Ah yes, it was perfectly easy and even desirable to set an elaborate death trap for someone I knew in my heart did nothing wrong, but shooting an evil clone was too much to ask. This sucked. And it was going to keep going either until morning, or until someone died, or...no, she could keep pace with me, in order to jet either the shifting would have to be on my side or I'd have to...stall...

—!?

Had I just felt a whoosh of air right by my head? That was never a good sign. I began scrambling to my feet, deeply dreading the thought of yet another asshole being in on this, and turned to see that it was in fact two other, incidentally familiar assholes.

"...Wow, of all people."

"Hey, at least let me ask about my dog first, whoever you are," Vivi joke-complained, in a way that suggested she wouldn't be that upset about not finding out, while getting up more casually. (I supposed she could just look through my stuff if she was that curious.)

They looked different, meaning either they had video game-style disappearing inventories, or it was more of this clone stuff. It was...tempting, considering this would have exactly zero negative consequences...but on the other hand, I grasped what being outnumbered was. What if—I put that thought on hold to throw myself out of the way of That Guy's immediate charge.

"To be clear, is this a grudge thing or are you just naturally this terrible?" I asked, partly to confirm what I'd already guessed but mostly as a minor distraction while I pulled the stun gun to try and fire at the ranger.

Gon, going in!!

Gon got his face mask and cap ready when he shouldered his beam rifle.

Here goes.

The assassin moved in to open fire at Washington with multiple shots fired after he crouched.

He didn't stay at one spot though. He kept moving and firing his weapon while he was at it.

Inside the Building: Washington

His careful vigil was interrupted by a sudden loud noise. It was purely a reflex that made him look at the noisemaker arrow. And so his gaze was right where Garret wanted it. But, thanks to his years of experience, he just knew after only a moment that something was wrong. It was only a guess, but it was a lucky one.

As the flash bomb flew into the room, Washington shut his eyes. Even with both that and his helmet's visor, though, he couldn't completely shrug off the effects of the blinding light. It was only the fact that he had been affected by flashbangs many times in the past that let him continue to act rather than get shot down immediately when Gon entered the building. "Oh, you have got to be fucking kidding me!"

One of Gon's shots with the beam rifle hit Washington right in his less dominant arm, eliciting a short yelp of pain from the soldier. His armor had prevented it from rendering the limb useless, but the damage was real.

Still unable to see clearly due to the effects of the flash bomb, Washington started to retreat through a door into another room while letting loose a salvo of fire from his rifle in the general direction of Gon. It would be nice if a shot or two landed, but right now he just needed the gunfire to cover his retreat and buy time for his vision to recover.

Still, several more shots had hit him. None in his vitals, but that didn't matter when they were this powerful. The armor there was thicker than it was on his limbs, though, so he could still function. It would be lethal in the long run, but he only needed to survive until the end of the day.

Streets—In front of the Washington building

A moment after Gon entered the building, Viktoria stepped out of a side street and, without a word, immediately attacked Garrett. Her left hand erupted into a tangle of thick, grabby, thorned vines. Even if Freckles managed to warn Garrett about her presence, the thief still was too slow to react before the vines slammed into him and immediately tightened around his entire body, pressing thorns into his flesh and squeezing his windpipe. "I have no time for pleasantries, Garrett. I just want this done and over with, so I order you, pathetic manfool: die quickly."

"Gh—Ah—" was all Garrett could choke out. His arms were pressed against his sides and he could barely move them. He certainly had no hope of reaching any of his arrows or gadgets.

However, in his right hand, he still grasped Freckles. Despite the constricting vines, he attempted to aim it somewhere in the general direction of Viktoria, or her transformed left arm. Viktoria, who was focusing on choking the very life out of the thief, did not immediately notice what he was doing there...

The library

Ben raised an eyebrow and just glanced over at Hercules for a moment. He frowned a little deeper and sat up, looking over more directly at the Greek hero.

"Yeah, that's... that's true," Ben said, sounding a little hurt. "I guess you're right. But... we can't just dwell on that. We need to enjoy our time together while we're both here. And watch each other's backs, y'know?"

