[up][up][up]We should be good to start. It's more that I don't have the OP for the RP thread ready, ehe.

[up][up]Your character's basic powers feel like a bit much to me.

I don't remember super speed being part of the standard phoenix legend for one thing. Also, could you give some clarification about this healing factor. As in, how strong is it? And...while I don't expect player characters to die, I don't really feel comfortable accepting a character whose basic powers include "instantly revives if he dies from anything other than natural causes with no drawbacks at all". Aside from the speed, the fused powers seem fine. As far as the summon goes, the only issues I have are the possibility of the heat making it impossible for anyone to attack it and, again, the instant resurrection with no drawbacks ability.

As for Hephaestus...given how vague "power rivaling those from myth" is, I don't know about the smithing ability. I'm not really sure about the terrakinesis in his fused form either, although I get the other two. On a similar note, I don't know about the earthquake powers, as I don't remember him being an earth god.

Overall though, I have to agree with Dblade, in that I'm not entirely sure what, aside from regeneration, the phoenix brings that Heph doesn't.

[up]Accepted.

Hmm. Fair points. I guess it was really just cuz they both build off of each other well, being similar, and yeah, the regeneration thing. I can nix Bell.

As far as the earthquake stuff, it's related to the Volcano stuff.

And a note on balance:

Hammer is pretty weak to illusionary type attacks, more mental magic than physical stuff.

Anyways, edited it so I got rid of Bell, does it look more sensible now?

I still can't accept such the smithing ability as it is, since "power rivaling those from myth" could mean anything from really good weapons to swords that cut through mountains to artifacts that grant immortality to a chair that kills anyone that sits on it instantly to...I'm pretty sure multiple countries' creation myths have weapons/artifacts as central elements. Basically, it's too vague at the moment.

Also, the problem with the "earthquakes as a secondary power from being a volcano god" idea is...earthquakes are part of Poseidon's domain.

True, but then again, studying these things in detail, the lines between domains gets a bit... blurred.

ALSO, edited phrasing for the crafting.

The earthquakes are more of a side-effect than anything

I really don't see any reason for him to have terrakinesis or earthquake creating powers when neither of those things are his domains and are in fact, part of another member(s) of the same pantheon's domains.

Okay, I'm not sure whether or not Vinny would have had to contract "I" before applying to the Academy or if he could have done it after, but other than that, here's what I've got.

Contractor

  • Name: Vincent "Vinny" Marten
  • Age: Seventeen and one half and one day. (Not OCD enough to count anything smaller than days.)
  • Appearance: 5' 10" Hates his blonde hair so he dyes it black. Elliptical glasses over green eyes, very proud of the ankle-length coat he almost constantly wears. Clothes are otherwise normal, nondescript t-shirts and the like. Always wears socks, weather and footwear style notwithstanding.
  • Personality: Quiet. Gets bored easily, and so keeps an array of office supplies in his coat to assuage said boredom. Not unfriendly, but not really a go-getter. Generally droll sense of humor, which often leads others to describe him as slightly morbid. (While he has the level-headedness for killing, he hasn't the level-handedness or the will/desire.) Can't decide if he doesn't care when you think he's wrong or if it bothers him deeply.
  • Clubs: Security Team (because of his level-headedness), Writing club, Honor Club, and generally known to fall in with the smoothie enthusiasts.
  • Brief Backstory: American. As the (almost always) smartest kid in his class, he got very tired of life in his typical American institution. After one of his great-uncles died, he crossed paths with a transplanted Cait Sith. His efforts to research the mysterious cat turned up pages about the Academy, and, looking for some sort of a respite from his average, boring life, he applied. That was four years ago. Today he lives an entirely new life in the ranks of Covenant Academy, where he isn't always the cleverest in his class.
  • Contracts: Cait Sith, "I", and hellhound, Cuthbert.

Contract 1

  • Name: "I", as in "I am a cat, idiot."
  • Type: Cait Sith, witch-cat of the Highlands.
  • Personality: "I" enjoys being aloof, talking in riddles, and generally being unhelpful while humoring "I"self. Can use human speech on account of being a transformed witch, although cat instincts can override even this ability.
  • Powers: Grants Vinny the ability to sense sources of heat through walls as well as partial night vision.
  • Fusion: Very obvious. Vinny suddenly has a lot of black hair on the backs of his arms, a black cat's tail, ears, and an odd shine to his eyes. In this state he has complete night vision as well as sharp reflexes and a strange urge to chase anything that looks like a string. DO NOT APPROACH WITH CATNIP unless you feel like being bodily tackled by a cat-man.
  • Summon: "I" looks like a very large black cat (head comes up to Vinny's waist) with a white spot on its chest. Has a very sharp sense of where to find fresh corpses in a ten-mile radius, can of course see in the dark and react very quickly, and (if "I" so desires) can transform into a generally less useful—but less catlike—witch form. (This hardly ever happens.) Seems to have one goal and one goal only—stealing souls from corpses.

