On the topic of hero agencies, I still think the Pussy Cats would be a good fit for Koda. Both their area of expertise and property would be up his alley

What kind of cat would he be, though?

Since Gigantomachia appears to have shown up now, I figure this arc is almost over. Not totally sure how I feel this should end. I feel like it might feel like it'll end anticlimactically no matter what.

Huh, I wonder when that thing with Hawks is going to be followed up on.

For all his success, I've always considered Hawk to be one of the sadder characters in the series. But then, I'm pretty big on people having agency in their own lives.

He's not the worst one off by far, but he still had it rough.

It's why I wondered if Hawks could be swayed to the Meta Liberation Army's side. They seem closer to his desires than the current system or the League.

[up][up]I confess it took me a moment myself to remember the difference between Koda and Kota.

[up]How so? For all their talk, the Meta Liberation Army only really seems interested in helping people in one very specific way, and the consequences of that would create a much more oppressive society.

Whatever his start was, Hawks does seem to genuinely want to help people.

Whatever else they are, their ideal is a world where quirks are unrestricted, with the idea it would remove the need for heroes because the people would defend themselves like they're trying to here.

Hawks' desire is a world peaceful entry that heroes have nothing but free time, I've presumed so he doesn't have to be a hero anymore.

Phrase things right and I could see Hawks being at least tempted.

[up]No he means Heroes have so much free time because things are peaceful.

Though I could see where the idea would come from, I don't actually think what we've seen of Hawks is supposed to be "I don't really want to be a hero, so I'll make a world we aren't needed."

I do think he had much more pressure put on him on an early age than should have been, but I don't think we're supposed to take that as him not actually wanting to be a hero. It's like Shoto all over again. But, I guess we'll get clarification on this one way or the other later.

Yeah, remember that what got him noticed in the first place was using his quirk to save a bunch of people, and he already liked Endeavor enough to carry his doll around. It's not that he didn't want to be a hero, but that since childhood he was basically forced to be the best and didn't feel like he had any choice in the matter.

He doesn't think he can ever slow down or take a break the way the world is, and changing his heroism is unthinkable, so he wants to change the world to be better for people like him.

Unfortunately, a "peaceful" world could be defined as a "world without villains", meaning that they have to be "exterminated", somehow...

I don't think Hawks have really put enough thought into what his dream might end up entailing so it could become reality, things considered.

IniuriaTalis Since: Oct, 2014

And by "exterminated," you mean "arrested, reformed, or had their ideologies and circumstances respectively discredited and improved to the point that they would no longer be criminals," right? Because saying that you want a world without villains is like saying you want a world without homophobes or murderers or any other harmful group. It's not like they're a race, or innocent.

TitanJump Since: Sep, 2013 Relationship Status: Singularity

[up] The concerning part I was worried about was the possible option of illegally "brainwashing" the villains into becoming lawful and law-abiding citizens against their will if nothing else work out.

Not the actual death-penalty here.

Because sadly, some people are just incapable of changing to the better through conventional methods...

What on Earth gave you the idea that that was even a possibility? If they can't be reformed, they'll just be given life in prison like All For One. Which would be fair, because they're all responsible for many murders and terrorist actions.

The worst we've seen so far is imprisonment without trial.

I'm sure Hawks is under no such delusion that all crime can actually be eliminated forever. When people say things like that, it's best to recognize they're usually exaggerating and to pay more attention to the actual spirit of their words, and not any literal extremes.

[up] Well, I guess that's why it's called a "dream" for a reason.

It's never ever bound to come true in any way, shape, or form, beyond the imagination of one's own mind, disconnected from reality.

That's the sad part about "dreams".

They're not "goals".

Just personal "fantasies".

I say idolizing a Hero without wanting to be them is more right, because the way the past was framed Hawkes was forced to be a hero because people expected him to be one, and its precisely because he has been forced with expectations they've made clear he hasn't really wanted that he's done as he has so far, including becoming a Mole.

Because what do you do when these people effectively pay for everything to get you such a life? After all Endeavor dolls are also cheap, and the implication even is that his family likely wasn't well off...

Well, Hawks has actually said he'd prefer to be ranked in the 20s or 30s. But his skills coupled with the pressure probably don't actually allow that.

It reminds of something else I've seen with a character who became a doctor just because their father and all of their brothers were doctors. The character in question admits she got into the business for all the wrong reasons, but also lucked out because now that she's done it she honestly wouldn't want to do anything else.
