Birds Of Prey (2020)

The cast of Birds were asked who they want to see onscreen in the future. Smollett-Bell said Oracle, Robbie said Poison Ivy, and Winstead to see more of the Batfamily.

Both Smollett-Bell and Robbie want to see their character's girlfriends!

I just realized that even though Renee Montoya has never been a part of the Birds of Prey, she has teamed up with the Huntress several times.

That is actually so very Harley.

I don't think I'll see the movie. Not because of Harley, but because it feels like this movie is just a harley quinn movie with the Birds of Prey slapped on because why not.

I'll wait for reviews, and even then I might go for a Matinee instead of Full price if that ends up true.

If thats the case, this sounds like a skip for me, since Cassandra Cain is one of my favorite female street levels heroes in DC.

Cass is apparently the movie Macguffin as Black Mask put a hit on her for a mysterious reason & so the main plot is Harley protecting the girl.

5 bucks a major reveal is the arrival of a differently named character who actually has all of Cass’ qualities.

I feel bad for Warner Bros.

They did well with Shazaam and Aquaman, and it feels like Birds of Prey is gonna shatter that good will all over again. They can never catch a break.

I think a worse thing than a crappy portrayal is a portrayal in name only, like poor Cassandra here.

It's been 3000 years…

The most frequent praise I'm seeing for characters besides Harley are Ewan as Black Mask and Winstead as Huntress.

Well at least Black Mask has finally gotten his due especially after how Akham Origins wasted him.

From the sounds of it the Birds appear to have an actually enjoyable presence so that's reassuring, Cass apparently being In-Name Only aside.

All it's gonna shatter is the misogynistic fanboys. The actual reviews say the movie is just incredibly fun.

Personally, again, I don't care if Cass is different. I don't care if any of the characters are different, only if the movie works by itself. Which, apparently, it does.

Then again first reactions like these are always positive.

Though then again these movies also get review-bombed terribly.

So looking up the user consensus is fucking useless.

Gail Simone loved it, so I'm good.

They all support the movie. At least at first, so that’s thoroughly unreliable.

This one’s definitely going to be a skip for me, but I honestly wonder if it would have been had the Harley Quinn cartoon not come on around the relatively same timeframe.

No, Gail Simone has stated that if she didn't like the movie, she would have simply stayed quiet. And believe me, she is not one to talk up things she doesn't like.

Alright that’s some actual validity then.

For me I think it might help if I didn’t always get this feeling of incandescent annoyance whenever I look at Harley.

She’s definitely a character that can be annoying if done wrong or in the wrong dose.

Looking at the Birds hashtag here and pretty much every reaction seems to be elated.

It sounds like they got the villains right, too.
