A number of people who went to the Greenbrier press event and gave the game a thumbs up THEN are taking part in the review bombing now.

Some of those were content creators for Fallout 4, and now all they do is release videos critical of 76. I'm thinking they want to "punish" Bethesda for delivering something that's not Fallout 5 and as a bonus they get to ride the wave of hate views on their videos since Fallout 4 content doesn't draw views like it once did, especially now that a new game has come out.

And other people like Oxhorn who defends 76 and saying it isn't that bad are getting hate for sucking up to Bethesda for money, when that argument makes no sense because clearly the views are at hating on it right now.

Anyone been to Vault-Tec University and read the various logs on the computers there? That is some deeply messed up stuff. Say what you will about Bethesda's handling of the lore, but they definitely add their own unique and interesting bits to it.

Is it me, or is the lighting a little odd? I feel like the colors and such are off.

The latest patch did something I thought was impossible on Bethesda's engine. They decoupled FPS from the physics engine and now you can play without v-sync without the game fucking up. I wonder how they did that without changing engines since other people who use Gamebryo said it was impossible and people used that as the main argument to changes engines.

I mean the patch was 15 GB (55 on console) and it took me about 30 mins just to install it, wouldn't be surprised if they flat out re-installed the entire game.

Well, I guess that shows the people who said it couldn't be done. Never underestimate what programmers can do, I guess.

tbh my biggest concern , speaking as someone who isnt really invested in the game either way, is that the level up perk card pack looks an awful lot like something you could monetize the ever loving fuck out of.

[up]Well they've stated many times before the only things you can spend money on in game is cosmetic only. I'm willing to take them at their word on it.

Really? How do you get weapons and armour, then?

[up] The same as any game where you don't pay real money for weapons and armor?

Well, there are robot vendors you can buy various things from and sell stuff to. It's very handy, actually, because it seems like all the train stations in the area were turned into vendors, and each one comes with some sort of crafting bench and a stash box, which is a godsend when you're overburdened and your camp is half the map away.

"Fallout 76 sales down 82% - Fans Have Spoken!"

76 may mean the number Bethesda predicted their sales to go down but they were a bit wrong there.

Apparently in its UK release sales numbers are down 82%, though this isn't taking into account worldwide sales yet bit still yikes.

Rather glad I never showed much interest in this game, it looks like an unholy mess.

[up]It's not an unholy mess. In-fact it's quickly becoming my favorite Fallout game and with this patch it shows that Bethesda is not going to drop this game and forget it doesn't exist.

[up] I mean you can still love a mess but it doesn’t make it any les of a mess

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure as they say.

Also that patch kinda spells out that the game was released in an incomplete, shoddy state.

Plus no game studio/publisher ever releases a game & then just ups & leave right after. They usually give it a couple months to see if it can be saved/mangle as much money as they can from consumers.

[up]It's just really frustrating to have something you love be trashed on by thousands of people and it's really getting to me. What you just told me doesn't help. It's not a mess to me and I'd really like to keep complaints out of this thread. It's against the rules.

Well, it doesn't happen a lot, but I'm sure it happens. Those don't tend to be very good games in the first place, though. And it was probably a lot more common before patches and DLC were a thing.

I am definitely in the "Like"-camp when it comes to this game, though the enjoyment of it heavily relies on having a teammate to talk with and wether one generally likes the "murder-hobo" part of Bethesda games.

Things I would like to have added in the future:

- A better scrap dump (it just piles up)

- A way to respec your SPECIAL stats

- More challenging Events that encourage forming bigger parties

- adding an option to automatically "Search" containers (did you know you have to press SPACE to trigger these perks?)

I mean. some games arent for everyone. I've been loving the hell out of lets go pikachu and it also gets trashed by certain people, its just the nature of games, like, i dont have any hatred for 76 but as a survival sandbox its never going to appeal to me in a thousand years.

I love Fallout but this installment is not for me. I'm anxiously awaiting a new single player one, though.

I like games like Rust, Conan Exiles, and 7 Days to Die, and honestly the majority of negative reviews seem to be people who insist on going into this game expecting a single player RPG and lambasting it when it isn't.

Does Fallout 76 have some major technical issues? Yes, and reviews should be focusing on that, not on lack of NPCs, which Bethesda emphasized would be a thing multiple times before the game came out, and which isn't even completely true. There are unique, quest-giving robots and even a super mutant vendor I found wandering around. The only difference between them and human NPCs is purely cosmetic. Sure there aren't dialogue trees like you would see in an RPG, but this isn't an RPG, per se. It's an open world survival game with some RPG elements like leveling, quests, and equipment grind.

I think a major part of the hate is Bethesda improperly marketing this game. Heavily emphasize that the genre is more open world survival than RPG, and maybe lower the price of all versions of the game by $20 or so? I think it would have done better. I'm enjoying it as it is now, but I think a wider audience would have been more amenable to the game if they did it like that.

I like Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4, and I like 76 as well. It's just a different experience, which I can appreciate and enjoy.

I don't even know why people call 76 a survival sandbox though. It's just better Fallout 4 with new guns, armor, enemies, and a new map with some light elements like an easy to manage durability and hunger system. Red Dead 2 has those same light elements and I don't see people calling it a survival game. Plus I've played the majority of my time solo and the game is totally balanced for it. I've not run into anything I couldn't handle by myself.

Well in Fallout 4 you had choices that affect the world and the story to some degree or other. You had factions you could join, quests you can progress that change the world and how people see you. Fallout 76 is a multiplayer game, and by necessity that means you can't have players making world-changing decisions. The world remains static and quests you do don't change anything. No choices to be made. Not that that's bad, but it is a core part of what makes a game an RPG.

I also like that they brought back weapon and armor durability from 3 and New Vegas. The fact that you can't repair things except at the proper workbench makes it a little more finicky, but it was something I missed in Fallout 4.
