Years ago, we as mankind were a silly race… fighting each other in order to gain food, wealth, knowledge, territory, or power. Whatever you thought of, we fought about it. We were foolish. You would assume that for such an advance race we were capable of more…

No.

The truth was that we were nothing more than animals ourselves; animals who refused to go beyond our differences to unite and join one another and create a better world.

In the end, we just destroyed our once beautiful mother Earth. But now, through sweat, blood, and countless lives we have out civilization back... we have everything that we want to protect.

Though, we all remember the year 2287 when our world was nothing more than a nuclear dump with only a few patches of habitable lands left. It wasn't until a man with a mind unlike any other finally united the Earth forces under a single banner by using technology none have ever seen before. Religion, race, sex, political reasoning… all of it was abolished under the rule of one banner, forcibly. Those who refused were executed and kill on the spot.

In the year 2321, the man who united Earth led expeditions from Earth to cultivate new planets with flagships each containing the newest development; the Faces. These were powerful mechanized piloted units that can only be used by a select few individuals after years of training, but they allowed us to conquer planets with ease.

For years we slowly captured planets and things were working, we were finally at peace and enjoying things for we thought we were alone in the universe.

Or so we had thought.

Years had passed and in the year 2578, we finally lost communication with a human colony on our outer rim all of a sudden. At first, we thought it was just an error with the signal… until seconds later another colony tuned in and told us that they were being attacked.

We suddenly found ourselves thrown into a war with an unknown alien race for years, with all of our communications being cut off with all of our outer rim planets.

It was only in the year of 2590, twelve years later, that we finally were able to establish contact with one of our outer rim planets, but what we had found, was something far, far worse than discovering hell itself.

Our people were being butchered by an alien race that we began to call the Krawlers; hideous machines that stopped at nothing to eliminate us...

...Though, that is where you come in.

Truth be told, I don’t envy you guys… for I believe you’ll be thrown straight into the maws of hell while cleaning up our mess.

I just hope you make it out alive from all of this.

Hello, and welcome to Faces, a Mecha RP that I got major inspiration from by a ton of google searches on other Mecha R Ps!

In this RP, we will be piloting Evangelion-like machines called Faces, and fighting against an alien race called the Krawlers; a mysterious mechanoid race that aims to eliminate the human race at all costs. We will be carrying out missions, living life outside the mechs, and doing our best to survive this war.

First of all, let me explain the Evangelion part of the RP; the Synchronization Rate.

The higher one's synchro rate the more in tune one feels with their Face- the more it feels like it's an extension of one's body rather than just a hunk of metal covering you and protecting you as a tool. You will feel as if you and the Face are 'one and the same' rather than you controlling something the higher your Synchro rate is. The initial Synchro rate for everyone will be determined by me via random numbers.

At 95%+ you unlock the special ability of your Face; it's true power.

90-94% and onward is when you can hear noises from the experimental Faces. Almost like you are no longer alone on the battlefield. How you handle this is dependent on your characters.

From 80-89% you would feel that the Face is like your own body and that you can perform things you couldn't before.

65-79% is roughly, give or take, the average synch ratio of most Pilots who have piloted a Framework after many years- those who fall into this ranking are usually those who have survived a few fights against the Krawlers. To start here it does not at all mean you are lacking, but it means you are in fact stronger than the average soldier by a long mile. You are able to pull off well-thought out maneuvers and move in ways that would take soldiers years to pull off.

40-64% is where the Face will start to feel clunky and begin to feel more and more like a burden and a tool as you reach the 40% tile. You will have to pilot your Face more by 'force' rather than as an extension of your body than anything else.

1-40% or the danger zone. At most times this is where your Face will begin to go into a 'lag' state of mind, or will halt it's orders and proceed to do things of its own. Usually this is because the Pilot is in an ill-state of mind or unconscious, but there are unknown reasons that have been yet to discovered for this odd behavior in the experimental Frameworks. Nonetheless, it is highly advised that the pilot is evacuated immediately... before the next state is activated.

-1~100% is the negative synchro rate, something that rarely happens, but can happen. As a pilot's state of mind deteriorates on the battlefield, the experimental Faces will respond to this as a result in order to protect their pilot and enter a state of mind called "CULLING". The Face will enter a Berserk-like state and proceed to destroy and eliminate everything that it deems an immediate threat to the pilot's sanity and safety in order to keep them safe, even if it means killing allies or foes alike. What this means is that the Face itself will take control and proceed to rampage on the battlefield.

Next, here are the character sheets!

  • Dislikes: What do you not like?
  • Background/Bio: Tell me about yourself and how you came to be the person you are now?
  • Notable Deaths: Who among your friends and family have died since the War? Everyone must have at least one Notable Death.
  • Misc: If there is anything else you believe that needs telling, say so here.

