To get the locators to get the Grendel parts, you have to collect Vitus Essence in Arbitration. At least Arbitration has better rewards and can drop 1 essence randomly every round. Is that new? It's been a while since I've played Arbitration.

I bought one of the locators, got a "Snowfields of Rhigga" mission, and it's... weird. Doesn't seem like anyone else can play it with me, can't use Operator mode, and I think all my mods are disabled? I'm using my endgame kit and getting slaughtered by level 40 enemies. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Haven't encountered a Lich yet.

[up] I haven't gotten the Grendel keys yet, but I know the devs mentioned that the missions for his parts would restrict what equipment you can use.

The wiki added an explanation of the missions.

Purchasing a Locator will permanently unlock the unique mission associated with it, which guarantees the associated Grendel component as a reward. These missions will have level 40-45 enemies, however players will be unable to use their Gear items, all Warframes and weapons will not benefit from any equipped Mods, and Operators cannot be used. The only exception to these rules are Warframe Augment Mods and Arcanes, whose effects still work.

I genuinely don't know how to handle that—especially alone. Unless I've just been having bad luck with no one being available when I try to run them.

So I've been roped into Warframe...again, technically - as I first made an account about 16 months ago but took a year-long off-time. I have many questions, but just a few that's most pressing to me:

  • I can only deal damage with my SMG ("Braton", I think?). My sidearm semi-auto pistol deals pretty much no damage and I've been told I shouldn't use MK-1 weapons, which my melee weapon (staff/"Bo") is. How do I replace them and what should I replace them with?
  • What do I do with a Kubrow? Do I really need to take care of it 24/7 like I do an IRL dog, as implied by the loyalty and health gauges?
  • What do I do in "cities" like Cetus on Earth? What do I do on places like the Plain of Eidolon?

[up] The Mk-1 weapons are decent when you're starting out, but they'll be replaced pretty quickly. Go to the market and see what weapons you can buy blueprints for.

Your Kubrow can be taken on missions with you and will attack enemies and do other things dictated by the mods you give it. You don't need to take care of them 24/7; the health gauge depletes by 5% every day, but that's just bonus health; nothing bad happens if it runs out. As for loyalty, it decays every day that you don't log in, as well as when your kubrow dies in combat. Like the health gauge, nothing bad happens if it runs out, and you can pet your kubrow to fill it back up.

If you still have Mk-1 weapons, you're probably not ready to do anything in Cetus or Fortuna. Skip them for now.

When you're just starting out, your goal should be to fill out the star chart, complete missions as you acquire them, and use weapons you can buy off the market with credits. Don't forget to upgrade your mods; you will be useless without them. (they recently released a couple "no mod" missions, thus reminding the entire playerbase just how useless our kits are without mods)

You'll need to join a clan eventually to get the better blueprints and whatnot, but you don't need to worry about that right this second.

Alright then.

As for EXP (or whatever it's called in this game, there's too many things to pay attention to), I have no idea how so many people I ask have multiple capped...things...(apparently L30) when my own things have been progressing so very, very slowly.

And as for the weapons to replace my shitty peashooter and to-be-obsoleted Bo...there's so many choices I don't know which one I should start with. Nevermind where to get the resources for each.

EDIT: [up] How far can I go through the star chart before I REALLY need to upgrade? I've opened Earth, Venus, and Mercury.

Also...mods? I saw it in the accessories menu (I think) but there's so many mods and I only have so little currency to upgrade them ("Endo"? Man, playing this game is like needing to learning a second language)

So how are the melee changes so far? Anything that works nice or not in Update 26?

I intend to come back next month. I miss my tibby prime

I should probably try to come back myself at some point. I've been playing Destiny 2 for basically a year now and I'm starting to burn out from all the FOMO and everything. It'll be nice to finally explore the Orb Vallis a bit more, make some progress, get the last stuff in the Plains, etc.

but HOW?

[up][up][up] Your mods should be as upgraded as possible. Is the mod tutorial still terrible? Short version: You need credits and endo to upgrade mods. You get credits by completing missions and selling stuff (and you need credits for basically everything), you get endo by dissolving duplicate mods or occasionally as mission rewards (and it is only needed for mods).

[up][up] New melee seems good, though I can't figure out how to channel any more. Maybe my custom keybinding got wiped in the update. Combos stack faster, and now there's a little timer showing you how long until your combo resets. So that's nice.

[up] Orb Vallis is definitely great, they just launched the Kuva Lich system which seems interesting, and the big spaceship update is estimated to be coming out before the end of the year.

There's no more channeling, Discar. At all. They replaced that with a heavy attack you make with the former Channeling button.

And once again: rip maiming strike.

Rest in pepperoni.

Now it's the multiplicative bonus, at least it's +150%.

Bad news? For whips, it's only good for Atterax now.

Strange, I checked the changes like yesterday ago.

It's changed from additive buff to a stacking buff but base functionality increased from +90% to +150%

Right off the bat, I'm not really feeling the melee update.

A few moves here and there are fancier, but otherwise I don't really see that much of a change.

Having the "heavy" attack on a dedicated button is definitely a good thing, but Warframe still feels miles behind dedicated melee games like Monster Hunter, Soulsborne or even Nier: Automata.

I like that I can actually use all of the combos for each stance now. I could never get the timing for hold or wait combos down, especially not when I'm trying to learn different weapons that have different attack speeds. But now, I can actually dash forward with Tempo Royale and do the spin attack with Cleaving Whirlwind.

Also, pro tip: Don't use the standing heavy attack. It's slow and doesn't have much range. Instead, you should use the aerial heavy attack, which works exactly like a standard slam, but with a better radius. It's a lot faster than the ground one, and I'm pretty sure it hits in a wider area too.

Did they balance riven dispositions for melee?

Gram's been 5/5 for the longest.

I don't have Tempo Royale but I do have Cleaving Whirlwind and I love to spin at almost every given opportunity.

They haven't touched melee rivens yet, but they're going to be included with the riven tweaks they do with every new Prime Access now.
