I've been a long time user of tvtropes but have always been too intimidated to try editing anything, and have been wayy too nervous to just jump in for fear of getting the etiquette/organisation totally wrong. I don't even know if FAQ is the right place, or if there's a discussion area better suited for this tbh. :')

I've gotten into Moomin in the last year and think The Moomins literature entry could do with a big overhaul, namely splitting it into multiple ones for tropes pertaining to the more distinct adaptations (one on the books, one on the three anime adaptions, one on Moominvalley 2019, etc.) right now they're all just kinda lumped together into one main, ymmv, and trivia. but uh I have no idea how you're supposed to go about changing that level of stuff or if this is a moderator job haha.

I've read the editing guides, but this is a little more advanced. especially because I'm guessing all of its pages would have to be re-directed, and a new literature entry made?

Lots here. First of all, WELCOME TO TVTROPES!.

Secondly, to directly answer your question; yes, any troper can edit pages, ideally to expand on context and legitimate tropes.
To more narrowly answer your question, I'll start by sharing that in the Long Term / Perpetual Projects forum, we have a thread for "Creating Franchise Pages Where Appropriate", here.

Now to address this page specifically. Generally we want to see a work page expand as a single-medium franchise page first. It started as a written media? Then we want a Literature/ work page for it. Expand that page first, with folders for specific works. Once you have enough information for one work, you can move that folder to its own page.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.

thank you so much, that clears a lot up! I'll look into the thread since that'd be a good start.
