Yeah, cant say that there's much truth to that, especially not in 2020. There are several women who love metal/rock music, and men who enjoy pop/soft rock, and with musical boundaries breaking down at a rapid rate, you may have people on either gender who enjoy both styles (as well as other genres).

On a trope titled Men Buy from Mars, Women Buy from Venus, it is said that men listen to and prefer hard rock and/or heavy metal music while women listen to and prefer soft rock and/or pop music. While it is known that it is a known gender stereotype that boys/young men would be seen in their room strumming on an electric guitar or playing Guitar Hero and girls/young women would be seen in their room dancing or playing Dance, Dance Revolution, other music genres like country, classical, funk and techno seem to be not known or not discussed. Yes, it seems that most would think that men are automatically rockers/metalheads while women are automatically teenyboppers. I wonder if this could be an idea for a new trope or has it already been created and discussed?
