Caught up with this in a couple days. Pretty entertaining, doesn't do anything particularly outstanding but it's competently-made, has likeable characters, good art and excellent monster designs. I feel the main cast is a bit underutilized though, and the flashback arc went on a bit too long.

RIP Mechamaru, dropped way too many death flags.

Chapter 83:

Well, seems that Shibuya is affected by the curse and its up to Itadori and co. to finish the incident that happened once and for all. This doesn't happen for the first time though as Shibuya did get invaded last Christmas.

[up] Me too though, although I'm going to keep my expectations a bit low. The studio might not going to be Kimetsu no Yaiba tier but hopefully it's decent. I'll admit that I'm scared if its Pierrot or Toei

I will keep saying this till my heart stops, STUDIO NAMES DON'T MEAN SHIT BECAUSE ONLY A FEW STUDIOS ARE PRIMARILY MADE OF INHOUSERS, PAY ATTENTION TO THE FREAKING STAFF LIST, NOT THE STUDIO NAME

[up] I see... Sorry for that remark. I'll admit that I might feel that way because I kind of wanting to see the series to be as popular as Kimetsu or Dr. Stone but I don't know if it will happen or not. Making this thread lively doesn't sound like a bad idea tbh. But we'll see once the anime starts to drop.

Having more people gush about the series would be nice. It would also be great if they adapt the prequel story

I agree 100%... So many anime threads that I start, only few of them were popular as hell. sad But hopefully, with the help of the anime, it will raise some awareness

Better hope that this manga gets one of the good studios cause that increases the chance of getting the good animators compared to a more maligned studio that don’t get the good people much.

........ Man I gotta catch up.

Yuuichi Nakamura who also previously voiced Satoru Gojo in the promotional video for the manga, will retain his role in the tv series. Man, am I glad or what. Nakamura was awesome as Gojo in those videos

Read the first two volumes in my library today. The first volume didn't do that much for me but with the second one… admittedly I'm starting to see why it became so successful in Japan.

For one, the artstyle comes off much better on paper than in digital form for some reason. The panel layout is pretty generic overall, but the drawings themselves are clear and dynamic enough to give some thrills during action scenes. And the hero "dying" ten chapters in was a nice turn of events; of course we know he won't actually die but it was still surprising enough to work. And the author manages to explain the power system concisely and effectively while keeping the tedious technical parts to the volume bonuses, unlike *cough* some other series.

But frankly, thinking back on it most of my enjoyment came from two characters: Sukuna and Satoru. The others are fun and have well-defined personalities, but none quite steal every scene they're in like those two. I'm not sure if I like Yûji or not… he wears his heart on his sleeve, yet seems weirdly apathetic a lot of the time, as if all the shit suddenly happening to him didn't faze him at all. Like, some weird guy pops up, tells him he's in possession of a highly dangerous demonic relic that might kill people sooner or later and he just… casually accepts it?

Anyway, it's a pretty good read. A good anime could do wonders to elevate it.

Gojo is like a better written Escanor.

i can definitely relate to your feelings on Yuji. I don't dislike Yuji but even up to date I could never form a strong attachment to him like I did for the prequel's protagonist. Sukuna is also my favourite, I realized I loved him then moment he made that absolute terrible smile when he realized Yuuji wouldn't be able to stop him. An absolute asshole, I stan.

speaking of the anime, I wonder how it'll go about adapting the prologue. The information in it is kind of essential to the main series. Also I really love Yuta, I wish he'd appear again in the manga already

Yeah, Yuji is a bit... there. Gojo steals every scene he's in. I think Sukuna is rather underutilized, his dynamic with Yuji is one of the more interesting things about the latter.

I like how gritty this feels especially the art.

Helps by the genuinely horrifying monster designs.

The art grew on me. It's fairly unique. It showcases the action really well.

I also agree that Sukuna is underutilized.

I’m very looking forward to getting volume 2 cause Sukuna going all out is one of the more favorite moments in the series.

Can’t wait for when the school competition parts come out which contains the introduction of Aoi Todo.