Contract 2

  • Name: Cuthbert (well, that's what Vinny calls him)
  • Type: Hellhound, in the same vein as Cerberus
  • Personality: Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy
  • Powers: Bequeaths Vinny the ability to run as fast as if he had four legs, and a tendency to smell disgusting but be very warm.
  • Fusion: Turns Vinny's eyes red and pops black pads onto his hands and the bottoms of his feet. In this state he can set things on fire by howling, becomes almost too hot to touch comfortably, and can run at almost forty miles an hour, although this has a horrible withdrawal after the fusion has ended.
  • Summon: Cuthbert looks something like a black greyhound. He is enormously fast, faster than even a real greyhound, and dangerous to both look at and touch. Look into his eyes thrice, and your death is imminent. Touch him, and your skin goes up in flame. When he's on the trail he is very serious, but otherwise is a big lug. Amplifies Vinny's normal powers considerably. Has been banned from several buildings on account of burning them down with his howl.

[up][up]Probably. I just need to work out this opening post, ehe.

[up]Well, firstly, I'm not sure how he would've crossed paths with the cait sith, given that magical beings don't live in the human world and can't exist there unless they're summoned by their contractor.

I'm not too sure about the hellhound's summon abilities. Specifically the "Look into his eyes thrice, and your death is imminent." and "Touch him, and your skin goes up in flame." parts. The first one is not something I can allow in any way and the second...I don't mind him radiating heat and being difficult to attack physically because of it, but it seems to be a bit too much at the moment.

Hmmm...well, perhaps Vinny got interested in otherworldly things on a trip to Scotland and subsequently contracted "I" just to see if he could do it.

As for Cuthbert, I'll cut the bit about looking into his eyes, and just make him too hot to touch with bare skin (in other words, around stovetop/oven temperature, not enough to melt metal).

  • Name: James Washington
  • Age: 17
  • Appearance: A light-skinned African American male, a bit on the pudgy side, especially by Japanese standards, but not overwhelmingly so. Otherwise, his build is naturally stocky and wide, which downplays the fact that he's around six feet tall. As far as clothing goes, he goes for comfort and simplicity, usually sporting a hoodie and jeans.
  • Personality: It wouldn't be reaching to say that James is a bit of a bastard. Not hard, or overtly harsh towards the world around him, but smug, and always sure to get his own way in the end. If that involves cooperating peacably for some amount of time, so be it, but he'll even make it clear that self-interest is his greatest motivator. Usually carries a flamboyant, but ambiguously threatening air about him, likely cultivated rather than unintentional. Manipulative, given the oppurtunity, but not always above outright thuggery if he thinks the benefits outweigh the risks.
  • Clubs: founder of the Apiarist (beekeeping) club, Campus Brightening Club, Wrestling club
  • Contracts: Set/Seth

  • Contract Name: Set/Seth
  • Contract Type: God
  • Personality: Where order exists, chaos lies in absence. Where light shines, shadow loiters just beyond it's periphery. Where there are clear skies, elsewhere there must be storms. Set the the living realization of these truths, but the bastard could stand not to enjoy his position as much as he does. To strip away the prose, there's a reason that James likes him.
  • Powers: As far as baseline powers go, James can toss bolts of destructive elemental energy, like lightning bolts, or shards of ice at his enemies. The power behind these attacks increases slightly with the destruction already incurred, or the panic spread.
  • Fusion: In this form, James head transforms to that of the Set animal, his overall frame becoming more bony and emaciated. His offensive abilities escalate to the summoning and manipulation localized storms, be it lightning, rain, hail, or sand. These storms are less discriminate in their capacity for destruction, which may at times be more of a liability than an asset. Otherwise he's allied and can summon nearby creatures that induce disgust and fear, like snakes, spiders, wasps scorpions, sharks etc.
  • Summoning: Not a looker, I'll tell you The aforementioned powers over storm and panic become what could legitimately be called a 'directed natural disaster', with much less input on James's part as to how that power is applied. Seth can now form hordes his repulsive creatures from the very shadows themselves to harass and tear at his enemies. Horus help us all.

Firstly, I am expecting a large portion of this RP to be interaction based, so I'm not sure how well your character will go with that.

Secondly, I'm not sure about the summon's ability to "form hordes his repulsive creatures from the very shadows themselves". Mainly due to the fact that with such a vague limitation on where he can call them from, it seems like he could summon a legion of poisonous/otherwise extremely lethal creatures out of an opponent's shadow in a way that makes defending themselves basically impossible.

As far as James personality goes, it's not my intention to have him strutting around and kicking puppies in broad daylight and such. Sarcastic, mocking, and occasionally brutal, yeah, but not the cartoonish level of dickery that makes basic human interaction impossible.

As far as the shadow-swarm bit is considered, I see how that can be an issue. Maybe if the swarm moved in sort of a homogenous mass, making them easier to attack? Instead of having them, say, attack the opponent from every which way, Like columns of bats, or giant whips made from snakes, something dodgable/intercept-able. Intense and/or holy light could be set as a weakness, in any case.

Replacing Miyoko with...

