Given how to guy responsible for most of the story has left the company in the middle of developing the more story-heavy OW 2, this doesn't particularly bode well for the people who actually enjoy the story and storytelling of Overwatch.
Are there people who enjoy the story / storytelling of Overwatch? Because I mostly see people who enjoy complaining about the lack of storytelling in Overwatch.
Well, I was referring to the storytelling of Overwatch as a franchise rather than the game itself. The cinematic trailers, the comics, the short stories, etc. Perhaps I should've been more clear about that.
The people whom enjoy the storytelling are the same whom are complaining about the lack of it from what I have seen. The lore heavy people are the quickest to complain at lack of lore in most games that have storytelling.
I don't think Michael Chu was at all responsible for the glacial slow pace of OW's storytelling though. I am pretty sure that's due to internal battles going on in Activision Blizzard.
The story in OW 2 can possibly get effected by this though, too early to tell, but their is more writers than just Chu that were working on OW. If they lose most of the writer team then I'd be worried.

Huh damn they lost one of heir primary worldbuilders.
Goddamn is that not a good sign though his decision to leave is understandable.
I can imagine he either was not able to do not much work or all his ideas are constantly turned down for the most part.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Most of the more interesting part about Overwatch, to me at least, didn't come from Chu. It was mostly Metzen or Wong that did the more interesting stuff.
But i can't argue that he did have to handle to tough part of the being the face of the lore team. I bet he did a lot of work behind the scenes that is going to be shown, supposedly, in the sequel
Uni catThe lore and the characters are the only reason I gave overwatch a try in the first place because I liked it that much from the outside.
Then it turned out it was exactly as shallow as it could possibly be from the inside and that barely any effort went into it and I just stopped caring altogether somwhere in the three to four years I've owned the game.
Chu living would have been a bad thing to me three years ago. now it's just a thing.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I assume you mean "leaving" because otherwise your post has some terrifying implications about your opinion of Chu in the past.
woops, yeah, indeed, sorry about that. That's an unfortunate misspelling if I've ever seen one.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."The author of Baptiste's short story is taking his role apparently (Wong?). Reddit seems to think that's a good thing due to that short story being miles better than previous ones.
It's worth pointing out that it is also completely possible Chu has done all the work he's needed to do for OW 2 already.
Im not fussed either way, as it was gameplay that hooked me.
Also, Archives 2020 is live. I'm thinking I want me both Pharah and Ana's skins. Brigitte's cat is bigger than Tracer (and therefore also bigger than her dad).
Do we know who that is? (serious question)

The last founding member of Overwatch.
I think it's likely a teaser for Echo being revealed.
I kind of wonder if Echo essentially is Liao, or at least built on top of a direct copy of Liao's brain patterns.
If she is supposed to be Liao after being subjected to Brain Uploading then the name Echo makes a lot of sense.
It also mentions a "music" that the omnics hear. Could that be tied to the melody that Sigma hears? Did the accident made him borderline cybernetic?
Uni catThat was my initial speculation of Echo, that she was a brain scan of Laio put into a Vishkar omnic body, a while ago back when we first saw her in Ash's short. Mc Cree talks to her like she's an old friend and that would make the most sense with Liao whom is the only one of the founding members of Overwatch we know very little about.
It would be quite interesting if Echo is Liao. Would open up a lot of interesting implications if brain scans are a canonical thing.
Also, reading this little log to me definetly seems to support the Liao is Echo theory. The Athena project can very well be Liao working on brain scan technology and she seems very much in support of omnics anyways.

Well, that lends considerable weight to the idea that Echo is Liao, and before whatever happened in that audio, er, happened, Liao created a "backup", so to speak, of her consciousness in Echo's body. (Possibly before the time frame of that picture of "OG OW" with Morrison, Reyes, Ana, a pre-teen Fareeha, Mercy, McCree, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Sojourn, and the as yet unidentified guy with the mohawk.)
I am pretty sure Liao died in that recording or was really badly injured.
Or the recording is itself a disastrous attempt to do the brain upload.
Perhaps Echo was intended to be a straight copy of Liao's brain patterns, but something went wrong in the upload process and Liao died but the copy nevertheless seems to have gone through. Leaving it ambiguous, perhaps even to Echo, as to whether Echo is just a copy of Liao or actually is Liao.

That's the first time Omnica Corporation is ever shown to us and she was one of the pioneers in the omnic AI.
Uni catI'm going to switch to the cyclopian faceplate so fast.
Robots. Dont. Need. Faces.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireNo, but faces look cool
I missed the part where that's my problem.
Only time will tell, methinks.
