John Wick

Story wise, the series peaked in Chapter 2 as that's when the story mattered more than the action set pieces. It had 3 assassins over a 3 minute sequence try to kill John as a demonstration of the shit he has gotten in. With 3 and 4 that is basically the majority of the movies, which creates a lot of sequences that are more-or-less interchangeable. I call those type of movies a free-style guitar solo, they are throwing away a lot of structure and rhythm for the sake of showing off the upper limits of what what they can do. It can be a lot of fun, but you have to bring it down sometime.

For me, 1, 2, and 4 are all great at different things. 1 has the best story, 2 has the best worldbuilding, and 4 has the best fights. 3 just feels like a middle man between 2 and 4 and thus feels like filler even though it really isn't.

3 had the best villain imo. That might not be as important, but I do find it noteable.

Is that really different from saying "all John needs to do to beat the non bulletproof mooks is shoot them in the head?"

Look at all the extra time/shots John needed to put them down. Not that they were extremely skilled like Caine or Cassian, no.

But look at John. This situation was so desperate he had throw a gun at someone.

I just found it really repetitive after a while.

The fourth film was very similar to both the second and third films admittedly, outside of the second one having John forced to execute Gianna for Santino and the fourth one with the race to the duel (and the duel itself too).

Now that the search function is fixed I can actually find this thread, cool.

I just watched the first three movies for the first time a couple months ago, then the fourth one a few weeks ago. Fantastic movies, love the action and cinematography and lighting. I think 4 is maybe the most beautiful movie I've ever seen, in terms of visuals. Every frame was a painting, the cinematographer went insane for that one.

I think a fighting game would make a lot of sense for this franchise, like Tekken but every character has a gun. John would be like a combination zoner/grappler.

That's an idea. Even if the series already gave us an old school top-down shooter level in the Dragonshell scene, some of the most intense fights are one-on-ones.

I will said 1 work because John himself and it have memorable chararter like Viggo, it have a lot of big drama.

2 is indeed best story, specially as they put a bounty on him which put everyone against wick.

3 and 4 is when it start blurring, 3 have a better set up and story move better but 4 is where it show probably the best sequence whatsoever.
