A Quest For Adventure! Signups (Indiana Jones Inspired RP)

Adventurers wanted! Mississippi Brown, legendary treasure hunter has decided to go on one last adventure before his age finally catches up to him. And this adventure has all the markings of a great one - the search for the fabled Holy Lance! This famous spear that allegedly pierced the side of Christ is truly a treasure worth questing after.

Rumors have recently sprung up that clues to the Lance's location have been discovered in Europe and that the Nazis, Britain, France, America, the Catholic Church, and various raiders and criminals all have interest in cracking these clues and taking the Lance for themselves. Mississippi Brown, however, knows where the Lance truly belongs - in a museum. Assembling together a crack team of archaeologists, fellow adventurers, friends, and misfits, he boards a plane from New York City tomorrow to seek adventure, glory, and, hopefully, the Holy Lance

Sorry for the cheesy title but I think it fits the tone of this RP well enough. If you hadn't guessed it by now, this RP is a ripoff of homage to the Indiana Jones series of films. It takes place in a WW 2 time period (date deliberately left vague) and it involves cracking codes and finding mythical artifacts. Danger will be everywhere and many adversaries will be trying to gun for you! Loot, exotic locales, and adventure will abound.

Your character can be pretty much anything as long as it fits within the time period - a friend of Brown's, a fellow treasure hunter, a pilot, a doctor, a clown, you name it!

Signup sheets should include (but are definitely not limited to)

• Name - what their character is known by - be it a birth name or a nickname
• Age and Gender - I hope I don't have to explain what these are.
• Appearance - Picture or description will suffice.
• Personality - Nothing too detailed. Just how your character generally is most of the time.
• Equipment - Includes weapons, food, tools, and other supplies. Keep in mind that Mississippi Brown will be bringing a lot of supplies on his own so you don't need to cram a camping store into your backpack
• Skills and Abilities What your character can do. Feel free to put down seemingly useless skills on this part - you never know when they might come in handy.
• Backstory - How their character came to be who they are today and, most especially, how they got linked up with Brown's expedition

Slight bump of sorts. Even if you guys haven't thought of a character yet, it'd be nice if you posted here that you were planning on making one. That way I have an accurate count on who plans on playing.

I may try to adapt a character for this. Can't promise anything.

I do have an interest, but I don't have any striking ideas for a character just yet. I'll gladly sign up if I can think of a character that interests me, but I don't want to commit to anything just yet.

Would a semi-reformed felon work?

Absolutely. Just provide info about his crime and why he decided to help out Brown.

I'm thinking of a clergyman sent to accompany/supervise Brown. Representative of a group of American protestant churches. They don't have the resources to out-compete the Vatican, and are pretty confident in Brown's chances. Perhaps they've even sponsored the expedition. They don't want the Lance for themselves (they're hardly an enduring alliance), but better it end up in an American museum then the Vatican's archives.

That idea sounds great! The church can donate money but Mississippi won't let them sponsor it because he wants this project to be independent.

Double post - mainly to put up this signup sheet for Mississippi Brown but also a stealth bump. Shhhh...don't tell anyone.

• Name -Mississippi Brown
• Age and Gender - 57 year old man.
• Appearance - Looks like this◊ but with an eyepatch.
• Personality - Brown has a gruff, no-nonsense exterior but adventure is in his soul and he can hardly keep his excitement to himself when he discovers some new expedition to go on. Is fiercely patriotic, like most Americans during the war, and hates Nazis with a passion. Is surprisingly good with children and he loves his dog Spot more than anyone in the world.
• Equipment - Carries his old but trusty Colt M1892 with him at all times. Has a small backpack that contains all sorts of practical outdoorsman supplies, as well as all matter of odds and ends that he has collected over the years. It's a messy backpack and only Mississippi knows where everything is. Owns a tiny dog named Spot that accompanies him wherever he goes. Brown is also quite loaded and, thus, has a lot of cash on his person.
• Skills and Abilities
  • Quick Draw - Brown may not be the most accurate but he can outdraw most people.
  • Gun Maintenance - Brown has lovingly maintained his Colt M1892 and can clean and assemble most other guns as well.
  • Dog Care - Takes care of Spot well
  • Map Reading - Comes with the job of treasure hunter
  • Foreign Languages - Over the years, Brown has picked up French and Russian.
  • Equestrian - Can ride a horse bareback if need be.
• Backstory - Mississippi Brown was born in...Alabama. He got his nickname from the college that he attended. At Ole Miss, Brown studied Archaeology passionately. After college, he got a job accompanying a professor on an expedition to Egypt and he was immediately hooked on adventuring. Abandoning lucrative archaeology jobs, Mississippi became a full-time treasure hunter. And became quite good at it. He amassed quite a fortune and got in so many adventure that he became legendary in the States. He now desires to go on one last treasure hunt before retiring peacefully on his ranch.

