Found out about this RP a few days ago and I've been binge-reading up until the end, and it seems like sign-ups are basically open indefinitely, so I thought I might try and come up with something.

  • Name: Tom Beasley
    • Do you like your name? "I think 'Tom' might be the most neutral possible name. And that's fine by me."
  • Age: 16
    • What do you want to be when you grow up? "...that's a tough question actually. Uh...writer, I guess? Book or movie or show, I don't care."
  • Appearance: 6'4 (tall enough that most people just know him as "the tall kid"), white, incredibly messy medium-length brown hair. Every day he wears the same blue sweatshirt and cargo shorts; not different but identical articles of clothing like Jacob, he literally just takes them off every night and puts them back on every morning.
    • Do you have a crush or are you not even thinking about these things yet? "I'm not really thinking about starting a relationship, but I did kind of like this girl Amy. Haven't seen her in a while..."
  • Personality: Tom doesn't have much of a filter. He can avoid directly insulting people, and he can keep a secret if need be, but other than that, anything he thinks comes out; luckily this consists mostly of wisecracks and puns. He's generally laid back, but if he gets into an argument he won't stop until he wins.
    • It's Saturday night and your parents are out of town. What do you do? "Same thing I always do: some permutation of wandering around a set list of 3 or 4 websites trying to entertain myself, relistening to podcast episodes I've listened to 30 times already, and wandering into the kitchen to get snacks."
  • Backstory: Tom was born in Oldport to a small middle-class family, and he rarely if ever left the town. In school he was in an awkward middle ground between being a popular kid and being a self-ostracized loner: basically everyone knew him, and most people thought he was cool, but only a handful of people knew him any better than "that tall funny kid", and he had always thought the small group of people that thought he was annoyingnote  was bigger than it actually was. Due to a combination of a "not dealing with this shit" attitude towards the unexplainable and the immense luck of living directly across the street from Rogers High (allowing him to easily bail from any weird event), he managed to avoid being involved in anything power-related for several weeks after being smoke-snake-stabbed.
    • What do your parents do for a living? Do you live with both of them? "Yeah, I live with both of them. My mom works at the library, my dad's a stay-at-home dad who cooks and cleans and all that."
  • Powers: I want Tom's power to come as a surprise to the participants, so I'll spoiler-tag it: If he makes eye contact with another empowered person for around 5 seconds, he copies their power, with all its nuances and downsides. (Copying a new one overwrites the old one, in case that wasn't clear.) The longer he sticks with a power, the more his personality shifts to become like the power's owner, and if he keeps one for long enough he loses his sense of self and just becomes the other person.
    • What kind of music do you listen to? "I don't listen to music, I listen to podcasts. And not like 'listen to us talk' podcasts. I mean story-based podcasts like The Magnus Archives or Welcome to Night Vale."

Let me know if there's anything I need to flesh out more. (Also please spoiler-tag any questions about the power)

Oh, that's interesting. How long does he keep the copied powers for? What happens if he, say, copies Ed's Tulpa ability, creates some Tulpas and copies another power? What happens if he does something to his body with a power then copies another? Is it an undo situation or are there lasting consequences?

He keeps them until he copies another one. The tulpas would disappear, and any shapeshifting would be undone (except Irene's biomanipulation, as that's actually manipulating the flesh instead of shapeshifting).

May I make a suggestion of a side effect to his powers? The more he sticks with a copied power, the more he copies that person's personality as well, with the danger being that if he stays with a power for too long, he'll lose a sense of who he really is and become the person he copied.

That's a great idea! Should I edit the original post?

  • Name: Kyle Marcel Sinclair
    • Do you like your name?: It's my name. What matters is that it links me to those that matter to me and that's enough
  • Age: 16
    • What do you wanna be when you grow up?: Formerly, going into pro soccer, maybe getting to Europe if I could. Since that leaves me with some moral questions now, maybe starting a band or becoming a chef...Need to plan my life
  • Appearance: Behind your blue eyes, who are you? Beyond that... just wait a minute. His serious expression rarely leaves and can be rather aggressive looking at times.
    • Do you have a crush or are you not even thinking about these things yet?: Not looking for anything, but who knows if it could find me instead
  • Personality: Normally, he projects himself as serious and not very friendly. Even when with people he likes, he tends to stand back and is pretty low key about most things. Even so, he is a relatively kind guy and has some sense of humor, which can pop out at unexpected times. Loyal, if kind of insensitive at times, he has a hard time dealing with people as it is. Intermittently impulsive and thoughtful, he is hard to pin down sometimes. Currently, having fears of the future.
    • It's Saturday night and your parents are out of town. What do you do?: What one does, work out and blasting music, or hit the drums
  • Backstory: Son of Harrison and Iris Sinclair, Kyle considered himself rather normal, even if he didn't seem to fit with many people. Finding some companionship in sport and whatever caught his interest at the time. Getting real friends has been a challenge all his life, but he has managed. The Event and all the chaos have left a fair amount of doubt in him, and growing uncertainty.
    • What do your parents do for a living? Do you live with both of them?: Dad is a psychologist. Hiding stuff from him is a pain. Mom is a chef, no complaints there. I live with them
  • Powers: Wolfsbane: Kyle can turn his body, either fully or partially, into that of a wolfman, becoming stronger, tougher and faster. His body generally gets buffer and his limbs get longer. His senses of hearing and smell become far sharper. But it can be a bit harder to keep himself in control. Injuries make turning really painful, even if the shifting of flesh can make things Ok again.
  • Dark Spark: There is a strange, sparking force surrounding Kyle's wolf form. Manifesting as black sparks, that can act as a concussive force. He can use it to repel things or add some strength to himself. But his control over it isn't that good and can flare up randomly. And it has recoil.
    • What kind of music do you listen to?: There is some metal in the air, but some softer stuff too, although if you reveal my interest for love songs in Spanish, I'll knock it off your head
—- This might be a bad idea, and I might need a lot of help, but...

