Nice to see that the DLC is free. Also hoping we'll get more information on Darkest Dungeon 2 some time soon.
Watch a real team composition at work

According to the Darkest Dungeon website, The Butcher's Circus DLC has a release date of May 28.
This is the way. +1 for having the dog's eyes stare up adoringly at you.
Butcher's Circus was fun at first but having unlimited, fairly high healing and Deathblow resist starting off so high is starting to make every fight above the lowest tier last forever. I want quick, desperate matchups, not slugfests. This is Darkest Dungeon, combat should be deadlier.
Welp, started replaying Darkest Dungeon again after binging 40+ hours on DMC 5. I'm trying to figure out which upgrades I should prioritize for my town, as well as which District to use my first Blueprint on.
Disgusted, but not surprisedMan, forgot how addictive this game could be. Looking forward to its sequel.
One thing I don't quite like is how the Jester is almost mandatory in the Long Quests and in the Crimson Court. The stress piles up, especially if you have the bad luck of running into a wandering Ghoul or Madman (stupid Horror attacks).
Speaking of the Crimson Court...
- The "Exploration" team I use in the Court is a Vestal / Jester / Flagellant / Hellion team. Vestal for healing, Jester for Stress heals, Flagellant for Bleeds and healing, and Hellion for Damage and Stuns.
- I took the Baron out a while ago, though it cost me my sole Jester due to me not being able to heal him in time. This set me back considerably since I needed to train another Jester up to Legendary for the next Crimson Court quest. My setup was a basic Riposte team: Vestal for healing, Jester for Stress Healing, and a Highwayman and Man-at-Arms. It probably doesn't help that I tried to do the Baron quest in two tries as opposed to retreating right before the boss.
- I recently took out the Viscount, though I tried something new. This time around I gave the "Gatling Gun" setup a try: Vestal / Graverobber / Highwayman / Highwayman since the Viscount doesn't have a lot of HP and I figured trying to take him out quickly with powerful attacks like Point-Blank Shot was a good idea. I also had Duelist's Advance on the Highwaymen so they could riposte the Viscount too. This fight was considerably shorter and easier than the Baron. At no point were any of my characters in danger of dying or getting stressed out.
- Next up: the Countess...
After this I'll go after the Endless Harvest content. I already beat the Miller...after several tries that cost me multiple valuable Shieldbreakers. Friggin' Reaping...

Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd there goes the Countess. Holy shit was that harrowing. Here's the breakdown:
- Started off clearing the path before returning to the Hamlet. After I got another invitation I returned. I then backtracked to get firewood so I could camp.
- My party this time was Vestal kitted for healing, a Man-At-Arms for Bolstering and Guarding the Vestal and kitted for Stunning, a Flagellant for Bleeds and emergency Heals, and a Hellion for raw damage and Bleeds. All of them were Bloodlusted due to the Curse.
- Almost immediately off the bat things went wrong. The Bolster failed to buff the Vestal due to Bloodlust. Not a great start.
- My attempts to Stun her while she was Flushed also kept failing, meaning I had to put up with her third form frequently.
- The Stress piled up so badly that three out of four of my characters got Afflicted. Only the Hellion avoided being Afflicted. The Vestal being Afflicted with Irrational was particularly frustrating.
I eventually pulled through. Despite the setbacks, the Flagellant and the Hellion were able to pile on the damage and Bleeds, while the Man-At-Arms and Vestal still did their job of keeping the party alive. Still, my party was in such terrible shape Stress-wise that I didn't even try going for the two other C.C. trinkets in the dungeon. No way was I going to tackle a Crocodilian or make a long and perilous detour full of room fights with my party being on the verge of collapse.
Disgusted, but not surprisedOf the Crimson Court bosses (not counting the Crocodilian), the one I found most harrowing was the Viscount since he hits really hard. He was the one boss I needed a second try to defeat.
I don't recall the Countess being super tough, but she was definitely an epic fight.
Oddly enough, the only CC boss that actually cost me a party member was the Baron. I wasn't really prepared for the healing prevention mechanic.
With the Viscount I decided to just burst damage him and refrained from going after the bodies since I didn't want him to use too many moves actually attacking my party.
The real challenge with the Countess for me was the Stress. Fighting her with three Afflicted party members was, well, stressful.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI can't remember what I did to beat the Viscount, since it was a while ago. I think I eventually went with the "Bust him down as quickly as possible and actually bring people who can riposte" strategy, but I'm not sure.
I went into the Baron fight knowing about the "He can prevent you from healing" mechanic and that the Baron was going to have a lot of HP, so I just busted the eggs one-by-one so I wouldn't be overwhelmed. I definitely found the Baron easier than the Viscount.
After farming the Guardian for the rest of the C.C. trinket sets, I started farming for Ancestral Trinkets.
I kind of pushed my luck a bit far in one quest. It was a Long quest and I was still in the middle of it, when I noticed a Shambler's Altar. I still needed to kill it a few more times to get it to drop its unique Ancestor Trinkets. OTOH, I wasn't sure if I could beat it and finish the dungeon quest.
...I went and did it. It was actually kind of easy since I brought an Abomination along. The Abomination's Rake attack is perfect for taking out the two tentacles, especially since I got lucky with Crits (Abomination's Crit bonus is simply more damage). Shambler dropped the Map. I then went and finished the Quest, getting the Musketball.
I recently decided to start going into the Darkest Dungeon itself. Fun fact: the Shuffling Horror also drops one of the Shambler's unique Trinkets upon defeat (if you don't have them all). I got the Tentacle Idol from it. I guess that's because the Shuffling Horror is a Shambler, albeit a corrupted one. The team I used for my first forway was a Vestal, a Houndmaster, a Highwayman, and a Man-at-Arms. The Highwayman and Man-at-Arms were the most important players - their Ripostes made short work of the Horror.
I also went on another Long Quest hunting for the Thing in the Stars. The fun bit was that I not only encountered the Thing, I also ended up fighting the Collector later in the dungeon. Which was kind of bullshit. I beat'em both, but still.

Disgusted, but not surprisedApparently, someone's been animating the character comics. (the Falconer is, of course, a character mod rather than a canonical character)

Seems like the game's gonna be (at least) 2.5D, and it's an Epic Games Store exclusive.
Eeeeeeh, not surprising, I guess. Red Hook is still an indie dev, after all. They're the kind of people that would benefit most from Epic's MO.

I was surprised because I wasn't actually aware EGS had Early Access games, but a quick search showed I was just ignorant to that.
I was kinda sad to the 3D graphics to be honest, that sure indicates modding will be a higher bar to hurdle for people for the game.

How terrible.
It had better be temporary.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnSomeone who claims to be a Darkest Dungeon discord moderator (I'm not bothering to check) says that the Early Access will be EGS exclusive while the full release will also head onto Steam.
Oh, that's good then.
I didn't buy the game myself until it was almost out of Early Access anyway, so I guess it'll be fine.
But 2.5d, huh? Interesting, wonder how that will change the game up, considering the original was just 2D.
That's fine then, I don't mind if EGS players act as glorified beta testers.
"Sandwiches are probably easier to fix than the actual problems" -HylarnTrailer looks neat. I don't mind the Early Access version being Epic-exclusive so long as the full version is available elsewhere.
I'm really digging the designs I can make out in the beginning of the teaser. I can't wait to see what monster designs this game will have.
Of course the story also intrigues me. What happened that more corruption leaked out of the Dungeon once we closed it and killed the Heart? Unless it's related to that mountain we saw in the original reveal trailer.
You only beat up the Heart of Darkness. The rest of it is now waking up and is pissed off.
Seriously though, I too am curious about what the main antagonist of this game will be.
Oh thank goodness, deaths aren't permanent.
