Hah, yes, that light caught me out, as I recall! I've actually been somewhat impressed that a few let's players guessed in time what it was.

As to the creature at Tau, if I'm thinking of that same place, then yeah—I really didn't like that one. It just seems to show up near your location, no matter how sneaky you are. (In fact, I wasn't a huge fan of the AI in this game in general. The Tau creature was just particularly annoying.)

I suggest that you try to keep moving, taking chances to slip past behind it when given. You may find that you can draw its attention elsewhere to a limited degree by throwing items in order to make a noise.

Yeah, it seem inexorably drawn to your location no matter what you did. Make a sound? It come running. Look at it? It come running. Try to sneak around? It come running. Try to hide in a dark corner all silent and still and stare at a tiny dark speck of the corner? IT COME RUNNING. Like sweet geezus, it was inescapable!

Thankfully, the way to get around it, I found, was to be bold and make circles around it's area. Opening and closing doors, throwing shit around, etc. All while you're waiting for the MAIN door to open up to get you TF away from it's area. I went back and reread a FAQ saying there was more story beats and notes, etc. to find in this area for more lore, but screw that noise! That's nonsense!

Anyway, the rest of the game went without a hitch and it ended up being quite exciting up until the end when the dawning realization kicked in on what was actually going to happen. Expected, but no less heartbreaking. Either way, excellent game, despite its flaws. I'm glad I picked it up (for free!) and went in literally 100% blind, not even knowing what genre the game even was!

I'm glad that you seem to have enjoyed it so! ^_^

I'll confess that I found the ending—before the Playable Epilogue—a little frustrating, specifically in Simon's reaction to not entering the Ark.

Still, overall I likewise found it to be a very good game, I think, and with some rather good characters. ^_^

Going back through after some time away. This time I'm doing 'Safe mode' where monsters can't kill me. Because I want to explore every nook and cranny of each level and explore all the lore without having to fear for my life, you know?

So, I've begun playing SOMA. I've gotten as far as actually seeing one of the monsters after speaking with Chun yesterday.

I noticed that the helmet that was on me in Upsilon said "Robot Interface User".

I presume this is supposed to come back later with more significance?
