Yharnam was very limited in terms of space it allowed the player to access; the lion's share of the map was taken up by houses that were of course all closed off (Granted, the same holds true for most open-world games, but Bloodborne isn't exactly a GTA in scope). Here everything is just very broad and open. When there's an instance of a tight corridor, it's usually a multi-tiered one that branches off into several directions, not just a linear walkway.

Dark Souls 3 is supposed to be the turning point for the franchise.

Maybe Miyazaki will just stop the bullshit and just make all the souls games (demon's Souls and Bloodborne included) into one expansive multiverse that was caused by depending on what you do with the Old one back in Demon's Souls.

I thought 3 was supposed to be the end for the franchise?

I believe it's a mistranslation, as Miyazaki said Turning Point at the behind closed doors demonstration at E3 instead.

It's the last Dark Souls game, not the last Soulsborne-type of game.

Even though I'm pretty sure it was officially denied, in my head the Land of the Giants with the broken archstone in Demon's Souls is Lordran. It's just too cool an idea.

I don't feel like Bloodborne and the other games are connected though. The worlds and lore are just too different. Though I suppose there could be a great deal of time inbetween them.

I quite like what I've seen of the weapon arts so far. The straight sword jab is very much a carbon copy of the Alonne Knights' katana rush in Dark Souls II, but I'm not at all objecting, because I wanted to be able to pull off that move myself.

I'm so gonna play this.

I am gonna avoid every whisper on this game. That was my regret woth Dark Souls; I walkthroughed the shite out of it.

This will be me first completely blind Souls game. Agh, the wait will hurt.

To the people talking about Armored Souls up there:

Pressed on whether he would explore the sci-fi or mech genres, perhaps by applying the Souls framework to them, Miyazaki said he "definitely wants to bring the Miyazaki Touch" to them.

As part of his remit as president, Miyazaki intends to launch "several new projects," but didn't specify what these would be.

"I do want to work on something new," he added. "I’m pleased to hear people are interested in seeing that." http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dark-souls-creator-planning-to-launch-several-new-/1100-6429589/

They should call it Tin Man's Heart; that name would capture both the Souls and Armored Core essence, and be a badass reference to boot.

As long as it has enough mech customization for me to spend hundreds of hours just building different robots like I did in ACFA, I'll be satisfied.

I dunno if I'd want it to be a mech game. I mean, we have Armored Core. I always imagined something where you play a person. There's plenty of scope for energy swords and magic spells or psychic powers in a scifi setting.

An idea just occurred to me that to replace the 'undead' mechanic, you could play a clone who gets recreated on death, memories transferred into a new body.

Now I'm thinking how cool it would be (in any of the games), instead of simply having a bloodstain left at your point of death, if there was an actual corpse visible, dressed in whatever you were wearing when you died.

So, your stuff would be left at your corpse, while your respawn would have to deal with whatever backup items you had?

I think what he meant is that during online player can see a corpse dressed in that armor, and interact with it to see thier death. There is no reason to add a script to strip you of what you had equiped.

No, I meant simply that the bloodstain where you would regain souls or echoes or whatever is just replaced with a corpse. I just thought it'd look cool. I wasn't suggesting a change in mechanics at all.

Hehe, I love how people are complaining about the faster-paced combat. This might come as a surprise to a lot of folks, but the speedy clashes in Dark Souls III are actually way closer to reality than the sluggish pace of its predecessors (silly combat rolls notwithstanding). A Zweihänder is a relatively light weapon in real life, weighing as little as 6 lbs, and being swung just as quickly and nimbly as a broadsword.

it's not even about realism to me at this point really.

real or not the slow-paced combat helped make the souls series distinct at first. a lot of weapons had a great sense of weight to them that you don't get in a lot of other games.

but we're like 5 games into this subseries now, and in a relatively short amount of time too. i'm fine with the series evolving and trying something new.

I dunno if I'd want it to be a mech game. I mean, we have Armored Core. I always imagined something where you play a person. There's plenty of scope for energy swords and magic spells or psychic powers in a scifi setting.

i didn't necessarily get the impression you would be a mech. a cyborg maybe. what i had in mind was more of a dark/moody "future fantasy" like star wars.

I remember reading somewhere a while back how much a zweihander weighed, and thinking "That can't possibly be right".

I'm all for the faster combat. Bloodborne's fighting is great, and at the moment I'm dipping in and out of Scholar of the First Sin, and the combat there feels pretty sluggish. Though that just may be Dark Souls II in general. It's been a while since I played the first one now.

That said, I kinda hope it feels more like Souls than Bloodborne in the end.

The sense of weight doesn't necessarily come from the slow pace, though; it comes from the fact that weapons in this game are actually being physically swung around and make direct contact with the opponent, rather than just drawing colourful speed lines in the air and magically cause paper cuts on enemies. Even the fastest weapon in Bloodborne still had a windup time to all of its strikes, rather than the "attack hits as soon as you press the button" timing you find in typical hack 'n' slash games.

The Dark Sci-Fi Fantasy Souls game(or Armored King's Tower: Demon's Dark Blood) would give the player character power armor. Even with it you're gonna die horribly.

Weapons: guns, what are basically lightsabers, your power armor.

Psychic powers should replace at least on form of magic(Miracles?)

[up] Pretty much the kind of thing I was thinking.

I can't wondering about having some kind of limited flight ability, or some kind of jet boost to get you moving around quickly in combat. Probably it'd be rather a lot like Armored Core, actually. I think it'd be cool to see From try some more aerial combat in such a game, whether it's flight or just jumping.

One thing I'm curious to see is if FROM will bring back the more complex smithing system from the first game for Dark Souls III, or if they go with the simplifications from the sequel. On the one hand, I liked the fact that they removed the terrible clutter of having to search for a unique kind of titanite for almost every singular weapon upgrade tree, but the infusion system on the other hand felt almost a bit lazy to me. People were also rather split about the change made to elemental scaling, esp. fire and lightning, but I think replacing holy and occult modifier with lightning and dark was a good step; hell, it was even explained pretty well in the lore, with the whole "religions have died with the old Gods and decadent sects are running the show now" theme.
