Off the top of my head, Cordelia is always a good candidate. If you're willing to do horses, there's Eliwood for "almost Brave Roy" status (Dew expenditure required, though). Oh, and I guess there's also Roderick.

With Cordelia I almost feel like you might as well use LAD anyway since her bulk is poor regardless. Though Cordelia is an excellent user of most of the lances in the game... I might look into building her.
Though I guess another problem is that I'm not particularly interested in Roderick or Eliwood, and Cordelia is one of my least favorite characters from Awakening.
What I really need is more units I like in the game (and/or I need to play more FE games...)

Hmmm, going through my roster real quick: Shanna or Est. Maybe Raven, if you can bear losing out on 1 Atk and Spd to now be -10 Def/Res overall. A +Spd Catria miiiight work, but not really sure. Shigure is also probably an option, though he'd be harder to merge. Oh, and there's also F!Corrin if you want to do the trollsweep build (that's more of a dirty defense team shenanigans thing, though). Soleil is an option, though also harder to merge, like Shigure.

What's F Corrin's trollsweep build? I'm curious. (though since I'm currently in the middle of a Nowi merge project it might be kinda redundant...)
Soliel seems like a good idea, though I just finished Fir as a sword infantry and doubling up before merging other colors/weapontypes/movementtypes seems like a poor idea.
If I use Raven I'll want to use double LAD for the memes.

I feel like one of the defensive breaths might be better on her depending on her bulk.
