In a certain book series, a major character lives through the first book, but the second book reveals that he died very shortly after the events of the first book. However, in the film adaptation for the first book (which covers only the first book), the character is killed in a manner different from the books. Would this be Death by Adaptation or Dies Differently in Adaptation?

Oh no how did this get here I am not very good at computer please help

I'd call it Death by Adaptation. If the character didn't die in the first book, but the adaptation kills them off, then it doesn't matter that the character is dead in the second book.

ETA: But since the cause of death is different, I think both Death by Adaptation and Dies Differently in Adaptation are appropriate.