Rooftop

The stunning spell hit Joker, and while he didn't instantly freeze, his muscles locked up enough to give Makoto an edge. She let go of one of his hands, and reeled back her arm for a punch. At the last second, her iron knuckles disappeared, and she slammed her gloved fist into the side of his face.

Arsene beat his wings and pushed himself higher into the air, trying to escape Rex's attack, but he froze up suddenly and took a direct hit from one of the nun-chucks. The Persona faded out of existence as Joker hit the ground hard, his mask reappearing.

"Well, shit..." he grunted, touching his now bruised jaw. He didn't even have a chance to try and stand up again before Makoto forced him onto his stomach with his hands behind his back. She kept a knee uncomfortable pressed against his spine, holding him down. He struggled for a few seconds before going limp and laughing quietly. "Just like when the cops got me outside the casino. Good times." Joker spat some blood on the roof. Makoto bit the inside of her cheek to keep from reacting to that memory.

"...Just stop talking. This is hard enough," she said, before looking up at Thomas. "Hey, can you help Silanea up here?" she asked, raising her voice. "I've got this handled." She upholstered her gun and slammed it into the back of Joker's head. He seemed to pass out.

In the streets somewhere

The Lady Amelia copy tried to dodge, having anticipated a possible retaliation, but wasn't quite ready enough to completely evade an energy bolt. It grazed her shoulder as she moved to one side, which was still enough to send her to the ground, nearly unconscious.

"I'm fairly certain we don't know each other" the Sir Tristen copy said, coming to a stop after his missed charge and turning back to Lewis. "Because if you did, you'd know I always come to the aid of fair maidens in danger" the knight added in a joking tone. Then in a very un-joking like manner, Sir Tristen stepped in close to Lewis, and made a wide sword swing at Lewis' chest; the kind that would be very difficult to dodge, and would normally take either blocking or armor to avoid being slashed.

Rooftop not far from the library

Thomas raised an eyebrow, then glanced around, not seeing Silanea until he drifted closer to the edge she was trying to get up to. Speaking of, Silanea had given up on using her arms to climb, and was coiling up her tail on the highest part of the fire escape she felt she safely could; it seemed she was intending to spring herself up to the edge, but before she could, Thomas pointed his wand at her and incanted, "wingardium leviosa!"

A quick flash of light later, and Silanea came gently floating up over the edge of the building, and carefully placed down. "Ah, thank you" Silanea said gratefully, then looked around at the rest of the rooftop, and frowned slightly. "What, it's already over?" the lamia asked, turning to Rex and adding, "well then, now what are-"

Silanea stopped and did a double take towards the other side of the rooftop, then turned to Rex again, now with a kind of flabbergasted expression. "What happened to their ship!?!" Silanea exclaimed, motioning at the effectively-beached Thunder Child.

"I was kind of wondering the same thing" Thomas added.

"... There's gotta be some way we could keep in touch, isn't there?" Louie suggested after a pause, adding as an explanation, "you know, like the calls home we got?"

Outside With Garret: Freckles

While Gon lead the assault on Washington, Garret remained outside with Freckles. This, unfortunately, left the thief open to attack. Freckles, though it gave an alarming beep as a warning, couldn't do anything for the reaction time of its current wielder. The thief was caught.

But, luckily for him, Garret hadn't lost his wits. He was attempting to utilize the deadly weapon in his hands for its true purpose, rather than as a glorified tracking device.

His aim, unfortunately, wasn't perfect. But Freckles could work with that. The weapon ran the numbers in a mere instant, calculating trajectories and recoil, and executed the best course of action. First, the gun fired once. This bullet would sail right past Viktoria, a harmless miss. But the true purpose of this shot was for the recoil, which Freckles had perfectly accounted for, to bring its barrel right into position.

Several milliseconds after the first planned miss, Freckles automatically fired several bullets directly into Viktoria's body.

Prison, militia barracks

In terms of combat, the day hadn't been so bad for the militia; many of their foes were not all that dangerous. However, the day had been taxing on many of them in... Other ways. Things were quiet, even as most of the patrol groups were back in the lounge area. They just silently sat around for the most part, their energy for chatter seemingly gone.

