Pretty Deadly. So, so amazing.
I'll do a fuller list another time. Probably after the new year starts, once I'm back on my own computer. But Pretty Deadly is easily my favourite.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Yeah, yeah, it's a Big Two book, and yeah, all the supporting characters pass the Idiot Ball around, but Superior Spider-Man has been my go-to comic this year. Never fails to be exciting, and the spin-off books are really good too.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]I love it also, but I have to go with Lazarus over Pretty Deadly. Both are fantastic, though. Lazarus just has better pacing, and while the plots are not particularly novel the execution is spectacular. That said, Lazarus has better characterization on all fronts. Three issues in and I'm still not sure of the point of Johnny, or the names of half of Fox's party. Five issues into Lazarus and not only has Forever been wonderfully built up, but so have the rest of her family (even outright antagonistic characters have been tinged with shades of depth). And the worldbuilding has been excellent.
Brubaker's Velvet is also very good, but it's only been two issues in so it's too early to tell.

Haven't been reading the independents this year, sadly. Captain Marvel has probably been the most overall good thing that I have read - in that the entire thing has been immensely satisfying, and that's without having gotten to read the final arc.
Superior Spider-Man has been a very fun ride, but a little less consistent in its awesomeness.
Hawkeye has been less consistent this year, but I'd estimate that it will, in hindsight, be the most influential comic that's being published today.
And Young Avengers is a thing of beauty, but I haven't read enough of the issues that came out this year due to trade-waiting.
Definitely The Wake. I haven't had a book so thoroughly surprise me every issue in...well, ever.
nyo ho hoWhile Pretty Deadly is still my top, I'll mention a few others I thought were fantastic.
Young Avengers was an awesome series, of course. Sharp writing, great art (with some amazing layouts all throughout), a fun story. Just great stuff.
Kathryn Immonen's run on Journey Into Mystery. It ended far, far too soon. It was fantastic stuff.
Captain Marvel. This was the most human book of the year, I felt. De Connick writes such wonderfully human characters. She does great dialogue, and the story was really nice throughout. She also did an awesome job on Avengers Assemble. (Speaking of, Al Ewing's fill-in issue of Assemble #15AU was also one of the best comics of the year. This was one of my absolute top moments of the year.◊)
X-Men has been excellent, with #4 as a stand-out issue. The whole series has been great, but that issue in particular was brilliant.
I'll mention more later.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Akinson, stop making junk threads if you don't intend to participate.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
What comics did you read this year that were your favorite?