Not a bad idea at all!

I think it's a good sheet, and I'm ready to accept you. Just want to figure out some confusion with the surnames: is it Sinclair or Lupin?

Sinclair. I was indecisive about the last name, so it got changed near the end, but forgot to correct the whole thing.

Name: Lenold Croffedman - Do you like your name? I've always felt like my name was supposed to be something else and got mangled on the paperwork, so no.

Age: 15 - What do you want to be when you grow up? A door-to-door salesman, like my pa.

Appearence: 5 feet, 8 inches tall, pretty average. Nonthreatening, oddly small face, with greyish-greenish-brown muddy eyes and a kind of crooked stature, like his spine is curving slightly to the right. Combined with nervous, fidgety, and long limbs, and a passion for amateur salesmanship, he's been unfavorably and sometimes platfully compared to the inflatable tube Men you see outside car dealerships. - Do you have a crush or are you even thinking about that sort of thing yet? Since I'm new in town, I haven't gotten a crush on anyone yet, but I've got some sales pitches for myself lined up.

Personality: Has a possibly undiagnosed duality to his behavior— he's a bit shy and gawky in social situations, often staying away from the spotlight and taking notes. But, when he gets into the Entrepreneur Mindset he becomes much more outgoing and showy, and can get very pushy about what product he's peddling, be it half a sandwhich, a friendship, a used deck of cards, or even himself. - It's Saturday night and your parent is out of town. What do you do? Go to another person's party and make inroads with potential customers— I mean friends.

Backstory: I was born in a small town in Ohio no-one's heard of, and have lived, rarely more than a year, in different towns all across the States since I was a toddler. We're always moving on. My dad is stuck in the past sometimes, it feels like— any technology made after 1990 or so seems to disagree with him, and him with it, even though he's only forty-some years old. That family Curse of Technological Issues, if not the mutual lack of affection for tech, has been passed on to Lenold. He keeps a flip phone in his pocket, and his difficulties with the internet cause him to not be able to easily keep up with any friend he does make.

- What do your parents do? Do you like with them? My dad's job- "Roadwise Self-Employed Business-Focused Free Spirit", as he describes himself- which amounts to traveling around and hawking half-baked inventions door to door and roadside diner to roadside diner, keeps us always moving, for tax purposes if nothing else. We settled down in Oldport as a combination of midlife crisis on the part of Lenold's dad and guilt over Lenold not having a childhood.

Powers: Entrepreneur Mindset = Lenold channels the spirit of his family's long line of fast talking salesmen with lots of gestures and meaningless facts about products of dubious use. While in the Mindset, Lenold gains the following superhuman abilities:

  • Inhumanly Intense Persona: Exudes an overbearing, slightly greasy force of personality. Weak-willed people tend to cave in to his sales pitches a lot quicker than they would normally, and he can turn up the intensity consciously to psychically pressure people, with the same intensity of a small crowd of onlooking people peer pressuring.
  • 100 Years of Experience: Possesses an innate and unconscious knowledge of many different (mostly old-fashioned) sales tactics and applicable trivia
  • Props: Can spontaneously create small props no larger than about three square feet to help with his presentation, which immediately disintegrate into noxious cigar ash and glitter that gets everywhere as soon as they leave his line of sight for more than five seconds. He can teleport his props short distances.
  • Heightened Pain Tolerance/ Moderately Heightened Healing Speed: A mixture of power and drawback. While "on the clock", Lenold has a much higher pain tolerance, and a mediocrily increased healing factor and toughness that does not keep up in the long term.
  • Mint Condition: Every 60 seconds, the condition of the product Lenold is trying to sell returns to the same condition it was in when he started selling it. This subpower only works on physical products, not abstract ones.

Negative Side Effects May Include!

  • Techbane Technology created from 1990 and onward starts experiencing minor but persistent malfunctions that increase in scope and frequency the longer Lenold hangs around. His Entrepreneur Mindset amplifies this drawback, excluding his product
  • Designated Product To activate his E.M., Lenold must be selling some kind of product, be it abstract or more practical. He can only sustain his power as long as he's selling a product, and he can only sell one product at a time. If his product is a piece of more modern tech, it's excluded from his Techbane field.
  • Time Limit: He can't sustain his power for more than 8 hours a day (they need not be consecutive), after which his power is "off the clock".
- What kind of music do I listen to?: Seminars and podcasts about economics

In The Shadow of his Legacy : Lenold's power is all about legacy and inheritance, which can make Lenold harbor doubts about his own identity and self worth.

Note: Whether you believe it or not, I improvised a lot of this at 1 in the morning. I know the list of minor powers is a little extensive, but my idea is he would discover and stumble into the limits and extent of his power as time goes on. I also gave a lot of very semantic and vague wording to the powers, like what a "product" can be, in order to feel out what makes sense in-story.

Hi there! While your interest is appreciated, this roleplay came to an end at the start of this year.

Since you seem to be new, a quick tip- go over to the actual RP forum and check out which roleplays seem to still be active- you're looking maybe for anything that's been posted in the past month. Then you can come back here and check if the active RP's are accepting sign-ups. grin