Only Wells was speaking, as he walked in, specifically to his walkie talkie. "At least it's still in one piece. If she can stay put, just leave her where she is, but if she starts to drift, try to set down on the ground" Wells said into it.

"Understood, sir" Greg's voice responded on the militia channel.

Wells put the walkie talkie away, and glanced around the room. "Alright men, get some rest. Tomorrow we have a secondary priority; first comes the civilians as always, but we'll also need to be fixing the Thunder Child. You'll need some energy" Wells told them all.

"Sir, how can you still be so normal?" one person asked. "I mean, after that lady who tried to kill you, and the stuff she said-" they went on, but got cut off by Wells speaking up.

"She wasn't real" Wells stated simply, his voice firm, but calm. "And nothing she said changes our current situation. You'll all do well to remember that" the lieutenant went on, heading towards the bunk room.

"So you don't care?" the same person questioned back.

Wells stopped, and turned to look back at them, a frustrated though also solemn sort of expression on his face. "... Of course I care. Giving up and sorry about it now though, that won't help anyone. Unless our host is feeling uncharacteristically gracious tomorrow, there will still be danger that people need protection from. Right now, that matters more than my... Personal issues" the lieutenant explained, turning towards the bunks again, and adding as he walked away, "and I don't want to hear any more of it tonight."

It was a quiet night in the barracks after that, as everyone tried to get some rest, but not everyone could find sleep so easily after the day's events...

Library, as the hours wind down...

Miss Tairee kept idly typing occasionally, and sipping on coffee as the night progressed. It was quiet now in the lobby, especially with the dampening fields about. One of the Miss Tairee copies at the central desks glanced about, tapping her finger on the desk, only to pause. Miss Tairee let out a, "hmm," and typed a bit. The copy closed her eyes, which then blurred for a moment, and she opened them again, now glowing green with true sight. "Ah, just as I thought" Miss Tairee muttered, as the copy closed her eyes, which blurred again before returning to normal.

One of the copies stepped out from the desks and walked through the lobby, silently weaving between various couches and coffee tables and chairs. She stopped in front of one couch. After a few moments of waiting, she decided that the occupant apparently wasn't going to respond on their own, so she leaned down a bit, and tapped their shoulder.

"Huh? What now, guys, I'm trying to- Hey, you?!" Louie started up after turning his head enough to spot who was actually tapping on him.

"You can't sleep" the Miss Tairee copy commented simply.

"No" Louie denied, glancing aside with an annoyed look. "What do you care, anyway?" the trainer added defiantly.

The Miss Tairee copy's expression remained flat, and she just stared at him for a few moments, blinking once. Finally, she turned, and motioned with her hand. "Come. You want answers, don't you?" the Miss Tairee copy asked rhetorically, and started to walk to one of the staircases.

Louie looked a bit surprised, and torn. After glancing out of his own little dampening field, which had kept the conversation from loudly interrupting anyone else, Louie hesitantly stepped off the couch, then quickly moved to catch up with the Miss Tairee copy.

The two of them went up to the fourth floor, and the Miss Tairee copy started to lead Louie through the aisles of bookshelves. "... Hey, couldn't you have just brought what we're looking for downstairs?" Louie pointed out, in slight confusion.

"Context and setting are important. Like, not being in the middle of a room crowded with sleeping strangers, for instance" the Miss Tairee copy answered, running her hand along some book spines as she slowed her walk. "Ah, here it is" she muttered, and phased her hand through the books, then pulled it back with a different book that hadn't been there. A compendium of sorts, on the Pokemon world, filled with odd tidbits of lore and trivial information that Louie glanced as she flipped through the pages.

"Hey, that's my universe, isn't it?" Louie wondered, as he recognized some things; namely, pokemon.

"A different timeline, technically; your universe has several. Possibly more than you could count, in fact. However, I tracked one down that, while technically not your own, has everything related to you happen exactly the same as it was going to happen to you, had you not been brought here" the Miss Tairee copy explained as she continued scanning through the pages.

