1531 hours. The cool breeze brushed over the massive landscape. The temperature felt nice, the sun spread warmth over the land and the air was clean. To the north were the mountains, and even though they were quite a distance away, they were still quite large and their massive snowy forms complimented the large blue skies, skies frosted with the thin whispy clouds. Smaller and more vegetated hills lie to both the east and west, with massive woodlands that cover most of the surrounding area. To the south was a whole lot of meadows, hills and plains, as well as a massive lake in which a river watershed dumped into. The large walled city-state known only as Unita lies up north snug in between the mountains and hills, though the walls and towers were quite large as well, making the mountains look a little smaller by comparison. The Unitian Dam was not too far south of Unita, though it was outside the walls, operating on the massive river that flowed south to the lake. It was still quite a distance away, and even though it was visible, it was still a drive away anyways.

There wasn't much wildlife in this part of Eden. To many, this was known as "Southern Eden", due to it's soutern nature to Unita, which is what most people use as a point of origin in the infinite expanse of land that surrounded them. Unitian UA Vs and fighter jets can only go so far, know one knows how far the world goes and how much there is, as any rocket attempt in this world always ends up in failure. Beyond the horizon is a mystery to even the longest-lived denizens of this wacky world. In this area, it was just your standard North American birds, bees and bears... with the occasional groundhog and deer every now and then. It was relatively sparse though, due to this part being nothing but a large empty and hilly plain surrounded by forests and mountains.

In recent events, some of the surrounding denizens have told rumors of Unita being under civil unrest and that there is a relatively mild ongoing civil conflict going on within the walls of Unita. No one really remembers the details, but from what they know it all started due to the mass impeachment and firing of good and hard-working government workers, and the abuse of power that the current "president" and his followers push onto the people. Even though there are tons of smaller factions involved, no one outside of the walls of Unita knows who's fighting who or who's the good guys or bad guys. Right now, everyone has to hope for the best.

Nothing really happened. The roars of fighter jets and helicopters can be heard in the distance, though a trained eye can pick out the sources of those sounds heading towards Unita. After a few minutes, though, from the woods to the west, a red flare shot up into the sky from the ground, releasing some red smoke into the air before slowly falling back down to the ground.

Those who followed the flare would be led through the woods, through lots of deciduous bushes and trees, into a clearing that had a few tree stumps. Near the center of the clearing was a poorly disguised wooden hatch, only covered by branches, fallen leaves and twigs. The hatch had a handle, and apparently led below ground. If one attempted to open it, however, it was locked.

(( First ever play-by-post post! :D Again, all OOC discussion goes into the discussion thread, though minor post-related comments could be put in brackets like this. Have fun! ^_^ I also made a map of the post if you wanted to see it. ))

(( Let's do this shit ))

Alan has been wandering so, so long. How long has it been now? 2 weeks? A month? He's lost track of time. He probably would have been okay with it if he was better with this whole survival thing. The entire time he's been in Eden, he's killed a deer. That's it. And that deer is long gone, so he's gonna have to hunt again. Alan looks around, hungry, when he notices a red flare. Running over, he finds himself in a forest with some stumps. Great! He's gotta be close to civilization if stumps are around! Running around, he finds a bear. Deciding it wouldn't be wise to take on a freaking bear with a dagger, Alan slowly backs away, hoping the bear won't see him.

(( How's that? ))

((Here goes.)) A door appears, with a little number seven carved on it, just above the handle. Just as quick, it vanished, after someone stepped out. A tall, lanky, redheaded man stepped out, his neck hidden by a scarf, a shovel in one hand. He surveyed the current issue, a man, slowly backing away from a bear. "Need a hand?"

Alan quickly shushes the man. "Sir." He says as quietly as possible, "I don't think you noticed, but there's a giant bear right there." The bear turns to them. It's staring directly at them.

In the treetops near the clearing, Terry peered down at the scene below. He had chased after the flare hoping to find someone (or something) who could point him towards Unita, but had stumbled across a man staring down a bear.

...Maybe I should wait. He thought to himself. They seem to be in the middle of something.

Now that he thinks about it, this probably would be a merrier occasion for Alan if he wasn't about to suffer a very furry death. "Can you... help me? Please? Sorry for sounding rude before. I was a bit stressed." His tiny dagger won't do anything against the large beast. Speaking of which, the bear is getting closer, and it doesn't look like it wants a hug.

"Well, that is a bear. I've only got seven bullets, and shovels aren't really the best at dealing with bears. Sorry. I say we run."

