That sounds like it would make a good fic. I could definitely believe Rarity being So Beautiful, It's a Curse.

Also, not having Rarity suddenly turn lesbian just for the sake of the ship is probably a good call. After all, the reverse of that would have some rather unfortunate implications.

...also, a thought just occurred to me.

     More Ficcy Nonsense
Twilight/AJ was the central ship for my Verse, and one of the stories I had in mind was going to be about Twilight attending an Apple Family Reunion and having trouble fitting in due to the extended family's reverence towards this Alicorn Princess who's just sort of present at their gathering.

This reunion would be attended not just by Twilight and AJ, but also by Pinkie Pie (because the Pies are a branch of the Apple family) and by Rainbow Dash. Why Rainbow Dash? Because of a bit where AJ, Twilight, and Pinkie mention to their friends that they'll be busy with the reunion.

  • Rainbow Dash: Wait, you're both going to this?! AJ, your family is gobbling up this group. Ten years from now, are we ALL going to be going to this?!
  • Pinkie Pie: Do you want to? You can be my date!
  • Rainbow Dash: ...okay, I know what I just said, but I actually do want to go.

So we wind up with AJ, who is an Apple. Twilight, who is becoming an Apple. Pinkie, who is technically an Apple. And Rainbow, who felt left out.

This bit is actually really funny in hindsight, given the actual canon ending of the show.

I've actually got one myself that I was intending to set in the post-series Equestria. It's shipping though, and OC and...sort of canon? It's a Gen 4 version of Firefly that's been altered, essentially.

I wish I was better at writing. A couple years ago, I started writing a fanfic, but I only got a couple chapters in before abandoning it.

I'm in the fifth writing attempt of a Conversion Bureau/Warhammer 40000 deconstruction crossover, and I lost track of how many reattempts my current take on a FIO fic I've been writing since 2014 has been.

If nothing else, I am certain of the fact these will be the last times I try and reboot them.

I had a Fallout Equestria fanfic I was writing years ago. But yeah, I'm terrible at it. I never ever seem to word myself right regarding anything.

Having subjected myself to that video because I'm admittedly shipping trash- and acknowledging that "Know thyself" is a valid point even if it apparently takes 20 minutes of smug name-calling to get across- I have just one question...

...what in the blue flu does that have to do with Discord's Villain Song?

Speaking of shipping: you know how Apple-Dash was written in the finale so it was just hinted at? Well, Lyra and Special Agent Sweetie Drops got way more then hints.

It's all in the background, sure, and they never kiss, but it's hard to see this as anything other than a marriage proposal, and this doesn't leave much room for interpretation, either.

That's been pretty well acknowledged. I think it just doesn't come up much because we haven't seen much of their actual characters and there's nothing toxic to pick at.

True, but I remember posters telling Tobias (who still hasn't seen the finale) about how much it sucked that once again a same-sex couple is only implied to get together (whether or not you like that couple notwithstanding). Since the discussion had shifted to shipping, I thought it would be nice to bring up that at least one such couple almost certainly got together.

Yeah, that's pretty cute. Lyrabon's a great ship.

So's Appledash, really. They're very competitive towards one another, but that's because they're both very competitive ponies, so it fits. I never particularly cared for Rarijack, but I've got no complaints about Appledash being canonized.

Both characters always seem like they legit enjoy each other's company, and like they mutually get something out of their relationship with one another that they don't get from anyone else in their circle of friends.

I’ve been “eh” on making the naturally rainbow-haired tomboy out as a lesbian, or even bi. Every god damn one else, up to and including the ultra feminine socialite that’s only every showed interest in men, sign me the fuck up, but the living lesbian stereotype makes me uncomfortable actually making a lesbian.

Like, if she dyed her hair, that’d be one thing, but her hair is naturally that color (and her culture seems to only barely have gender norms) and that has uncomfortable implications for me.

Also, if the sleep over episode showed a lot of people why Rarijack wouldn’t work, the Running Of The Leaves showed me why Appledash ends in them killing each other.

[up][up][up][up]Nothing. It's Lily's theme for her Glass of Water videos, that's all.

Because, believe it or not, her videos are supposed to be child friendly. Yeah, I know. But she has criticized reviewers for putting very inappropriate music in their MLP review vids, so there you go.

The most telling thing is that Rainbow Dash has been explicitly canonized as not a lesbian many years ago, in response to exactly this sort of pigeonholing due to her tomboy nature and hair colour. I had the same reservations, but then again, I'm hardly going to protest her being a lesbian, either.

And sure, Lyrabon was there in the background, but that's easy enough to miss, and it is two characters who almost never appear in the foreground, let alone speak. When we say we want an actual canon lesbian couple on a show, we mean with major characters that have speaking roles, and who are more than Freeze-Frame Bonus easter eggs for the fans.

So the name was coincidence then, which I thought at first as well before hearing the music... I know jack about the series or anything else she's done (beyond some implications that it's kind of rich for her to call anyone else toxic), so I really couldn't tell.

I know, it's still not what we'd like, but hey, doesn't mean you can't point out the silver lining. Especially when it's from a show meant primarily for very young girls, where it's still mostly unheard of (Steven Universe is great, but it's also meant for more of a tween crowd).

She started doing her "Glass of Water" series around season four, and it was then primarily focused on analyzing My Little Pony. She's expanded her scope since then, with the title, lyrics, and obvious Golden Oak Library background becoming artifacts of the series's origins.

And yes, she can be very abrasive, which is part of her charm for her fans and an easy target to pick on for her detractors. For me, I haven't always agreed with everything she said, but I always find her perspective interesting to listen to, and have at times found myself reconsidering my own opinions based on the points that she makes.

I'm sorry, but I think she's just too caustic and myopic for the legitimate points she does make to be worth slogging through. (Not that they make those points any leas legitimate)

I agree on that somewhat, though she has pointed out that showing justified anger should not be criticized as being overly caustic. And given the sort of topics she tends to talk about, I have to agree that these are indeed things people could stand to be a lot angrier about.

Also, to be clear, part of it is her persona as a Caustic Critic, which were a dime a dozen a decade ago. The real Lily is much nicer and more of a goofball, though I do not doubt she's not shy about her opinions in real life, either. There's no faking being outspoken, after all.

Now, I suppose you and Lily have a point, and I definitely agree with the notion that justified anger should be shown, and yet I also feel like there's a point where certain displays of anger, no matter how justified, cease to be productive, and Lily (or, at least her public persona) has crossed that line.

Quite. There's a set of lyrics from the musical "Into the Woods" that always spring into my head whenever she locks horns with other analysts over her tone.

  • You're so nice.
  • You're not good, you're not bad, you're just nice.
  • I'm not good, I'm not nice, I'm just right.
  • I'm the Witch. You're the World.

That's pretty much my brain's theme for Lily.