"Uh... Come again?" Louie said, confused.

The Miss Tairee copy paused and sighed. "Your future, Louie. Or at least, the future that would have been. Here" the Miss Tairee copy elaborated more simply, before showing Louie one particular page, one particular photo of himself, of himself some years older. Of himself, getting married to Kaylie.

Louie stared wide eyed at it in silence, his mouth drifting open slightly, only to close again, a couple times. After some thirty seconds, he reached out slowly with a shaky hand, and took the book. "... So it's... True..? I'm going to, marry Kaylie?" Louie muttered, glancing up to the Miss Tairee copy.

The Miss Tairee copy turned her head away, thinking for a moment. "Not necessarily, but I think-" the Miss Tairee copy started, only to be cut off by Louie.

"What's that supposed to mean!?" Louie yelled in an alarmed tone.

"Shh, boy, let me finish" the Miss Tairee copy answered, in a tone somewhere between scolding and comforting. "Your future is altered, irreversibly. That is the whole point of this project; to see what would change due to your being here. That means that just because it was going to happen before, does not mean it is still guaranteed to happen now" the duplicate librarian went on.

Louie... Just looked a bit confused still, tilting his head. His expression was turning to one of concern, and he almost had tears in his eyes. The Miss Tairee copy looked at him, and sighed, then placed her hands on his shoulders.

"But I think, it probably still will, just no longer in the exact same way" the Miss Tairee copy said quietly, in a reassuring tone. "It's rather simple, Louie. In your timeline as it was, Kaylie chose to marry you; I don't see what could be so different between the two of you now, that she would choose not to now" the duplicate librarian explained, then let her hands go, and stood straight to add, "now, those were the answers you wanted, weren't they?"

Louie seemed relieved, but at the same time, also still somewhat conflicted and confused. "B-b-but, how am I going to-" Louie started to stammer, but this time it was the Miss Tairee copy's turn to interrupt him, with some gentle shushing.

"Now now, Louie. Some things you will have to figure out for yourself, in your own way" the Miss Tairee copy told him, then started to walk away down the aisle.

"But she said during the fight, that it was the worst mistake of her life!" Louie said in a desperate tone. The Miss Tairee copy stopped, and glanced over her shoulder.

"Oh, is that what you're so concerned about? Well, don't worry; that part was the lie, that she made up to make you more vulnerable. Easier to kill. In your original timeline you were quite the happy married couple" the Miss Tairee copy said to him.

"That... That was a lie... Oh..." Louie muttered, collapsing to his knees with this immense relief washing over him. "... So, how will I know what to do? How will I know whether I'm messing up, or not?"

"Didn't I just say you'll have to find out yourself? But if you must know, I'd suggest being yourself to start with, Louie" the Miss Tairee copy answered. "After all, how do you think 'you' did it?" she added, with audible quotations marks, as she motioned to the picture of the older Louie, that she was referring to. She walked away, this time without Louie saying anything else. He just looked at the book and the picture, on a page detailing things about society in his world, and silently contemplated it for a while.

Somewhere...

As Miss Tairee appeared, once again as one person, she brought a hand to her chin in thought. "Well, that actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be" Miss Tairee commented, hearing the Writer beginning to write, before seeing his words in her vision.

"It was not as exciting as I thought it would be, either. This is alright however, though I have decided on a couple of changes for their final day of challenge."

A piece of paper floated over to Miss Tairee, which she took and read through. "You're allowing respawning? Oh, but you're also... That seems a little excessive" Miss Tairee commented as she read through part of it. Getting to another bit, she raised her eyebrows. "Releasing the limitations? Well, you know some of them will still need to be exceptions, right?" the secretary pointed out, flapping the piece of paper for a moment, as she seemed to be implying something in particular. She heard more sound of a pen being used on paper, and saw more words appear.

"Yes, I know. I expect you'll be able to handle any more final adjustments within the city?"

"If I must" Miss Tairee agreed with a slightly reluctant sigh, and let go of the piece of paper so it could drift away. She glanced upwards- not that it made any difference in this place other than how it felt to her- and seemed to contemplate. "So this is it? Just one more day, and then they get sent home?" the secretary muttered, a little quiet. There was more scribbling heard, and new words showed up.

