RP" thread.
This idea is based on the same generic "characters from (X) property is crossed over". However, these (law enforcers) characters are stuck in a World War III-era world in an island state recovering from the said war. These guys are placed in a police unit as cover until they're able to figure out why they're there and find a way home.
Although, an emphasis for this is for one person to at least play a certain type of law enforcer character.note
I'm open to other character types.
Basically character choices are limited to existing properties.
