Outside of the Last Station

The deputy stands up, holding a fist sized rock. "No, just going in to have a talk with Mortimer about the importance of of trust and civic responsibility." He walks past you, into the garage.

"... Nothing?" Jeremy asked after a minute or so, and tapped his chin in thought. "No wait, duh" he realized, and reached over to flip the notepad to a blank page, then slid the pen over.

"Here, try writing down everything you can remember about how you got here" Jeremy suggested to Tito.

Outside]

Ah, he was going to hit him with a rock. That was a thing that was probably true. On the one hand it was kind of her fault by not telling him the entirety of the situation. On the other he was possibly just looking for any excuse to hurt the mechanic. But on the other hand maybe he didn't want to hurt Mortimer and instead wanted to bash in what was until a few minutes ago the mechanic's RV's windshield. She opens the door to reenter the garage.

GARAGE

Dungeon Master's Warning: The Last Station and Garage is now considered a YELLOW zone. Failure of a pull may result in permanent character injury or even death at GM discretion.

Sylvia entered the garage. She heard sounds of a rock banging on metal. Peaking around a corner, she sees Mortimer laying on the concrete floor, unconscious and bleeding from a head wound. One hand is outstretched on the ground, with a key-ring laying on the ground next to his hand. The key-ring has a single key and a key-chain with a plastic peace medallion.

The deputy is in the middle of the garage, with his back to Sylvia. He is standing in front of Sylvia's car and is busy using his rock to smash at the engine of Sylvia's sedan.

Sylvia realizes she has a chance to act while the deputy is unaware of her presence.

Some options: Back away quietly (0 pulls), Take the keys to the RV and run (1 pull), Sneak Mortimer out of the garage (5 pulls), Attack the deputy (5 pulls). Using a weapon or creating a diversion can reduce the number of pulls.

All-Night Diner

The waitress brings two french-toast platters and sets them on the table, even though Tito didn't order any food. She then brings a receipt and a cheep bottle of imitation maple syrup and sets them on the table, before silently going back to check on the other customers. The bacon, sausages, and hashbrowns all look a little overcooked, and the french toast is soggy.

Despite not having eaten yet, neither of you find the food super appetizing. However, it is at least filling. The receipt shows a total that is slightly under $20, even including the 'suggested' twenty percent tip.

The waitress is putting a cheese-burger and fries on a table just is a town worker in overalls and a denim shirt comes in. He sits down at the table and tells the waitress "Better not go over to the garage right now, sounds like Sonny is on a rampage." before he takes a bite of the burger.

Day 1, Springfield, diner

Jeremy glanced at the plate of food, raising an eyebrow at the overcooked bacon. "I thought I asked for this to be less cooked" Jeremy muttered, and glanced up slightly at the plate that the waitress had provided for Tito without asking. It didn't seem odd on its own but-

No. No no no, Jeremy wasn't having any of this anymore. He clenched his eyes shut, as his mind had an internal struggle; there was a part of himself that was seemingly trying to reassure him that everything was perfectly normal here, but there was another part of himself that was reminding him that it was not. It was also reminding him that his name wasn't Nick.

... Yeah, he knew this coat would come in handy.

Overhearing the worker, Jeremy looked over at the man, now thinking even more. If someone was on a rampage in the garage, that could damage their vehicle, their chances of getting out of here. "I don't know if you've noticed, but this place isn't exactly normal; and I think that if we want to get out of here, we need to move fast" Jeremy said towards Tito, then stood suddenly and looked over towards the waitress. "Hey, could we get some to go containers!?" he called out.

All Night Diner

Pam rolls her eyes and brings two cheep styrofoam containers and a plastic bag that says 'Thank you for shopping at S-Mart'. She puts two saran wrapped plastic dinner-ware sets into the bag along with a handful of napkins. She holds out her hand. "Pay up, Nick." she says, sounding extremely bored. The man eating soup finishes slurping and puts some money down by his bowl.

"Sure, keep the rest" Jeremy said, not bothering to spend time counting the bills so he just grabbed the lot out of his wallet and passed them to the waitress' hand. With that, he quickly scraped the contents of his breakfast plate into one of the containers, then retrieved the notebook and pen from in front of Tito. "We can finish this later" the amateur photographer stated simply as he pocketed the notebook and pen, then grabbed up his breakfast container and the plastic bag, and hurried for the exit. Next stop, the garage, to see just what the heck was going on now. He was not about to just let some new obstacle keep him from getting out of this town without doing something about it.

Springfield, Day 1

Kayne had just wandered into Springfield having no idea how she got there. One moment, she was on a road surrounded by trees and flowers, the next...well...she wasn't exactly sure where she was.

She'd seen the note tacked to the notice board, and, from her knowledge of books, realized that she was in a horror movie situation.

She brushed off that thought, be rational, Kayne!

Kayne rationalized that there might be other travelers stranded here, and they might be able to work together to get to Sweet Water, wherever that was.

But the first order of business her was to find some useful things. Kayne didn't want to steal, no, that was strictly reserved for emergencies. She decided to look on the ground and into random nooks and crannies to see if she could find anything, anything at all that was useful to her.

Outside the church, Springfield

Kayne had gone back to the church bulletin board, to look over the notices again. Beside the Sweet Water notice, she vaguely remembered a flyer advertising "Dish Washer needed" at the All-Night Diner and "Need convenience store clerk - Will train" at the Last Station. Much to Kayne's surprise the notice about "Meet me in Sweet Water" and the knife that had been pinning it to the board is now missing. A man in a black suit and wearing a wide brimmed black hat is busy pinning a piece of paper on the board so it will cover over the knife hole. The paper is advertising "Next week's sermon: The Patience of Job".