Face Sheet

  • Face Code Name: All mechs are given unit numbers based on production code, however the ones we are piloting are given actual names since they are rumored to be sentient beings. What is your Face’s name?
  • Appearance/Armor-Type: Fairly obvious. What does your Face look like? Is it a bulky bruiser or a light-weight?
  • Signature Weapon System: What is your Face’s signature weapon at all times; the stuff it can’t trade away since it is built in. This is essentially your Face's bread and butter at all times. This is something that makes your machine unique from all others. This will be your main fighting style and how you fight in general.
  • Secondary Weapon System: This is the Face’s other weapons; another weapon it can trade away since it isn’t built in. These can be light-weight weapons and other attachments that are instrumental for missions. These can be miniature drones, back up cannons, barriers, or other things.
  • Flight-Capability/Thrusters: Each Face has a means to navigate on the battlefield whether it be through thrusters, an integrated jetpack, or something else. Describe yours! If you want more flight power or speed you will have to sacrifice some offensive power to do so.
  • Special Ability: All Faces have a special ability that they possess that makes them powerful weapons of war. What is your Face’s hidden ability?

Pilot Sheet

  • Name: Liza Baroque
  • Appearance: Amazing how you can look whatever age you want on that Pilot Money. Liza does seriously keep herself looking young through her immense retirement fund and is about 5'8. She wears a lot of plain bulky clothes; she finds mechanics' gear most comfortable nowadays anywah.
  • Sex: F
  • Age: Subjectively 45; born in 2409, objectively 169 years old via lightspeed time dilation.
  • Personality: Liza is all about living life well. She retired for a damn good reason and she thinks she's earned it. As a result she also knows not only how taxing it is to pilot a Face but how important it is to have your head in the game and then take the time to destress.
  • Motive: Liza didn't bust her ass building up all these goddamn colonies for the Krawlers to ruin them. More seriously, all she did, all the people she left behind, it had to have meant something, and she can't just let that go.
  • Likes: Liza likes good alcohol and company. She gets a lot out of just talking to people.
  • Dislikes: Liza hates a lot of these new Faces made for war. Lucky is a tool turned into a weapon, and she hates all these people looking and living like weapons first and tools of peace second.
  • Background/Bio: Liza was among one of the first few waves of space colonization, born onboard one of the huge colony ships from Earth. Excited to reach her new home and a bit of a tomboy at heart, she got really into the Faces they were going to use to build and defend their colonies; in the face of everyone else's quiet discomfort with the machines she grew attached to them, and went straight into the Face piloting program out of college. While she was at heart an engineer and construction worker, Liza also showed surprising aptitude in a fight; she won the Colonial Pro-Am Face Combat Tournament onboard her ship, and earned the right to plant the flag on her home first, the planet Cumes. It sort of awakened a twitchy anxiety in her though. It didn't help that she didn't keep many ties on Cumes save that of her own personal Face, which she'd taken to calling Lucky after its serial number—00007. She only spent a few years on Cumes before she set off again, fired off at lightspeed to brand new foundling planets. She did this dozens of times, and in doing so desynched herself with practically everyone who wasn't doing the same thing. She'd earned an early retirement at 43 in this brave new world of colonization and relativistic travel, but she only got two years of beaches and resorts before reports started coming in about colonies she helped found going dark. She had to so something, and she pulled the tarps and covers off old Lucky still parked in her garage to do it.
  • Notable Deaths: Literally everyone Liza's ever known from before about 5 subjective years ago has died of old age already, but Cumes as a whole was one of the first colonies to fall to the Krawlers.
Face Sheet
  • Face Code Name: Lucky
  • Appearance/Armor-Type: Bulky and shitty and clumsy and old, literally the seventh Face to ever be manufactured. It has big thick limbs and a body to match, with four arms with rounded joints like wheels. The head points up with a central prow and one squinting eye on one side, almost like the front of a boat. Painted a vibrant floral green, but faded to an olive drab, with white detailing lines at the joints. Stands 20 feet tall.
  • Signature Weapon System: The BURNOUT Universal Hazard Insulation is a liquid that runs in fuel lines all across Lucky's surface like veins. Its composition is highly absorbent towards heat, electricity, and radiation, and engines built into Lucky allow it to recycle that energy into its main reactor for a quick boost in power. While the liquid grants passive resistance to these threats, Liza can also reroute the fluid like parrying with a shield in order to concentrate it into a limb and outright negate some energy attacks before rerouting it into a killer haymaker.
  • Secondary Weapon System:
    • Colonial Boltgun: A pneumatically-fired industrial nailgun fed through a tank mounted on Lucky's back. Liza stripped the safety off it decades ago, and with military backing she can now load it with those good uranium-jacketed bolts you kill real kaiju with.
    • Daisycutters: Again refitted from old colonial construction tech, Lucky can fire blasts of shrapnel in all from a waist-mounted ring around its waist. Originally meant for clear-cutting work, the payload has been changed to real vicious milspec shrapnel.
  • Flight-Capability/Thrusters: Lucky has an airjet EVA kit on its back for space or underwater operations but otherwise runs everywhere. When possible Lucky uses high-powered magnets on its feet so that even in zero gee it can get into a good run.
  • Special Ability: A very simple Overclock protocol that isn't open to users without the registered Sync rating lets Lucky's reactor temporarily run hot and unstable to increase speed and power.
