A thread to discuss Vampirella comics.

Some info on the upcoming run.

Last week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Dynamite Entertainment’s Vampirella is going full-superheroine later this year in Vampirella: The Dark Powers. Modern Guardians of the Galaxy co-creator Dan Abnett is writing the series, with art by Paul Davidson, colors by Andrew Dalhouse, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

The series is a crossover event between Vampirella and Project Superpowers that will bring Vampi into the team. That means a new costume for Vampirella, and a new set of rules to try to abide by. According to Abnett, the stakes are very high…and Vampirella’s never been particularly fond of stakes.

“This one will be an absolute blast,” said Abnett in a statement. “This is high-concept, pan-cosmic superheroes with a quite savage and dangerous character tied up in the heart of it. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to be different, it’s going to be a head-on genre clash… and it’s going to turn into an epic story!”

Last I checked, Vampirella started off as a vampire babe from space, but then something happened and now she's NOT from space, and then there was this push to give her an outfit that's more sensible and less NSFW, but then she got her signature (and distinctive) outfit eventually, so...

Where are we right now with Vampi? Dynamite hasn't really been on my radar for some time no thanks to that racket going on this chubby YouTuber having a Kickstarter about some covers? I know they've been publishing The Green Hornet, but that's by Scott Lobdell and nobody likes that guy.

As far as my reading tells me, Vampirella was retconned from an alien to a vampire from hell in the 90s when dark urban fantasy was all the rage. The space origin occasionally gets used in elseworlds or crossovers. The Christopher Priest run (which I haven't read) was the previous run. It lasted 13 issues.

That runs kinda combines the two origins. With her being created using the blood of a demon Lord but that her mother lilith still founded a planet of vampire aliens.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."

I finished reading the 2010 run by Brandon Jerwa. It's a mixed bag for me. I liked the earlier issues and Sofia didn't much care for her death. The final issues got a bit confusing and I wish the monster country lasted longer.

Only Vampirella I read was when she fought Xenomorphs. It was fun.

I was enjoying the Nancy Collins run.

Pity it didn't last.

I have no idea what's going on with her now.

Love is in the air with Red Sonja and Vampirella Valentine’s Day Specials 2021

Over in a terrifying alternate reality and Vampirella’s special, the Daughter of Drakulon has married Dracula and the world faces a dark crisis like no other. The king of the vampires has subjected humanity to cattle for his people, and his bride has sworn a sacred oath to him. However, hope survives with a rebellion brewing in the shadows. Who is the mysterious Bloodwing and why does Dracula fear her so much? And will she return in future stories? (Yes!)

Prolific Vampirella writer Tom Sniegoski brings in comics newcomer Jeannine Acheson to co-write this tale ripped from the Book of Prophecy, following successful collaborations in prose. They’re joined by rising artist Marco Ramos.

Linsner checks in for a cover on this issue too, completing a perfect set for collectors. Fan-favorite artist Gene Ha (Top 10) depicts a seductive yet threatening Vampi on his cover, and Sarah Stalcup features on the cosplay cover.

That's a shame but, well, I kind of hated what they've done with her in the past....well for a long time.
