Pokemon Players are TIME LORDS!

You, the player, are a Time Lord. Each time you play through a different generation of Pokemon, that is going through the main story and not any extra content, you are going through your latest generation on a new adventure, your home is your TARDIS and your 'mother' is an AI that pilots it. Every Evil Team you fight is either an alien in disguised-like a Cyberman, Dalek, rogue Time Lord, or just a villain in general who want to take over the world. Your backpack is even bigger on the inside!

They could be Time Lords without TARDIS technology... and the Pokemon world is what's left of Gallifrey after millennia of war. Maybe the pocket monsters are Nth generation Doctor Who monsters that have d/evolved into more monster types than ever, like how the Macra ended up in "Gridlock" versus their original appearance. There's even the Time Capsule transfer method between Gen I & II.

Then again, in Gold/Silver you fight Red/Blue so that generation may be an exception, especially since you cannot transfer your pokemon from Gen II -> Gen III, though you can between every other generation.

Well, the buildings are Bigger on the Inside.