"Yes. The last day will be of peace, and for them to make goodbyes."

Miss Tairee stayed silent for a minute, still staring upward as the words faded. "... Alright then" Miss Tairee finally said, lowering her head. "Let's do it" the secretary stated simply. There was more writing, and more words.

"Then, let us begin."

Day twenty eight, reflections in the mirror
library lobby

After the world had blurred once the sun-less dawn had started to break, Miss Tairee narrowed her eyes as she reappeared in the middle of the central desks. Quickly, she sat down and started typing. After not long, there was blurring in much of the lobby, and the dampening fields all suddenly vanished. A few people already started to be roused simply from the light on them, but soon enough almost everyone would be getting awoken, because Miss Tairee started to speak throughout the whole lobby as if on a speaker system.

"Ladies and gentlemen and others, may I have your attention. For today only there is a simple rule change within the library; I will not be preventing fights within the library. All other rules still apply. That is all" Miss Tairees voice announced through the lobby.

Plenty of people in the lobby did not catch on right away to what that really meant; after all, many of them were still groggy from being woken up suddenly. Not everyone was so slow, though. "Wait, does that mean what I think it means?" one lady asked aloud, as she got up from a couch and glanced around worriedly. Louie, who was back on his couch without the book, rubbed his eyes as he sat up, glancing around mainly in confusion.

Miss Tairee had simply kept typing, seemingly ignoring the murmur starting up in the lobby around her. Soon there was a blur near the central desks, as a Miss Tairee copy appeared, who wandered over to where some of the young, unattended children were, like Seirwuosuhr and Tommy. The Miss Tairee copy set down a stack of books for children of various types on a coffee table between them. "Here, I recommend doing some reading today" the Miss Tairee copy said to them.

"What? Why would we want to read today?" Tommy asked, rubbing his eyes and then looked around in confusion. "And what is happening?" the boy added.

"Trust me, you will probably want to read a book today" the Miss Tairee copy assured the boy in response.

Meanwhile, among the commotion starting to happen, someone did walk into the library through one of the doors. Kelsey, but she was wearing a brown UPS uniform, and holding a cardboard box under one arm. "Hey! Got a delivery here!" Kelsey hollered, glancing around the room. "Anyone here seen, uh, me?" she asked nobody in particular.

Gon, going to wrap Day 27

Gon fired until he could see Washington retreat.

Good.

He moved back carefully after the hostile left and made his way back to Garrett and Freckles.

He shouldered his beam rifle after seeing the hooded thief come under attack.

Damn. Gon aimed the weapon at Viktoria. Don't know if I have a good shot.

Gon inhaled and exhaled and aimed the weapon and fired it at Vikotoria's legs... if possible.

day 27

"Geez, ya ain't gotta be sexist about it," Vivi deadpanned, now on her feet again and running to where I was. She didn't seem to be done either, but I was a bit too preoccupied to really listen in. Because in the meantime, the sexist bastard in question was also moving closer and already gearing up for a wide slash.

Was this where it kind of ended but not really? On the one hand, dying here wouldn't really change much in the long run and wasn't entirely unmerited, but...I hated the feeling. But then what. Too close to practically dodge. Phaser bad, real gun questionable. I doubted I could draw anything else from my bag fast enough. Not that there was much useful to draw. Vi was practically next to me, likely ready to cave in my skull if I somehow survived, with that charmed bat...

"I mean yeah, thanks for breaking our stalemate but I don't think he has the balls to—"

I hurriedly fired a second pulse haphazardly at her general direction, then dropped everything else to rip the bat from her and try and whip it in front of myself fast enough.

Day 27, street scuffle, he may be an asshole but he's still an asshole who was trained to kill people

It wasn't as if the copy of Sir Tristen was moving in slow motion or anything; in fact, the Vivi copy shouldn't have even had the time to say the two sentences she evidently meant to, before his sword would already be hitting Lewis, or even just one whole sentence. Regardless, what this meant was that there was no way Lewis could move fast enough to stun the Vivi copy, grab her bat, and move that bat in the way of the sword. He would be about as far as starting to reach for the bat when the sword would slash into his chest, digging in a couple inches as it sliced through flesh and ground into his ribs, where it got stuck momentarily.

