I don't understand why Cartesian Karma is called what it is. Could someone explain it and/or add an explanation to the trope page?

I believe it's a reference to a philosophical problem posed by the philosopher Descartes, usually referred to as Descartes' demon, Cartesian being a derivative of Descartes. Basically, suppose that your whole world is an illusion created by a malicious demon who aims to deceive you, and you and all your actions don't actually exist. Are you responsible for your own actions? What does ethics mean in this scenario?

Similarly, the trope is about consequences for actions undertaken while under the control (i.e. mind control) of an external power like Descartes's Demon. It's a way for works to explore this philosophical problem.
