Yui Kamio Lets Loose

I feel like you're all taking this a bit too literally. Both White and Black are "real" parts of the same person. Remember the title is "Yui Kamio Lets Loose. It's all a metaphor for the parts of yourself you have to repress to fit into society. Sometimes letting it all out can be the healthiest thing for you, even if being that way full time would cause problems.

@Shlugo Nice imagination and its alright. Anyways, yeah... I still think that everytime I See Yui... Her design is screaming to be voiced by Aoi Yūki but I'm cool with interpretations

[up][up]Unless we're going full World of Symbolism it can't only be a metaphor. The zombies in Dawn of the Dead may have been metaphors for mindless consumerism, but they're also literally walking corpses that eat people.

Besides, even looking at it as a metaphor Nao's the one advocating for complete repression in every waking hour. Kiito and the stalker ninjas are the only ones who've been on board with Black coming out ever.

Oh and White describes real Yui as "darkness inside her". Pretty sanctimonious for some fake stealing her life.
Rude. White's a person too; she's got as much right to exist as Black does.

So, I've read chapter 14, and wow, just wow...

So, White remember being Yui and is aware that something twisted her personality and is "holding her back" though she doesn't seem to be aware that it's the chain's doing.

So yeah, White is not in any real sense a separate person, it's just Yui getting her mind and personality twisted by the power the chain and not being able ot break free even when she's aware what's going on. This in short, straight up mind control.

And Yui's hates it, even if she's not aware enough of the situation to properly contextualize it. So yeah, fuck off Nao, this is not White trying to sacrifice herself for Black, this is Yui trying to break herself out of your thrall and go back to being herself.

Also, holy shit, is that the Asshole liar monk from Nurarihyon no Mago?

Chapter 19.

Anyway, if I'm not mistaken, black Yui is one of those mushi things but also considers herself Yui? Or maybe it's the other way around. I don't really get what's going on here.

We live in society and that's why we have to conform it. By using chain Yui can make more friends finish school, get a job and eventually even make own family. Without it she probably ends in prison forever.

It's not wrong consider chain simply magical version of antipsychotics.

Okay, I'm all caught up and... what is even going on?

So Yui's father is some kind of bigwig who wanted a more "presentable" daughter and that's why Yui got sealed. oof.

Also Yui was some kind of "Mushi Hunter" and went around freeing people from Mushi. Well, now I clearly see why she had to be sealed!

...And then the story takes a sudden turn for horror and we spent few chapters with White running around being driven to the edge by a Honoka bent on revenge. And even when she's bleeding out of her eyes everyone dismiss the idea of taking the chain so Yui can deal with the Mushi. Instead Kiito saves the day by... Kitto tying Honoka's hair "and making her beautiful", then telling Yui to just sit put and leave everything to him. And the conclusion is that Kiito used his playboy powers and "overcame another wild girl". Oof

This series sure is... something. Never seen a series quite so lacking in self-awareness and the dissonance is staggering. It seems to think of itself as a lighthearted romcom, but what actually happening on the page is just horrible, and it just glosses over it all.

Even if we just treat it all as some kind of metaphor, it's still not much better. Because the view the series seems to promote is that girls should just be meek and demure, and just leave everything to a big strong man to handle. And that the ones who don't fit that are some aberration that needs to be "tamed". It's a worldview so regressive, the 50's called, saying they want it back!~

I'm going to stick with the series, because it frankly fascinates me how tone deaf the writing is. I want to see what else will come out of it.

Yeeaaah I did not like that conclusion for the exact reasons you said… I thought the inherent creepiness of the situation was something the series was gonna point out and tear down eventually, but now it seems to be endorsing it (although Honoka "turning white" is much more gory than with Yui). What the eff are you doing, author.

This arc starts with Yui confessing that she was a better and stronger person before getting sealed, and how she wish she could go back to her old self. And then it ends with her being told that she should forget all of that and just stay weak and rely on Kiito. It's like it's the opposite day every day in this series.

Both Yuis are disfunctional to degree. Black Yui is unhingely violent (which obviously can't be allowed) and White Yui lack any assertivity and need her friends look for her. Neither is good, but later case can exist as part of society with bit help, which is good reason enough stay that way.

Obviously there will be shift as story progress and neither of Yuis stay way they are. Being weak is not approved or promoted in universe, it's painted as flaw that needs to be adressed and only fool would thing otherwise.

The only part that really bothers me is Honoka sticking around to become a haremette. I'm pretty sure Kiito's stance towards Yui is supposed to be one of those things that gradually changes over time and that he ends up preferring her blah blah blah seen it a million times.

It sort of irritate me it will probably ends with usual fusion heroine. I would prefer white Yui dissapear (tragicaly and stuff) and Black being chosen girl instead.

I hope the series survives at least long enough for the author to develop a conclusion that makes sense.

Chapter 19:

So... Honoka was possessed by Mushi all along and that Mushi is hellbent on revenge because of Black Yui punches Honoka? Okay. And thus they got a happy ending

Quick question. Is the manga ended or getting axed?

Chapter 20:

Hmmmm... So from what I gathered, Black Yui was also formed by an evil mushi but I'm not sure about this. In the meantime, there's also a dangerous violinist who wants to defeat Yui so yea...

So the new villain wants to make Yui "white". I wonder if our "heroes" will see the irony.

Either Nao will gladly help, or she'll realize that she's been a terrible human being.

Oh look. Restraining Black Yui to keep her from acting violently made her react with violence. There is clearly no lesson whatsoever to be learned here.

Chapter 21: Back in Black! It's Best Yui's turn to shine now.

Violin Girl's power is pretty damn terrifying…

Yeah, after all those chapters of White just running around and crying, we finally get to the good stuff!

That girl has some horribly evil powers.

Petition to throw that creep Kiito to the zombies? That would serve him right.

Chapter 22, where Kiito is outstaged by freaking Nao and even his own butler. evil grin

But yeesh, Ayako's power truly is terrifying. My guess is that sax girl will play her instrument during the battle with Yui, which will mitigate the violin's effect.

I haven't even read the chapter yet, but if after all this she ends up becoming a haremette I am going to stop reading immediately. I'm already getting kind of bored with this shounen shift.

Also, Christ, her friend is awful. "Give me back my Yui." To Black Yui's face. The thing about this series is that there's some potentially really good writing here but I'm not sure the author is doing it on purpose and has the balls to follow through on it by having the story call her and the protagonist out. Because someone really needs to slap the two of them.

Oh wait that was last chapter. No wonder it seemed familiar.

Kiito should stay useless. Who gives a shit about him anyway?

[up]Oh yeah, that was awful. What is even wrong with those people.

I'm not enjoying the shift either.
