Episode 14: Whoever maintains that golf course needs to get fired. That pebble robbed us of an Eve-Aoi kiss.

Big talking point of this episode is Eve's Orange Bullet. This essentially makes her go into the zone, and dials up her golfing accuracy to Newtype levels. Kaoruko is gonna shatter after seeing that. This also suggests some very interesting things. Eve has a flashback to Aoi's dad while using Orange Bullet, and onlookers comment how that shot was something Kazuhiko used. There's a good chance that it was Kazuhiko that taught Eve how to golf. And that was the reason Leo sought Eve out, because she's the protege of his deceased rival.

So Eve is definitely the Amawashi kid, but how the hell does no one know about this?

I think that Amuro's reaction to Aoi passing out means that he's her actual dad and he's worried she's inherited his terminal illness.

The crazy bit:

Eve and Aoi are the same age (15). If they're sisters, how is it possible?

If they are somehow twins, how'd they get separated in the first place?

Well either way, if they are related, the ship is as good as dead, breaking lots of shippers' hearts...

I think it's more likely that Aoi was adopted while Eve was lost.

I mean. The real question is why Eve's mom has no idea about her

And the new episode has just confirmed the worst for shippers like me... KAZUHIKO IS ALSO EVE'S FATHER...

All the speculation I saw before the start of the new season was that Aoi was adopted, so I don't think it's a problem. It's not like they ever lived as siblings together or are related by blood or anything like that. Unless it was also confirmed that Aoi is their shared parent's daughter by blood?

This episode was very very unsubtle about Amuro being her Eve's' real daddy, so I wouldn't count the ship as sunk quite yet.

Also lol at Kuroda working in another Madlax reference: in that he named Eve's mom after Eleanor Baker and Margaret Burton.

Okay, so, they're not related— Kazuhiko likes blondes, and Seira goes for world-class golfers. The problem now is that most characters aren't aware that Aoi isn't Kazuhiko's kid

The lampshading of Nada's role in the story was amusing, but I do wish we got a more legit fight out of them. Ended up way too similar to last episode

[up] I’m having a hearty chuckle at how hard Nadaminami jobbed, after making so many jokes about how Japanese high school golf was more intense than the pro leagues. At least Leo has another rival golfer waiting in the wings.

And yeah I don’t think Aoi and Eve are related. Their family situation is a soap opera mess. I’m assuming Kazuhiko’s family got into an accident of some sort, and Kazuhiko thought Eve was dead, and ended up marrying Seira? Which seemed to be more of business relationship and Seira ended up having a kid with Amuro.

It was also nice to see Lily and Klein again!

I'm wondering if Aoi in the rain next episode will be A) her golfing related illness, B) her father having another family or C) seemingly not being able to kiss Eve. tongue

So, with Eve and Aoi being around the same age, I think what had to have happened was Seira was genuinely in love with Amuro, but she was determined to create a golf dynasty, and he didn't want to pass his illness on, so she settled for Kazuhiko. Kazuhiko was in love with Eleanor, but something something, so he decided to secretly have two families. Aoi was the result of Seira and Amuro having one last fling and the condom failing

New episode dropped, confirming what really happened between Reiya, Seira, Kazuhiko, and Eleanor, and thus, with the circumstances of Eve and Aoi's childhoods:
It all starts with Gouzou Amawashi, and his desire to expand the Athena brand (I think...). He has Seira on a duty to bear the child with the best golfer, but at the time, Seira loved Reiya, but Reiya had to quit due to his weak body failing him in the middle of a match, which gave Kazuhiko the victory, then, he up and left for Europe. While that was happening, Seira ended up having a child with Reiya: AOI, against Gouzou's will, but then, Kazuhiko came back, frail for some reason, to take Seira as his wife and raise Aoi. But then, he up and left for Europe again. Why? Because in Europe, he had a child with Eleanor: EVE. There, in Nafrece, he taught Eve golf and raised her, but when Eve was 8, she lost Kazuhiko AND Eleanor in a shipwreck which leads to her being found by Lily and Klein which leads to Episode 1. Meanwhile, Aoi and Seira were devastated...
And now, the tragedy is on Aoi, who is clueless as to who her real father is... And yet, Seira refuses to tell and just stirs her away from the curiosity trail. This can only get more tragic from here... But hey, it seems the ship is saved after all...

That scene where metaphorical chains started binding Aoi and her mom while talking about her parentage reminded me a lot of Psyche-Locks from Ace Attorney. Now this is the kind of soap opera that I can get behind.

Unfortunately Seira is determined not to let Eve compete with Aoi, so Eve has to find some means of wriggling into the tournament. Seems like she’ll be heading back to Nafrece for a bit, would like to see her meet up with a few familiar faces!

If I had a nickel for every Bandai-Namco Spring 2023 anime that features a lesbian being manipulated by her mother who is repeating the own tragedy of her past, I'd only have 10 cents, but it's funny that it happened twice.

Damn I love this show. This plot is so over the top but actually works. To bad S2 has some production issues it seems. Let's hope it will hold.

It looks like we'll have 3 interconnected plots:

1) eps 1-8: Mafia Golf in Nafreece

2) eps 9-12, S2 1-4: Japanese High School Tournament

3) resolving Eve's past: S2 eps 5-12.

[up] Speaking of resolving Eve's past...
New episode: It looks like we've come full circle as it turns out that Eve's mom is the daughter of one Michael Burton, who is the head of golf company Arios, which has ties to the MAFIA...
