All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.

This abriviated quote is what awaits anyone first laying eyes on the gates to Dionysus Academy, the worlds lead theater and acting school in the country. From its halls are produced the next generations of movie stars, stage actors, and everything else inbetween. Just to get in requires talent that few other people are capable of, and even once inside there is little guarantee that one will ever rise above being an extra. But at the top of the academies hierarchy exists Class I, a special program that only selects handpicked students from the various courses for performances that go beyond any typical means.

Dionysus Academy stands on the edge of two worlds, the world of reality where ones existence is defined by their being, and the world of Delusion. Those who mask themselves in another identity beyond themselves always brush past this realm, but there are those who sink into it and lose all traces of themselves. When this happens they become lost to their roles, losing their humanity and becoming the Delusional. The very presence of a Delusional warps reality into their twisted play, shattering the walls of reality and illusion until chaos is the worlds sole currency.

To combat this threat the mysterious headmaster of the Academy created Class I to harness those who could master a Role while still maintaining their humanity. With a foot in the world of Delusion but still firmly planted in reality they could survive the twists of the world shattering and infiltrated the 'Plays' put on by the Delusional, putting them back in chains to prevent the world becoming infected by a false story.

Class is now in session, put on your masks and prepare for the curtain to rise.

Role

For most actors a Role is just a persona to be taken on and off once they exit the stage, but for those of Class I there is a deeper and more personal meaning then that, their Role lies on the edge of delusion, being as close to them as their own minds but kept separate by their grasp upon reality. When entering the Realm of Delusion this role is what allows them to maintain a sense of self as reality warps around them to become the Stage for the Delusional. Some Roles might be well suited for battle, perfect for defeating foes and taking the fight to the Delusional themselves, while others might be more suited to change the world around them to their advantage, pulling side characters created by the Delusional on their side and forcing the plot into an advantageous position.

For some students their Role might be a famous character from a play, one that resonates with them tot he point of synthases. But many others have crafted their own roles, unique characters whose plot and story exist within the minds of the student, almost like another persona waiting to come out on the stage.

But regardless one must always keep the separation between Role and Self. A firm middle ground must be found to avoid slipping into utter Delusion and becoming that which they fight.

  • Name: Daikon
  • Age: 15
  • Appearance: 4'8" and 80 lbs. That coat has only two pockets, but at least they're bigger than the ones on a hoodie.
  • Backstory:
    • Daikon was supposed to be named something else, but due to a freak accident involving the doctor's grocery list and the naming forms, she got named after a root vegetable. This garnered much ridicule from her older brothers throughout most of her life. Since her parents wanted boys, they let them get away with it and made it clear to her that they favored them over her.
    • She coped by imagining herself as various types of prodigies, outdoing her brothers in every aspect, but eventually came into her own and constructed her "Chef Daikon" fantasy. Now that she's stopped trying to surpass them, her brothers have backed off somewhat. However, she is still considered beneath notice by her family.
    • Somewhere along the line, "Chef Daikon" became Daikon's Role—however uncatchy and hackneyed—and she was sent off to Dionysus Academy, a place where she can hopefully develop her own brand of strength.
  • Personality: Daikon is usually very easygoing and laid-back, but can turn hot-blooded whenever someone makes fun of her name. She is intelligent, but hides it for fear of being made fun of. She is also easily excited when learning something new. She really doesn't like seeing people in pain.
  • Role: Chef Daikon: Order up!
  • Role History: Daikon's dual desire to be noticed and to help others motivated her to construct this Role. Plus, chefs chop up "vegetables," which used to be a common insult directed at her due to her name. Chef Daikon's personality is an exaggerated, cutesier version of Daikon's normal self. She acts hyper-cheery and dramatic, but is still fundamentally the same person underneath. When the situation is sufficiently dire, Chef Daikon will drop most of the drama to focus on the crux of the issue.
  • Role Explanation:
    • Cooking: Daikon's cooking can grant a variety of positive effects to their consumer, including slow regeneration and various buffs. She is very fast when cooking—time is warped and bent so that dishes that take hours to make only need several minutes' worth of attention. This is somewhat of a hassle in combat, as she can't attack and cook at the same time. She can also improvise startlingly effective weapons out of kitchen tools.
      • Ingredient/Kitchen Tool Summoning: Daikon can summon any ingredient to anywhere as long as she knows at least one recipe that uses it. She can do the same with any kitchen tool as long as she has seen it in person and knows how to use it. This is limited by Daikon's willpower, as overuse of this will cause headaches and eventually, fainting. Interestingly enough, the Role recognizes that summoning things inside of people is "cheating," and cannot do so.
      • Preparation Time Needed: It is generally common knowledge that cooking requires time and effort. This still applies to Daikon, even though her cooking abilities are greatly boosted. To prepare her special food, Daikon needs time. Therefore, there's a significant amount of cooldown time if she tries to prepare food in the middle of a fight.
    • A Dash of Steam: Daikon can temporarily turn into steam to dodge incoming attacks, which is a godsend when Daikon can't perform that many acrobatic moves beyond a few basic ones. Her movement speed while she is in her steam form is double her running speed, and she can maintain it for up to 2.5 seconds.
    • Chef's Knife: This is a large chef's knife about as long as Daikon's forearm. Its sides are engraved with images of tangled vines and flowers. It seems not to do that much damage at first (After all, long and "shallow" cuts aren't that much of a concern, right?), but Daikon can make lightning-fast attacks with it, making accumulated damage deadly. If she takes the time to sharpen it, it will temporarily gain extra sharpness on top of its inherently acerbic nature.
    • Chef's Steel: This is a sharpening rod engraved with the same tangled vines and flowers on the Chef's Knife, and it's also as long as Daikon's forearm. It ends in a sharp point, so it can be used as a piercing weapon as opposed to the slashing properties of the Chef's Knife. When Daikon sharpens her Chef's Knife with this rod, blue sparks fly, casting a sinister shadow on her face and temporarily making the Chef's Knife even sharper.
    • Pea-Shooters: These are a pair of antique six-shooters engraved with images of various pea vines. They shoot small, round bullets and they do not need to be reloaded. The advantage of these guns is that they can fire quickly, dealing minor damage that eventually adds up.
    • Armored Apron: This thin, flimsy-looking apron is able to somehow withstand moderate amounts of damage and slowly regenerate afterwards. It's even fireproof and waterproof! Too bad it only covers Daikon's front...
  • Showstopper: Chef Daikon combines and turns her Pea-Shooters into the almighty shoulder-mounted Spud Cannon! It's basically a silvery bazooka that shoots high-speed spuds with alarming alacrity. Its functions are two-fold: any ally that eats a potato shot from this ludicrously large cannon will find themselves significantly stronger and faster for a few minutes, with a side helping of moderate invulnerability. Any enemy hit by these spuds, if they are not sufficiently armored, will promptly be turned into ludicrous gibs. You gotta love those carbs!

Interested, just need to come up with a good enough character.

It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