The man somehow seems to hear Kayne, despite Kayne's habitual stealth, and turns. Kayne is surprised to see the man has youthful features despite his pale skin and white hair. His eyes are an unnatural pink. "Ah... another newcomer to Springfield." the man says. "Greetings, sister. I am Reverend White. I like to think that I am here to welcome all new sinners to Springfield. How can I help you settle in here?"

"Good day, Reverend White," Kayne said respectfully. "I'm just passing through here, but I'd like to make myself useful while I'm here. I think I'll take the convienience store job..."

"Thank for offering to help, Reverend," Kayne added.

"Ah, yes." Reverend White nods. "I would advise the diner. I am afraid Brother Mortimer, at the Last Station, is prone to sins of sloth. However, I believe that Brother Sonny is counseling our beloved brother in faith and the Brother Mortimer will soon better understand his role in our small community. Please be assured I will help you fit in as best as the dear Lord allows."

Reverend White goes back to finishing covering up the knife hole.

At the diner

The waitress looks you over. "Hi there. I'm Peggy, what's your name?"

-pause for introductions-

"Well, dish washing isn't exactly a highly demanding occupation. We'll need you to start after the lunch rush and work through evening, so you'll start at one PM, work four hours, then dinner here at the diner and then work from six to ten PM. Monday through Saturday, off one day a week. You're off Tuesdays. Any time you go into the kitchen, make sure you wash your hands FIRST. If you do anything wrong, the cook Jose will yell at you. Just nod and don't worry if Jose gets a little loud, he's like that. It helps if you can understand Spanish, Jose's English isn't very good, but he usually can make himself understood. Pay for kitchen help is minimum wage, but lunches and dinners are provided on days you work, as long as it's under eight dollars. Expect to work late Fridays and Saturdays, but you'll usually get to leave a little early during the middle of the week. Owner doesn't pay overtime, but a job is a job, right? Anyway, it's about noon now, so you can either look around town or order lunch. In either case, be here at one and I'll introduce you to Jose and your first stack of plates to wash."

Jeremy sees the waitress talking to a young girl who doesn't look like one of the regular town folk.

Inside the garage

Sylvia throws the small bottle of shampoo into the far corner of the garage, then ducks back down.

Sonny pauses and turns his head. He looks around and then walks over to the corner to investigate, still clutching the rock. Sylvia dashes into the middle of the garage. Grabbing Mortimer by the overalls, she begins dragging him back to the safety of the corner.

Four passes: Successful

Once back in the corner, Sylvia realizes that Mortimer's keys are still in the center of the garage.

She glances and sees that Sonny is still rummaging in the corner. She runs back. Just as she is reaching for the keys....

   FAIL

Sylvia's hand is grabbed. Turning her head, she sees Sonny holding her arm tightly. "What do you think you're doing?" he demands.

Day 1, Springfield, outside

Jeremy only noticed the girl after he was done gathering his stuff, by which time she was already leaving the diner just ahead of him. He thought about it as he looked at her, only realizing after she picked up the ten dollar bill that she probably wasn't a native. He knew he should try to help her come along to, but what to say? Hey, I don't think this town is normal; you really should get out of here. This guy and I are leaving and you're welcome to come with us. Jeremy rolled his eyes at the thought; sure go ahead and do your best to make it sound like you intend to kidnap her and do unspeakable things to her, right. Though it wasn't like there was much else to say, except...

Jeremy thought of something.

"Hey, you're not from around here, right?" Jeremy asked, not approaching yet since he didn't want to appear threatening. "Maybe you've noticed, but this town isn't exactly normal; I think it's best we get out of here" he offered, waiting a moment before going for his 'proof'.

"I know how suspicious that sounds, but just think about one thing: Right now you're probably thinking that my name is Nick, right? Even though we've never met?" Jeremy asked somewhat rhetorically. Either way, he needed to hurry up and get to the garage after this.

"I know this town isn't quite right. That's why I'm trying to fit in for the moment until I can earn enough money to get out of here. And I'm also trying to figure out why this stretch of road seems like something out of a history book."

"Let's work together! I'll help fix whatever vehicle you want as long as you take me along."

She tilted her head.

"Why would I think your name's Nick?"

It was serious bad luck that she apparently arrived in town when one of the corrupt police had had enough of what the mechanic was up to. Whether it was him breaking from the guilt or if this was just a very aggressive man that could just do these things because of how isolated this town was she wasn't sure. Also there wasn't really enough time between him entering with that rock and her entrance for the mechanic to tell him about the trade, so that was something to take note of.

"Umm I was picking up the key I neglected to give back to the Inn keeper. I was in such a rush you know. Huh funny prank you did there, wrecking my car like that. You guys in this town are so funny." Nervous laughter. "Is there a camera over there? hellooo camera." Waves in direction of fictional camera

Deputy Sonny Justice lets go of Silvia's wrist and turns to peer suspiciously at the corner she's pointing at. The corner is dimly lit, with a stack of tires and something glinting at the top of the stack. With a grunt of annoyance, Sonny moves over and starts trying to push the stack of the tires to side to see what the metal is, to see if it's a security camera.

Clutching the keys to the RV, Sylvia runs for the exit. Bursting around the corner, she finds an two teenagers, one an Asian girl and the other a Caucasian male who looks like a 'Nick' for some reason. The two teenagers are inspecting Mortimer.