The Sir Tristen copy got it unstuck by way of punching Lewis' gut under the strike with the edge of his shield, forcing Lewis off of the sword rather than the other way around. Not feeling the need for further pleasantries yet, the Sir Tristen copy continued his assault without making any small talk. He brought his sword arm back, before thrusting forward at Lewis' chest in a stabbing motion.

Day 27, Streets, Viktoria fight

Viktoria was focused on choking the life out of Garrett, and did not immediately pay attention to the black, angular device he was pointing towards her; not that she'd ever seen anything similar in her entire life. Only after a moment she realized this could be some sort of a weapon... but at that moment Freckles fired a series of bullets into her body. Viktoria cried out in pain, and the vines entangling Garrett loosened a little, but not enough to let him go.

A gasp was heard from Garrett as he quickly inhaled, his throat no longer hopelessly constricted.

Viktoria had one of her vines reach out and wrap around Freckles, trying to forcibly divert the weapon away.

Unfortunately for her, at this moment Gon unexpectedly came out of the building, and shot a laser beam across her legs. With another yell, Viktoria fell to her knees. With a snarl, she raised her right arm and had it immediately grow into another tangle of vines, directing them towards Gon in an attempt to ensnare the assassin and knock the rifle out of his hands.

However, Garrett wasn't wasting time either. Now able to somewhat move his left arm, he had fished something out of a pocket: a fire arrow, which he smashed into the vines grappling him as best as he could. There was a small explosion; he gritted his teeth from the pain as his hand was burnt. However, Viktoria's vines fared even worse against the fiery blast. In shock, she instinctively retracted most of her vines on that side. Garrett wasn't yet completely free, but he was more mobile now, and no longer being choked.

Day 27 Library

Ben knew exactly how Herc was feeling once the latter had explained his situation and then nodded: "We have spend a lot of time together. Though it's mainly because of the day conditions here but I've experienced so mamy things that I never thought existed. And if it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have understood this place by myself."

He then thought for a moment and then turned back to face Ben:"Maybe when the last day comes if we are not fighting that is, maybe we could I don't know maybe go to the movie theater? And watch something perhaps?" He then asked considering his options seeing as there were not that many days left, they could very well go and see a movie.

day 27

Now, it may have looked bad that I'd misweighed my very few options and was now coughing blood while being knocked to the floor again, but this wasn't that bad compared to some of my other worse scrapes. Almost all of which had killed me pretty swiftly, but...I actually didn't have anywhere positive to go with this train of thought. Barring a lucky break, the best case scenario I could see was lasting long enough to slowly bleed out. I supposed there were the potions in my bag, but it wouldn't mean shit if I couldn't get some breathing room, which I wasn't remotely confident in. Maybe if—no, I didn't have anything to block a stab with, and even if I did it'd only prolong this slightly. What else was there, the videos, the stuffed animal, the...

My eyes widened, not at the sword but at something else that'd crossed my mind. I tried rolling to the side, reaching into the bag to toss Cascabel's ball down the road. If I lost the ball by dying...

Day 27: Outside the Building with Viktoria

Though at this point it probably wouldn't be necessary, Freckles kept itself processing the current environment. If at any point it ended up being positioned correctly so as to be able to place a bullet into Viktoria's body, the gun would fire. Otherwise, it would do nothing.

Day 27: Inside the Building: Wounded Washington

The wounds that Washington had sustained weren't good, not by any means. He had taken a shot to one of his legs, meaning that running away probably wouldn't work. Both of the assailants were still alive, so he couldn't expect them to give up the assault.

At the very least, he had managed to regain full use of his eyes during the time that Gon and Garret were occupied with Viktoria.

