Definitely way too specific to not be that. Wonder how long it's going to take them to actually implement it, though, since a number of other things, like that special TM, were seen, but never heard from again.

Also, I seem to recall that DeepSeaTooth and/or DeepSeaScale were once upon a time found in the code, but neither has appeared in the game despite the release of Clamperl. I sometimes think they add stuff just to throw data miners off.

They scrapped specific items, and introduced a hard to find item that also requires 100 candy.

It has been 7 months, and we still have yet to get the full Gen IV dex. And no special research in that time either.

[up][up] Entirely possible. That's the strategy I'd probably take, since it's pretty much impossible to stop data mining for any meaningful period of time. Introducing misinformation is about the only effect way to fight back, though one does need to be careful of hype backlash with regards to the dummy assets.

[up] I'd be more surprised if they didn't do something like that, since this game is very heavy on the grinding.

As a side note, I am annoyed to report that Detective Pikachu does have a chance to run from you after you encounter it.

Not surprising at all, considering Smeargle and Ash Hat Pikachu could also do so.

Some new stuff from Chrales.

Koala might be Sword and Shield's codename, like Beluga was for Let's Go, hinting at Gen 8 connectivity.More support for those evolution-lures. And a naming trick for Tyrogue? Also a sleeping Snorlax on the map sounds like fun.

I noticed that a lot of people have been reporting all manner of bizarre and seemingly random bugs in the game after the Detective Pikachu event started. I haven't gotten any of the worst of the reported bugs yet (so far I've only gotten one where the camera went absolutely nuts when I was in a Gym). Have any of you guys seen any of them?

Almost nothing out of the ordinary for me. That is, just the usual raid eggs that don't animate or hatch properly unless I click them, or gyms that appear to be one colour, but are actually the other, until I force restart Go.

The one single exception is getting a photo bomb by Pikachu and then not having it spawn. Apparently I was supposed to restart Go to fix it, but I just went to bed instead.

There's only one weird bug that I've seen so far - when a Jigglypuff does its jump animation, it sometimes stays stationary at the apex of its jump while doing the animation for coming to the ground, ending with it hovering in air. When it does this, it somehow has no hitbox for catch purposes at all. It doesn't reset until it does the jump animation again, in which it remains stationary at said apex but does its usual float down animation as normal (and is able to be caught again when it lands). It's relatively minor, in that it's still catchable (even if you have to wait), but it's not surprising to me that there are other bugs.

While I haven't seen Detective Pikachu not spawn after a photobomb, I have noticed that it spawns slower than Smeargle does when it comes up.

That kinda sounds like the general flying Pokémon bug where if it's the kind that moves up and down, it sometimes just straight-up loses the hit box until it's at the top of the screen again. Leads to some dumb frustrating stuff with raids.

Got some second-hand accounts of a bug caused by Lucky Pokémon in the latest update (haven't run into it myself yet, since I don't trade a ton, but I'm meeting up with a Lucky Friend tomorrow, so I'm almost guaranteed to get hit by it soon). Apparently something got screwed up in the dust reduction coefficient or something because instead of cutting it in half, it multiplies the cost well into the millions. The screen shots I saw are 12.5 million dust to power up a Raichu who is at a level where it only needs 4 candy; and 6.25 million to power up a Nidoking that I can't recall the candy cost of.

[up][up] What I heard is that if you actually try to power it up, it will only cost you the correct amount of dust, but you can't even try unless you have the millions of dust in your inventory.

Edit: But to be safe, I'd probably wait until it's fixed, in case that needs said.

That's funny and sounds like a typical Niantic mistake. I don't think I even know anyone with 12.5 million dust. And I know some people who hardcore horde the dust (I think several of them have 6-8 million at the moment).

Update!

  • A new wave of Gen 4 'mon, including Cherubi, Shellos, Burmy and Gible!
  • Earth Power is on some 'mon! (it seems to be a PvP-focused move more than PvE)
  • New items in the store: Glacial Lure, Mossy Lure and Magnetic Lure, which attract certain kinds of Pokemon and also allow certain Pokemon to evolve when you spin the disc! They're a bit pricey at 200 coins each, but anyone can use them once they're up. My community are starting to organize around those of us with the coins to spend.

