You awaken on a cot in a dimly lit basement. Looking around, you see several other cots with teenage girls. Perhaps more worrying is the fact that, looking down, you see that the concrete floor of the basement is covered in complex chalk marks, drip of candle wax, and glowing lumps of crystal. There are two sets of stairs leading up, one in the middle of the basement up to presumably the main house and another set against one wall, probably leading to a side entrance/exit. The door to the main stairs open and an older looking man, probably early 40s, comes down the stairs carrying a tray with several plates of toast, a tea pot, and several cups.

"Good morning, guardians, I hope you have an explanation for why my familiars insisted I recover your comatose bodies and bring you to my sanctum to recover?" he asked.

You see, floating above his head, the words 'Felix Sebastian, Necromancer/Demonologist Lvl 3, aka Mr. Grumpypants'.

Sarah was filled with questions as she had no idea of how she ended up in such a place and what that guy was supposed to be talking about, at the moment she saw the big letters appear on top of him she clapped in amazement "wow sir that's pretty cool, it's as bright as a firefly, are you a magician?" she suddenly remembers her last moment, she had jumped off the school roof after some especially barbaric bullies made her feel insufferably awful, she suddenly becomes a lot more somber and sad as she asked scared "am I dead? is this hell?"

Bree, too was confused, despite her worries about the strangers intentions, she thought it was kinda funny that he's known as "Mister Grumpypants".

"Uh...Hello..Mister Grumpypants, why are we here?" While speaking, it was clear she was trying to hold in her laughter.

Well, until she, too remembered her last memory. She was in an expedition with her teammates against some goblins, due to her pacifistic ways and..the other's arent that. She decided to lie to the goblins by saying she wasnt with them, one of her teammates, rather irrationally, shot her in the back. And well, she's here now. She goes back to worrying about his intentions.

Felix mutters under his breath, "Yes, MY hell." and then takes a deep breath. " I am no mere trickster nor profaner of the mystic arts for tawdry commercial gain." He gestures, wind seeming to swirl around him as he raises a hand. A staff, carved out of dark wood with glowing purple runes, materializes in his hands. "I am Felix Sebastian, curator and guardian of the greatest collection of magical tomes in private hands on this continent, and I am *FAR BEYOND* cool and I am *NOT* Mr. Grumpypants!" He slams the staff into the ground, his hair flaring out as you feel a surge of magical energy.

"While my power is the result of study and the careful casting of arcane rituals, you lot were handed powers by Fayte for her own incomprehensible reasons to be Guardians of this world. Fayte has charged me to assist you, including to help you use the Gifts that She has chosen to give you. One of those 'gifts' is the ability to see information floating over key individuals... green for allies, including unwilling ones, yellow for neutral people, those unknowing of the magical battles between worlds, and red for known enemies."

Fayte: The sentient personification of magical energy of your current world/dimension, locally name as 'Earth'. Being effectively omnipresent, omnipotent, and ineffable, you may think of Her as a Goddess. Pronouns: She, Her, Hers

Marisa looked down at the magic circles that cover the floor, utterly flummoxed. Despite all her technical knowledge on the forces of magic, she could not tell hide nor hair about the complex weave of the underling spell. She reached down to touch the runes, but pulled back when she felt agitation in her hand.

Her ears perked up when she heard the wind rush around, and noticed that she was in the presence of a magus. She listen intently at what he had to say, but a question quickly form at the back of her head the made it hard to think on what he was saying. However as soon as he was finish Marisa launched into her question. "Sir Sebastian, would you grant me the privilege of reading your collection of magic tombs?"

"OH! Sorry for that, its just the letters said that and..im sorry!!" While saying this, she did Puppy-Dog Eyes, this is not controllable.

Felix growls. " It's tomes, not tombs. Books. And yes, while you are not busy saving us all from invaders from other realms, I would be glad to share my collection of accumulated knowledge."

He lets go of the staff, the staff vanishing in thin air, then sets the tray of toast down on an empty cot. "Now, I assume you want breakfast. Young people do still eat breakfast, yes? My kitchen stock is currently... limited. I was not expecting guests."

The explanation that Mr grumpypants gave them just made her feel even more nervous "magic? Battles? excuse me but I don't think I'm the right person for this I have never even been in a fight before and know anything about magic, why does it have to be me who got picked up for this?" she asked desperately, she felt the pretion of entire realms depending on her already crushing her mind and making her hyperventilate anxiously.