It was a split second decision, but he decided to help with the fight instead of fleeing. Too risky to run right now. He limped slowly back towards the building's entrance, letting the currently unfolding fight distract everyone from his approach, and raised up his gun towards Gon. With one arm wounded, he decided to take a few moments while he still was unnoticed to make sure his aim was good.

Day 27: Outside the Building: Freckles

As Washington prepared his aim, Freckles detected his heat signature. "Agent Washington has not retreated. Target is currently behind Gon and aiming at Gon," the weapon warned in its normal monotone.

"Shit!" Feeling pressured by the fact that the element of surprise was just stripped away from him, Washington immediately began firing at Gon. But his aim wasn't as good as he would have liked, probably due to the wounds one of his arms had sustained already. Most of the shots would probably miss, and even if there was a hit it was unlikely to land in any vitals.

Day 27, the library

Ben smiled slightly, nodding gently at Hercules.

"That'd be cool. I'd like that," Ben said to him. "Now let's get some rest. We should keep our strength up for whatever the Writer throws at us." With that, Ben curled up on the couch and cuddled into a pillow to go to sleep.

Day 28, a rude awakening at the library

Ben was woken up by Miss Tairee's announcement. Already grouchy from having been woken up, Ben glared at Miss Tairee, then bolted up and started adjusting the Omnitrix.

"What it means is that Miss Tairee's boss finally decided to make sure no one got out of this unscathed. Not even the innocent bystanders. That monster! Everyone stay put, protection or no, I'm gonna keep everyone safe here!" With that, Ben slammed his hand on the watch and transformed into Four Arms. He turned towards the assembled group in the library.

"All right, anyone with super strength come on and help me set up a barricade, just like that zombie day for whoever remembers that! Anyone else, start setting up bunkers behind chairs and shelves and stuff! We need to make sure nothing gets in!" he insisted, starting to shove a nearby empty couch towards the nearest door.

Day 27, street fight

The roll barely avoided the stab, though the Sir Tristen copy followed the clang into the pavement by swinging his sword in that same direction, clipping Lewis' back as he rolled. The knight paused briefly to glance at where the thrown pokeball went, and raised his shield in a reflexive action when it open with a burst of light. When he saw what actually came of it however, he didn't seem impressed. "A summon? Oh you fool, that won't help you now" the Sir Tristen copy said, stepping towards Lewis and throwing a kick aimed at Lewis' head, meant to disorient him before going for a coup de grace with his sword.

Library, lobby

Plenty of people looked to Four Arms, many still looking uncertain and murmuring, but a few did start trying to work together to push some couches.

Miss Tairee, still with her voice projected through the lobby, cleared her throat with an, "a-hem." Then she looked over towards Ben. "So Ben, after you block off the entrances, how will you tell the difference between someone innocent who needs to get inside for their safety, and someone who is coming in to kill?" Miss Tairee asked, in a rhetorical tone.

"Uh, if they look bad?" Louie answered, as he stood from his couch.

Miss Tairee just stared at Louie with a blank expression in return.

Library, lobby corner

"I mean-and at the risk of *urp* sounding like the bad guy here, I vote we lock the library and anyone who's outside can make their own arrangements. All I know is that I am not leaving this library today and that's a damn fact..."

Rick, clearly on edge, twirled his pistol around and watched as Morty overturned a table against another table, creating a crude approximation of a foxhole, perfect for cowering in the likely event of imminent death, "...and God help me, if one of you people fall for some kind of sympathy ploy or-or whatever..."

"You know what?" said Morty, grabbing another table and shoving it up against the overturned table, turning the foxhole into an impromptu bunker, "I agree with him, lock the, lock the whole damn building down. I had to- I had to kill my own damn father yesterday!" he burst out, his voice rising in intensity, "that- that was, was really horrible! Rick lost an arm for, like, the third time! I had to kill my own grandfather, or, like an alternate-reality version of him two days ago after he tried to lobotomize me! No one gets in, nobody leaves!"

day 27

The shuppet lifted its head like it'd just been woken from a nap, before immediately flipping to distress once it registered what was going on. It began floating with trepidation to the wall of a nearby building, watching, at the same time drawing just slightly closer. There seemed to be a faint glow in its eyes...?