"Good idea!" But before Alan can run, the bear lunges at him, pinning him to the ground.

"AHH, GOD! HELP! SINCE WHEN DID BEARS LUNGE AT THEIR PREY?!"

"Man, that bear doesn't look friendly at all..." Terry mumbled to himself, before he suddenly realized something very important

Wait! If they die, I won't get directions to Unita!

Terry concentrated, and the bear's shadow rippled as a thick tendril of darkness wrapped around its hind legs, doing its best to pull it back. Meanwhile, the Edenite was moving towards the two men, his approach heralded by the rustling of tree branches

Alan gets up and catches his breath. He received a few scratches but is overall largely unharmed. He then notices the bear being pulled back.

"What is happening?!"

The tendrils continued to hold the the bear at bay as Terry scaled down the tree. "Er...Hi?" He greeted the two strangers. "My name's Terry. Who's this...Fritz you mention?"

"Who cares? I think the better question to ask is what you just did to that bear's shadow." Alan feels like he's forgetting something. "OH! I'm Alan Philip. Thanks for, uh... saving me."

"He is a very good friend of mine. Anyaways, since you so nicely asked my name, I'm Stephen Matterson." The man removes his scarf, balling it up and jamming it into a satchel.

"Well then, Stephen and Terry, why are you two out in the wilderness like this?" Alan asks. Obviously they can't be in the same situation as him, so why are they here?

"Oh, that? I can control shadows...travel through it, create simple things like tendrils, that kind of stuff." Terry gave a sheepish laugh. "Shame the constructs dissolve whenever they go too far from me."

"Why am I here? It's a really long story that ended with me being a long way from home..." He said, before looking at the bear. "...You know, I don't feel very safe staying this close to a pissed bear all day. Shouldn't we run? Hide?...Give it some warm porridge?"

"Really? My story involves me getting very far from home as well! Except it's a short one." Alan then ponders what to do with the bear. "My food supply is getting pretty low, actually. Any chance you can hold it down while I kill it?"

"Uh, sure." Terry sounded a little nervous about that. He had killed fish and small game over the last few days, but hunting an animal larger and stronger than himself was...new. Another tendril rose from the shadow of a nearby tree and wrapped itself around the bear's forepaws, hoisting the bear a foot off the ground.

"Huh? Uh, sure. It's been a while since I had something more filling than a sandwich. I'll also take some of the bears blood, for, ah, alchemical purposes." He rummages around, opening he coat for a brief second, revealing a shiny glint, before grabbing a vial from his bag, stuffing his shovel, now folded, into the bag.

"Alrighty! I'm gonna go get wood and stuff to make a fire, so we can cook the food." Alan leaves to look for supplies.

After a while, Alan comes back with a bundle of sticks and 3 logs.

Just then, after that whole ordeal involving 3 men and a bear, a woman jumped out from the bushes, panting heavily. The woman, a black one with glasses, a cap, a grey militia outfit with lots of tactical gear and an assault rifle in her hands, spoke to them, adjusting her glasses.

"Hey..." She panted. "... so sorry you guys had to wait for me! I'm the one who shot the flare... thank you very much for being patient..." She coughed before catching her breath. "I... I had to deal with some things... Oh! Damn, almost forgot..." Pressing on the magazine release of her XM 8 carbine, she dropped an empty magazine onto the ground before taking a fresh clip out, jamming it into the black carbine and cocking it. "Don't worry... safety's on..." She flicked the fire selector. "... well, now it is..."

She looked among everyone. "Huh... didn't expect you three... I honestly thought I was gonna encounter a few women and children too... oh well." She caught her breath. "Hai... uhm... my name is Danielle Sharpe... but you can call me Dani if you'd like... and I summoned you all here because currently... uhm... search and rescue operations are on hold due to an ongoing civil conflict going inside the colony's borders." The badass bookworm explained, trying to make her exposition dump as short as she possibly could. "And... I know you all have all kinds of questions now, but I want you to know that I am friendly, and I have no intentions on harming you. And if I tried I might fail anyways." She joked. "Okay... as I said, you may have a whole lot of questions, and I will answer them, but first we need to go someplace safe-" She cut herself off before realizing that there was a bear there. "Did you guys fucking take down a fucking bear!? Fucking hell... are you sure you need my help!?" She laughed.

(( Sorry that took so long! Glad you guys are already having fun though! Here are a few images describing Dani... Her in the current scene, her in a dungeon crawler, and her trying to act natural. Again, sorry about that! XD ))
