DarknessAwaits from R'lyeh Since: Jul, 2014 Relationship Status: You cannot grasp the true form

I am a bit late, but hopefully not too much so!

  • Name: Philip Ross Audanshet
  • Age: 17
  • Hero: The Brave Little Tailor
  • Skills:
First and foremost, something he was already pretty good at and is now maybe too good at, is bluffing. After all, the Tailor was the one who became famous because 'with one smack, [he] killed seven'- even though the seven were mosquitoes'; during his tale he furthermore got through many trials simply through quick wit and a lot of bluffing. Think of this as, basically, a huge charisma bonus on deceive and persuade rolls.

There is another ability this Hero gives him, however, which is quite more fearsome: the more he can convince his opponent, and to some extent others around him, that he is indeed strong and to be feared, the more it will become true. Not in a major way, naturally, but this will manifest as a small buff. To make an example, let's say Philip is challenged to a swimming contest. Should he be able to convince his opponent he is a pro swimmer, he will become slightly better as a result. Should he also be able to fool other observers (if any are present), he will get slightly better again. He would probably still not be that good if he starts with no skill, and even if he starts with some skill in what he's attempting he'd only be able to get slightly better, but it would be noticeable.

  • Equipment:
A few screws, a pocket screwdriver, and a Swiss knife. No real reason, he just feels like they could come in handy at some point. If you ask him he'll probably make up some sort of story, but that's a different matter. He also has an habit of picking up things he finds lying around if he finds them interesting.

  • Personality:
The first thing to understand about Philip is his love for the melodramatic. From speaking in haughty language even if it does not fit the general conversation register, to somewhat emphasizing his gestures, to embellishing any accounts of actions he undertook, regardless for actual truthfulness. He is what some might call a 'chunnibyou', inasmuch as he would like you to believe he does possess some extraordinary skills he does not have. That is not, however, to say he is- like the general usage of the word implies- trapped in his own fantasy land. Oh, no, far from it. He is quite grounded in reality, to the point of being quite pragmatic when push come to shove. Thankfully, he can count on a rather quick wit to help him, though he often acts far too impulsively. Indeed, there have been times where he made wild claims or tried to convince others of things he could not possibly do just because he talked without thinking, and in more than one of these occasions, he had to pay the price and admit he was kinda making it all up. Even quick wit, good bluffing abilities and luck can only go so far. A last thing to note is that while he undoubtedly loves being the center of attention, he is not one for large groups.

  • Backstory:
Honestly? His life is not that much of an interesting tale. His family was kinda normal, both parents working and in a happy marriage, though they had ran into some minor economic complications that meant they had to work more than they would have liked to. Still, they took it in stride to be able to provide their son with a comfortable life. Which, he did have. Though perhaps not the most brilliant in school, he did not do bad. He was average, really. His hobbies were a bit out of the 'popular' category, too: where the Hero that would later bond with him was a Tailor, he himself walked the path of the craftsman (starting when he was about ten). That became the one passion he would cultivate more than any others. He would often design simple constructions, then get to work with a small saw, a lot of patience, and more than a few accidental cuts: most times, at first, he would have nothing to show for it, but gradually, he became better, especially as he grew older and more experienced. Nothing special, nothing outstanding: but he was not bad either. His melodramatic ways never once left him, nor did they originate anywhere. They just had always been there, and they came natural to him, so he saw no reason to change. Besides, in a way, it was 'his own thing'. He didn't have particular trouble making friends, though maybe not many, and while he often got looks or was made fun of, he ignored it. All in all, a pretty normal life, if you look past the theatrical way he would present it.

  • Appearance:
In contrast to how he acts, his appearence is kinda plain. His hair is black, wavy and a bit on the long side (while still not reaching his shoulders), his eyes are green, he is quite tall and is really neither fit nor unfit. He sits in the middle if anything. He wears a red hoodie with blue jeans, usually, and black shoes. Underneath he has a white t-shirt with a scorpion logo. He likes scorpions. He will tell you that it is because they can be used as magic-repellents (something he picked up from some video game he played once) but really he just finds them cool. The only thing to note is that he usually wears black gloves. It started because he would injure his hands while working and didn't like to go to school with bruised and wounded hands, and from there it just kinda stuck.

  • Misc:
For no real reason, he remembers quite a bit of random trivia. Probably owing to the fact he enjoys reading. However, he sometimes makes things up when he does not know what he's talking about, and hopes he won't be called out for it. Furthermore, due to his hobby, he has developed a good upper body strength as well as spatial awareness (mostly in the form of instinctively measuring distances, even if aproximately). Finally, he is a very heavy sleeper. You will need to shoot a cannon to his face to maybe get him to start waking up, and he will be quite groggy and pissed if you do. (Do not actually use a cannon, though. That would kill him, and he wouldn't like that very much).

Is this still going? I'm a bit interested, but I haven't seen an update in the sign-up or RP thread in a few days, so I was holding off on writing a character.