Marisa looked embarrassed about her slip of the tonged. "Thank you for the opportunity to stu... wait did you just say that you needed my help with..." She shock her head. Surely that must have just been a bit miscommunication, that must have been directed at the other people in the room. Who would want her help with something like that when she is unable to cast the simplest spells.

Returning back to the conversation, she spoke up once more "I will be happy to partake in this morning meal." She tried to give a little bow, but her oddly fidgeting hands could not seem to grasp the hems of her dress.

Felix offers plates to the others, and then takes a piece of toast and takes a small bite. "You all have been chosen by Fayte, a being of near infinite knowledge and power, to protect this world by becoming magically powered Guardians. Why? It could be that Fayte has used her abilities to view the future and knows that you will grow into the heroes we need, it could be that there are forces beyond even my knowledge that are behind you being chosen, or it could all be an elaborate practical joke Fayte is playing on me."

"Oh! I know magic! I know 5 spells!" 5, the beginners amount of spells. It is also the amount of spells in the first volume of "My first spells".

Felix slumps his head. "We're doomed." he mutters, then takes a deep breath. "Ok, spells. Five. Dare I hope that at least one is an evocation or combat spell?"

Marisa glared at the woman siting across from her. "Well aren't you lucky."

She quickly took a piece of toast and some butter to distract herself. But she could not help to think that it was not fair. That this woman could be so lazia fair with her magic while she, who has been studying for years, was incapable to cast magic thanks to fate itself.

Felix waves his hands in the air, chanting under his breath. A tear forms in the air and what appears to be a large dog covered in spiky scales, with two large horns on its head, pushes through the tear.

TRAINING ENEMY - HELL HOUND. Level: 1. Stress: 0/10

Bree, just now realized she is without her items (but still doesnt know she's in another persons body). she digs in her pockets, cause whoever's body she's in must've been rich, right??

What comes out of the pocket is a glass bottle with green stuff in it.

Seeing Bree moving, the hell hound bares its teeth and moves closer to Bree.

Felix calmly take another bite of his toast, then sees the bottle Bree is holding. "No, wait, stop!" he cries out.

"Why?" Bree was about to throw it at the beast, but lowered her arm.

guess i should mention Bree is holding the Giant Growth Formula.

"For the same reason you don't want to throw gasoline on a fire!" snaps Felix. "That's a growth potion!"

"Should i drink it?.." Bree was conflicted. As a magic user, she knows you cant control such a potion, and usually, it makes the user giant, but what if its permanent? Should she use it later? WILL IT EVEN MAKE HER BIG????

Felix holds up his hands, cupping the air in front of him and miming a box. "No! Basement! CONFINED SPACE! No growth potions!"

"OKAY BUT DO YOU HAVE A MICROPHONE I NEED IT TO CAST SPELLS!" Bree pockets away the potion.

The hell hound pounces at Bree.

Hell hound level [1] x dice [4] = 4. Bree's luck [2] x dice [3] = 6

Bree manages to duck and the hell hound slams into the wall.

TRAINING ENEMY - HELL HOUND. Level: 1. Stress: 6/10

Felix reaches out. His right forearm, up to the elbow, seems to vanish as it pokes through thin air.

Felix's level [3] * dice [3] = 9

He pulls his arm back, now holding a karaoke microphone, and tosses it to Bree.

8(d20 roll) x 2 (Bree's luck)= 16, idk if thats good but i think it is.

Bree, luckily, catched the mic. With her magic kinda coming back, she attempts to use one of her spells: singing a lullaby to the enemy, thus making them drowsy, eventually they will drift to to sleep :).

Bree's lullaby begins to fill the room.

 Bree's Cunning [2] * Dice [6] = 12. Hell Hound level [1] so can't beat the roll of 6 

The Hell Hound collapses, snoring.

"Well, one of you passes the not totally useless test." says Felix. He points his staff at the Hell Hound and the sleeping demon dog vanishes in a cloud of purple sparkles.

 Bree feels a surge of warmth as she gains 4 points of favor 

" Perhaps something stronger for the next test?" Felix waves the staff and a three headed version of the Hell Hound appears. Two of the heads sniff the air, looking menacing, while the third head sticks its tongue out and pants happily.

Bree decides the best way to deal with it is by petting the third head.

"Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? Yes you are! Yes you are!"
