Yeah, everyone knows Walken as always playing really weird characters.

He just did some great dramatic work in Severance last year, and there's a second season coming.

He still does dramas pretty frequently, really.

Still does.

But this isn't the Christopher Walken thread, so maybe we could get back on topic.

Get ready to drop some F-bombs, because Dune: Part Two just got delayed from November 3, 2023 to March 15, 2024.

Freaking studios refusing to pay their actors and writers more! How much longer can they keep doing this? At some point, both sides will end up losing, right?

As predicted, Dune 2 bumped to 2024 in light of the strikes [1]

Noooo! Goddamn you studios! I want this strike to end and I want it to end in favor of the unions!

[up][up] The actors are striking now, too, remember. The studios can't replace actors with CGI yet (which is why they're striking now, instead of later).

[up] As I understand it, the studios think the unions will starve (yes, that's the language they used) in October, so it should extend at least to then. But the unions are prepared for that, hopefully.

It was always going to last a few months at minimum, due to production schedules. People outside of Hollywood haven't really been affected by the strike yet; new stuff is still coming out, because it was finished before the strike. But they're running out of their backlog, and the studios are going to be losing money and goodwill much more publicly.

I know, it was just a joke. But yeah, it is annoying, and I hope the strike ends soon, in favour of the writers and actors.

Well at least WB can run separate, strong awards campaigns for both Dune: Part Two and Barbie now. That way, neither ends up conflicting with the other in the process.

Yeah, but chances are there's some other big lineup for next year, right?

[up] At this point? No. It's very unlikely Warner Bros has anything huge lined up for next year that can actually get released. They would have like, mentioned it already to ward off accusations that they'll run out of content by early 2024.

It's most likely that this move is specifically to put something big in a timeframe where there's nothing in the release pipeline.

If the strike isn't resolved by the end of September, there's going to be a gap in the releases next year which makes Disney shedding and dumping already finished stuff even more confusing and moving around already fully completed stuff is the only mitigation strategy the studios have.

No, I mean in general. No one has anything big lined up for next year unless they move something already completed. Dune Part 2 is likely to be up against some indie movies and a bunch of theatrical rereleases. But it's not being moved there to make it more likely to succeed, it's just to try and cover up the lack of anything to put in theatres, especially since Barbie is probably going to sit in theatres for a while longer.

Yeah, once they run out of backlog, the studios are really going to start feeling the squeeze of the strike.

Cool with the idea of seeing movies I didn't get to see in the theaters there during re-releases. I really enjoy those Fathom Events.

Gives me the chance to show my friend Dune 1984 since he hasn't seen it already. That movie's a trip. Once I've seen Part Two, I'll show him both of those movies as well—or he could see Dune 2021 on his own steam, but either way.

I don't know if they'll actually do that or what movies they would pick, it's just an obvious thing to have something in the theatres.

Still excited myself certainly. Bummer it's not out sooner, but it fairs better for its award chances that way though.
