This is the right place. Welcome.
If you're talking about drawing the line for Tastes Like Diabetes, do you mean for when that becomes a detractment from the work, or for when it qualifies for the trope?
For the former, for me it pretty much has to be on the far side of the pink rainbow of happiness and sunshine, so I'm not particularly sensitive. If it's even moderately realistic or entertaining, I don't mind it even if it is super sweet and cuddly.
For the latter, I'm not sure. I tend to not use these subjective tropes about black and white subjects much. But it would probably be where there's no real drama and everything is just nice and pleasant.

Hello all, I hope this is the right place to post this! I think it is, this is my first post on the forums, though I've been on TV Tropes for a long time. Anyway, I was just wondering what you guys thought about the Tastes Like Diabetes? Of course the trope itself is somewhat subjective, it depends on the person. But where do you, personally, draw the line? I would like to know not only because I am genuinely curious but also I am a writer and would like feedback so as to avoid that trope. So, with that said, how DO you draw the line between a medium falling farther on the Idealistic side of the Sliding Scaleof Idealismvs Cynicism and Tastes Like Diabetes?
