The second question is: if Rama, is this the slightest bit useful against anything except Ibaraki?

EDIT: Summer Senpai, Vritra, Summer Melt, and the T-Rex. Yeah, that's not much more either, unless you're fielding him with neutral damage.

NP gauge drain feels weird on someone that cant exactly spam their NP.

Correction on one thing on the datamine: Turns out "NP animation modified" doesn't necessarily mean NP animation update. It can also mean one new fraction of a second was added to fit in another buff. Meaning Rama's and Yan Qing's buffs are NP buffs and the rest should be Skill buffs.

I can't think of something less useful than an NP drain buff on someone that doesn't spam their NP, which is restricted to a particular subset of enemies, and doesn't even have class advantage against most of them. I think the only thing under demonic aside from those Servants that would normally be a Lancer or Berserker are the hydras; I think both versions Beast III and Treasured Beast demand other things.

Well, Vlad's NP originally had a lower than average damage modifier.

The first NP upgrade was to just put him on par with everyone else.

Early game design?

I never heard about NP draining needing to be connected to a NP spammer since its used so an enemy doesn't fire its NP sooner.

It's better the more often you can use it because that extends the time more. Rama has two arts cards, no NP gain, and only two hits on those arts cards; you can't really find a single worse person to give a niche NP drain to.

Compare this to Archuria, who can loop her NP every damn turn whilst buffs are up because of the way it works, and it drains everyone, or Sitonai, who can similarly loop and has an NP charge and gets to use it on dragon enemies.

You also want it on an NP you can loop or charge up again somehow so that you aren't sitting on the NP to reserve its NP drain for a more suitable time and can just fire it whenever you need the damage. If you need to hold onto it then it's better as a skill.

Those "kill x Servants with a specific trait" are the worst, since there's no way to speed them up. You just need to drop 400 AP to progress.

Remember, they nerfed Emiya's NP from Art to Buster so that he doesn't spam NP. They gave it back to him in a later upgrade.

All there is to it is being patient.

The event was made to make it through the whole thing on natural AP after all, if one only does this event and not dailies as well...

Having to do the same dull node with a scattered handful of enemies with awful drops is the worst part of mission events. I think last summer on JP was pretty good, though, you only had to run the bad node a handful of times.

I just take the opportunity to watch and take in the full extent of the battle sprite animations when doing these nodes, in slow, in case of a Brave-Chain.

It is pretty nice, every once in a while.

Like Izo's very straightforward and brutal sword-style, for example.

Defeated Gawain. I tried several times to do it without using CS since I could get fairly close to beating him, but eventually got fed up and used it to fire Euryale's NP once Gawain had low enough health to one shot.
