Humanity did nothing wrong.

It still really bothers me how few dark wizards there are in the world. You'd think every court would have at least one, but they don't.

We haven't seen any other court so its hard to prove that.

We've seen gatherings of rulers with nary a mention of magic or court wizards/mages. Maybe Viren just has abnormal influence in Katolis compared to other mages, but you'd think the rulers would want their mages with them when discussing solutions to a famine, for instance. Or that Kasef would have brought Neolandia's court mage with him if he had one given he knew he was going to be working with another mage. I think the show's distinct lack of mentioning them suggests they don't exist or are extremely rare.

As I recall, most humans do in fact see Dark Magic as unsavory and rare since there isn't a lot of sources of magic outside of Xadia that they can use as spell food in the first place.

[up][up]I don't think Viren's fake Moonshadow elves would have worked I'd the other leaders had their own mages to say 'those aren't elves, they're dark magic constructs.' But perhaps I'm forgetting something?

Think any of this Unicorn lore will make it into the show?

Dark Mages by the time of the series seem to be extraordinarily rare, especially ones as powerful as Viren and Claudia. As powerful and versatile as Dark Magic is, it is flawed in that it requires magical beings as fuel to use in the first place. And the whole point of the Dragon King guarding the border was that it made poaching and kidnapping — and that is what Dark Magic requires — much more difficult.

Its possible someone did but everything was so chaotic after their ruler were killed those starved for vengeance had already taken off to join Kasef.

The entire army under his command could easily be called A Tragedy of Impulsiveness on a massive scale.

[up][up]

As we see with Viren and his master, dark mages tend to get rid of each other, probably because there's a limit to how much magical ingredients can be poached from Xadia and less mages means more for the ones remaining.

They do seem to have a bit of a Sith thing going on. We never really see more than one at a time, with the exception of Viren and Claudia since their a father/daughter duo, like that one Rayla encountered in Scumport.

We only saw it happen once so far and we have no information what exactly happened, so its to early to say for sure it is something common for Dark Mages.

It also should be noted that Dark Mages don’t need to use magical creatures in their spells. We see Claudia using normal deer to heal Soren and Callum use bug for dark magic. Magical creatures are used for really powefull and esoteric ones, bur there is still a lot they can do with normal animals and plants.

Newst clue is a poem/song about an explorer, Esmeralda Skall who made her mark on the world but left behind the man she loved to do it. People have already noticed the Rayllum parallels.
