"Why do you think? Ortie, I can't keep going on like this. I've tried just ignoring it, ignoring Lucy, but I can't. No matter what I do, they keep going off like a damn fire alarm! Ortrun did not smile but she stared and nodded, and kept her hands up. Technically, she'd asked what not why, but she wasn't about to correct anything. And the 'what' came up. Sort of.
"One doesn't rip out..." She searched for the right word. "Ways of thinking. And I don't think Merlin will quite go for something too aggressive and dangerous, but he can probably help. It may take time. It won't be instant, since this is well therapy." Don't know Merlin's 'wizardry' is supposed to mean, but hopefully it includes therapy skill. Or not being a crank. Thankfully she had started to learn how to read since her bestie started teaching her. She still wasn't that great, but she knew enough to get around the building if she squinted. "Anyway, Imma' gonna go find Merlin. Thanks for everything, bestie! Later!"
And like that, she was off. Of course, if Ortie wanted to follow her, she was more than welcome. But ultimately, it was her choice.

"Ugh," she made a sound. "Will just go to class and check on her after and get her absence excused now..." And I said that to no one.

Ortrun sat a pre-filled pass, technically a request for a pass on the teacher's desk. "Sue urgently needed to see the front office about... her... health." She nodded and kept nodding for several seconds before slinking back to a machine. Look with century eyes... 'Wrong'.
Her instincts were wrong.
She was wrong.
Part of her wanted to just pack it up and go home. Back where everything made sense. Where 'reason' was an unknown concept and instinct was the law of the land. Where things were easy.
But then she'd lose all of that awesome stuff that made her want to come here in the first place. Movies. TV. Videogames. Could she really go home knowing she could have all that and more, only to give it up because the going got tough?
Of course, that wasn't the worst of it. She'd also lose her bestie. Despite just up and calling her that despite having no reason to earn it, she still tried to help her as best she could.
And she'd lose Stevie.
She couldn't lose Stevie. Not ever.
But she also knew that simply ignoring her instincts was a no-go. She tried to do that with Lucy, but all it did was tear her apart. They were too strong to just block out. It was like a radio missing a knob and set to the highest setting.
So there was only one thing to do.
"Ya know, Ortie, back in class, I said somethin' kind of stupid. I asked Lucy if we could, I don't know, find a super-smart dude or magic guy and get rid of that scary part of her. Just go in there and rip the nasty shit out. But I don't think she's the one who needs something torn out."
She then glared at Ortie, but it wasn't out of malice. Instead, it was a mix of fear, of anxiousness, and pure utter determination. She didn't want to do this. At all. But she did want Stevie. And her bestie. And most of all, she wanted to stay. And as far as she knew, this was the only way to do that.
"Ortie? Where do you think I can find Merlin?"