Personality: A dour academic, Adam says little and keeps his cards close to his vest. He is much more interested in the information about the past that can be gathered on this trip than he is in actually finding treasure

I've been considering a pilot or a spy for my character.

I am considering making a well-read mechanic character. I am thinking about making him black, but I do not know if that would be ill-advised.

It wouldn't be ill advised. There were well-educated blacks in the 40s and it certainly wouldn't be too out of place. Your character might get some comments from other people but Brown would be fine with him.

I'm still interested in this, I'm just hoping to get struck by lightning about what sort of character in particular I'd find the most interesting to play as.

• Name- Jack "Spades " Dowl
• Age and Gender-21/Male
• Skill Set-Talented sharpshooter and just barely capable of drawing faster than Brown.
• Apperance- Nearly as far from action hero as you can get. Spades is a tall, scrawny man with little muscle and looks like he should be reading a math textbook instead of going on adventures with a group of badasses. He has brown hair and a very pale complexion.
• Personality-Spades is a Nice Guy, but can become very snarky in response to idiocy and the laws of physics being broken before his very eyes.
• Equipment- Carries a combat rifle with a bayonet and a handgun. He also carries matches and duct tape.
• Background- Spades is a college student and enjoys competing in sharpshooting competitions, which he typically wins. He is working on a degree on engineering. He was taught sharpshooting by Browns, who he slowly surpassed due to a surprising amount of natural talent. Browns gave Jack the nickname 'Spades' after beating him in a poker match, which is how the met. Moments after the match ended, someone very pissed off at Brown tried to shoot him, while his back was turned, but Jack tackled her before she got the chance. Brown was impressed by his courage and gave Jack the money Brown had won from him. A few months after that, they met by chance while Spades was trying his hand at gun play and proving pretty bad at it. Brown took pity on him and taught him the proper technique, after which Jack slowly improved under Brown's teaching.

No problem with that. However, how did this college student wind up in the company of a treasure hunter enough to earn a nickname from him?

The character concept looks good but it didn't really follow the signup template I gave. For example, you forgot to include equipment. Also, the backstory could use a bit more meat to it but that's totally optional.

Basically, just fix it to better fit the template and go more in depth with stuff and I'll consider you accepted

Is this Allies vs. Axis or every nation for itself?

Spades looks good to go. Although, why did he choose to go on this little expedition? An answer as simple as "For the adventure." will suffice. And, yes, it's Axis vs Allies. The same alliances that occured in the real world will still be in place in this RP.

Why is there an armed conflict over a museum piece? If it's really a powerful weapon, as I suspect it is, then why make it a museum piece?

There's not an armed conflict over the Lance perse. It's more like Hitler and Churchill and all the leaders of the world are sending agents or maybe a platoon or two to unearth this Lance. No one has fought over it yet, mainly because the other countries aren't certain as to who else is looking for it and because no one has found it yet.

World War II is happening for the same reasons as in the Real World and world leaders figure that a holy relic like the Lance could give their armies a major boost. Whether it really is magical or not is not yet known. And Brown wants it to be a museum piece because A) he'll make more money for it that way and B) He figures that, if the Lance really is that powerful, then its power can't be trusted in the hands of any mortal - even the Allies.

If you guys are stuck on character ideas, would you like me to post some possible character vocations or jobs on this expedition?

Do you have a rough idea of where the Lance is? I was thinking of maybe making a linguist, but knowing ancient Southern American or Eastern Asian languages would probably be useless if the Lance is somewhere in Africa.

I'm guessing we'll mainly be in Europe, though?

Yes, mainly in Europe. However, I can't promise you all won't end up on some other continents occasionally - however if you do, they'll most likely either be Northern Africa or somewhere in Asia.
