Needs Help: Date Rape

While I edited up the description on Date Rape to reflect a more modern understanding (and the proper term used for such rapes being "Acquaintance Rape" rather than "Date Rape" (because while some acquaintance rapes happen on dates, many don't) the trope name itself, IMO, needs to be changed.

The trope should be renamed Acquaintance Rape for accuracy and encompassing the actions and scenarios covered under it (and therefore also get more examples, as well as be more accurate) and Date Rape should be left as a redirect, since many people might still search for it and it's still a common term.

(edit: New to the forums, and have no idea why my title did that. just bugs me?)

Well, welcome to the TRS, mate.

Anyhow, Wikipedia uses Date rape and that's the term I have always heard so I am not positive on a rename.

Stats, by the way: 70 wicks, 53 inbounds and 19 on-page examples.

"Acquaintance Rape" is a term I've never heard before, and even if it's more accurate (which I'm dubious about) it's more awkward to use and the big, soft word "acquaintance" coming before actually softens the impact of the word "rape".

I think the name should stay as it is.

okay :) I'm cool with that. I've just seen the term "acquaintance rape" used more than "date rape" in the modern sense of someone the victim knows (either romantically or via other means) or meets being the rapist.

I'm sorry if I caused any problems and apologize for being a bother :)

You didn't cause any problems that I can see, and you even tagged the page properlysmile.