"I just didn't want it stuck in there..." I mumbled, trying to sit up and ignore the pain catching up to me. That was canceled by the boot to the head (ha ha), unfortunately...was there anything to do still? I was too off-balance to take my gun and shoot, for what good it would do in any case...he'd been distracted for a moment when I'd sent Cascabel out, but I'd let it pass, damnit, and now...ugh this was a terrible idea. "Aretheretwoofyourgirlfriend?" I blurted, entirely lying, about to attempt a blind (and probably futile because armor, but at least not halfassed) kick if I wasn't dead by the time the words left me.note

Day 28, Two Is Still Daydreaming

Yesterday was a strange experience.

By all accounts, Two should know better. The Cent that she spent the entire day civilly conversing with it was here to kill her. He didn't really deny it either, kept from attacking only by the library's divine protection. And yet, perhaps because she was so starved for contact with him, not at all satisfied with merely seeing his face on the other side of the screen, she indulged him.

And so they talked, and enjoyed each other's company while doing so. Even once they fell asleep in each other's embrace and his presence finally vanished with the end of the day, Two was at ease. Perhaps this was something that she needed: a whole day off to be concerned only with herself, to recharge batteries and find strength for the challenges to come. Thus, she welcome the next day with a lively step and a radiant smile, a picture of bright cheerful energy.

Even the chaos in the library couldn't mar it. "Hm...? What's going on?" She asked with a frown, seeing the preparations for... locking the library? She listened to Rick and Morty's traumatic story of yesterday. Right. She got off easy... "Wait, we can't do that. What about the people outside? They could be seeking the library as shelter, as they always have had."

Day 27, better luck with the next Sir Tristen copy maybe

The kick only made the Sir Tristen copy's foot budge a little, and the stab still came down into Lewis' torso, just below his rib cage on the right side. "You mean my wife?" the Sir Tristen copy asked in a rhetorical tone, planting one foot on Lewis' chest to keep him still, before yanking the sword back out. "Oh I know" the knight added, then Lewis' perspective would go somersaulting as the copy of Sir Tristen swiftly decapitated the former ghost.

With Lewis dead, the Sir Tristen copy glanced down the street to the copy of Lady Amelia, and called, "are you alright, 'dear'?" with audible quotation marks.

"It still stings, but I think I'm not injured" the Lady Amelia copy answered, in a complaining tone.

The library

Four Arms raised an eyebrow as Miss Tairee voiced her concern.

"Yeah, what kind of stupid question is that? If monsters come in to try and kill us we stop them, it's that simple," Four Arms replied. When Rick and Morty spoke up, though, Four Arms winced and looked away.

"Okay maybe that's going a bit far," Four Arms murmured. "If people are in trouble we should help them. But we can't let any monsters in. We gotta be careful..." With that he continued pushing a nearby couch up as a barricade.

Library, lobby

"After the last couple of days, you really expect it to be that simple?" Miss Tairee asked in response, her voice still going throughout the lobby. Then, she sighed in mild irritation. "Besides, it's a moot point; as I said, the other rules of the library are still in effect, and that includes not blocking off others from entering or exiting. You are free to make yourself a little pillow fort or whatever, but you may not block the doors" the librarian added, glancing over at Rick and Morty. The other people in the library who had been moving furniture stopped, glancing at the librarian and then at Four Arms.

"... This is the first place any threat is gonna come looking for people!" some guy said loudly, and moved to one of the exits. "I'm getting out of here!" the man added simply, before making a break through the revolving doors. Many people still looked uncertain, but some started to follow suit, figuring to get out while they still could.

Louie looked a bit annoyed, but then glanced to Four Arms with a confident expression. "But, if we're still allowed to fight, then we'll just beat up any bad guys that try to come in here!" Louie said, punching one hand into his other palm.

Library

"Alright alright, fine." Rick paused mid table-shove and thought for a second. "Tairee, can you, ah, please summon me up me some piano wire?" he mumbled as he rummaged around in his ragged labcoat for his tools. "Maybe, uh, some gasoline, a sparkplug, a switch, while I'm at it..."