  • Name: Yuuto Emi
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Seconds away from hiding behind her sister.
  • Personality: Shy, only talking to people if either of her big-sister figures seem to get on with them, and then only about harmless things. A lot of this is probably because she doesn't go to non-practical classes—trying to teach Emi is fruitless, because she already knows it, or can know it at a moment's notice—and instead she works on either making food or reading stories in the library.
  • Clubs: President of the Cooking Club.
  • Brief Backstory: When she was still pretty young, Emi's parents moved away due to business reasons, leaving her in the care of her older sister, reasoning that anyone who wanted to become a teacher could do with experience looking after someone younger than them. This explains why she's so attached, at least.
Meanwhile, earlier in the year, she met Momo when she joined the Cooking Club... and when it turned out that the previous president had graduated, and Momo didn't want the position... it fell to Emi.
  • Contract(s): Salmon of Wisdom, Claire the Basilisk

  • Name: The Salmon of Wisdom.
  • Type: Very Lucky Fish
  • Personality: Self-absorbed in the extreme, and pompous to boot. Emi generally doesn't talk to it, being intimidated by the fish's attitude and not having much to say with it. The fish doesn't really care. Self-absorbed, after all.
  • Powers: Access to all human knowledge, mentally. It's easier to find what she's looking for if she has more information on it—this makes exam questions incredibly easy, because she can just find the exact answer. More general applications give a lot more information to trawl through.
It gets used as the world's best collection of recipes, mostly.
  • Fusion: Emi becomes a mermaid! Unfortunately, whilst this confers the ability to breathe underwater, it doesn't help with moving above water. Great way to deal with cold, though—once or twice, she's used it when the room around her was freezing and she didn't have much else to do.
  • Summon: This fish knows all martial arts. It is the closest that anything shall ever come to the carp from Dwarf Fortress' earlier versions. It is, however, still a damn fish.

  • Name: Claire
  • Type: Basilisk
  • Personality: It isn't that intelligent, but it does display a surprisingly maternal attitude towards Emi.
  • Powers: It appears that the basilisk's infamous death vision... is laser beams. That is, Emi can shoot lasers from her eyes. She sometimes uses them for cutting food.
  • Fusion: Naga! Well, snakey bottom half, at least. Whilst it slows Emi down quite a lot, it allows her to just... drip poison, forming clouds of what acts more like a corrosive acid. Being bitten would be even worse.
  • Summon: Picture this thing, but big enough that it wouldn't take any effort to swallow a person. It is an enormous, gargantuan serpent that breathes poison and stares lasers. It's also therefore completely unsuitable to summon, ever, in a populated area, because it wrecks stuff just by being around.

Human

  • Name: Hoshi Himura
  • Age: 16
  • Appearance: Very long, wavy, pitch black hair. Large chest, toned body. Piercing ice blue eyes. Average height. Usually wearing kimono.
  • Personality: Lazy. First and foremost, lazy. She can be very... lascivious at times, and gets a huge kick out of teasing the more shy of her friends. Also enjoys pranks, but nothing lethal. The one time she'll ever get serious is if one of her friends has been threatened - at that point, it's best to start running. Usually chewing on one of those thin, artistic pipe things.
  • Clubs: Founder and President of the Campus Brightening Club
  • Contracts: Chizuru

Contract

  • Name: Chizuru
  • Type: Kitsune, more specifically a kyubi.
  • Personality: Bouncy and energetic, she's a very happy-go-lucky kinda girl. Enjoys pranks and teasing just as much as, if not more than, her contractor.
  • Powers: Hoshi has minor illusion abilities, only able to affect other's perceptions of her. She can throw very small balls of foxfire, and is abnormally fast and nimble.
  • Fusion: Hoshi sprouts fox ears and a tail, while her hair turns golden blonde. She becomes even faster and more nimble, as well as being able to transform into a fox the size of a wolf. Her illusion powers are increased, now able to affect other's perceptions of their surroundings, as well as herself. Her foxfire abilities are increased as well.
  • Summon: Chizuru looks like an older, blonde version of Hoshi. She wears a pair of ripped denim short-shorts, and a tank top. She also has fox ears and nine tails. She can transform into the wolf sized fox as well, this one also having nine tails. Her illusion magic is amazingly powerful, able to fool all but those with the highest intellects and finest senses - same manner as before, but they become harder to dispel/pierce through. Her foxfire becomes hot enough to melt through most metals quickly. She is very very fast.

Okay, um...as far as the contractor goes, 16 year old + usually smoking isn't a combination the academy's likely to allow. Also, is "will someone die from this" really where she draws the line with her pranks? That seems a little extreme to me.

For the contract, I'm going to need a bit more for this illusion power than "amazingly powerful", since that could mean anything from borderline mind control to so real that they can cause physical damage to tricks all five senses, even if you know you're under an illusion you can't do anything about it and you're pretty much at the user's mercy unless the writer is on your side. Also, just a couple of things about the summon's appearance...they'd be a fox that turns into a person, not the other way around and...you seem to have described a kyuubi (kyuu = nine, bi = tails) with one tail...Also, I'm really not sure about a kyuubi in the RP.

Also, yes, when summoned her default form is the fox form, she just prefers being in human form.