So are Shellos divided by region (like Zangoose/Seviper for example)? I did seem to only see the West Sea variant in my neck of the woods today.

There was a brief blip at the start where they were both available everywhere, but now they seem to be split right down the Prime Meridian instead of the usual "by continent" dealie.

Lucky me. I live in the UK, and the Meridian is measured from the Greenwich Observatory in London. My town only sees East Sea, but I can get the West Sea variant from an hour's train journey.

Appropriately enough, it does seem that the western hemisphere gets West Sea Shellos, based on everyone I've talked to. Can't argue with that logic.

I'm finding it odd/funny that I've run into several Cherrim already, but I haven't seen a single Cherubi yet. Also, not surprisingly, I think Sunshine Forme Cherrim can only be caught when the weather is sunny (which it was for about all of 10 minutes this past weekend, so I only have Overcast Forme; Sunshine Forme did pop up on my radar, though).

I'm not sure quite what rules are in place for Burmy so far, but it's worth noting I was visiting a rural area when I saw leaf coat Burmy, and I was in downtown Boston when I caught my trash coat Burmy.

Also, while a bit late to note, it does appear that the new modules work on the same rules as the original lure module... including getting a duration extension on Community Day. I gambled that someone would burn at least one of each during CD yesterday, and I was rewarded.

The problem is that the new lures don't spawn the CD Pokemon, they have their own spawn lists. So it's better to use normal lures during CD, or save the special lures until 5:59 so that you can use them for three hours after CD.

Cherrim is on the spawn list for the Mossy Lure, so that's one way to get one. Shieldon is on the list for Magnetic Lure, for anyone who needs a Bastiodon for PvP.

Burmy seems to be based on biome, but OSM isn't perfect. Trash Cloak seems to spawn in urban areas, Forest in parks rural areas and Sandy on beaches, but not all such places are tagged properly on OSM. The only Burmy I found was on the beach, so that singular data point I've experienced matches the hypothesis.

There seemed to be an unspoken agreement that use of the elemental lures was relatively restricted - just slightly off the main path, all three were used next to each other, but the bulk of the lures used were the standard ones. Everyone just took the chance to do the brief detour needed to get their four lure-based evolutions and basically left it at that.

Also, the four lure-based evolutions are pretty much what we expected. Magnezone is a sweet Electric attacker (slightly disappointed that lacks a usable Steel set, but between Aggron and Metagross, I really don't need one, and I suspect few others do), Leafeon and Glaceon are decent specialists against types with decent meta prominence (Water and Dragon, respectively), and Probopass... is a 'dex entry (okay, sure, it's a decent PvP choice if you like Great League and don't have Bastiodon, but that's pretty niche).

If Cherubi is on the Mossy Lure spawn list, I may have to invest in one for next CD, since I'm still not seeing any locally. I'm somewhat curious as to why its evolution is more common than it. Also, in terms of just lousy luck, while I've been seeing quite a few Hippopotas spawns, they invariably spawn out of my way while I'm on a commute. I figure that luck has to turn around sooner or later.

It somewhat irks me that we keep getting this nonsense where Niantic screws up with releasing what were supposed to be limited release mons, and then realizes their mistake and closes the loophole, leaving us with this thing where the people who just happened to be playing at the beginning of any event or release manage to easily get mons that other players have to actually content themselves with not having.

Why did they tie Cherrim with weather than time of day like Eevee?

Also I keep seeing leaf Burmy, no others.

Because Eevee is tied to time of the day and Cherrim is tied with weather in everything else in the franchise.

I mean, in most cases, tying Cherrim to the weather makes perfect sense. Many places do have a sufficient ratio of times where the weather is sunny/clear versus not, to give ample opportunity at both versions. Some of us, like myself, though... not so lucky (that said, I got Sunshine Forme this morning on my commute... I enjoy that it's way more bouncy than Overcast Forme).

For June's Community Day... well, I was kinda hoping Ralts would come first, but Slakoth was a pretty obvious choice as well (powerful final evolution, fairly uncommon, regularly sought), so I'm not terribly surprised that's our next one. I'm curious as to what charged move it's going to have - Body Slam could be interesting.
