…Looking at the chart, I'm more impressed that the series was already smashing the 100k threshold in its first week 2 volumes in.

But anyway, even if I don't read the series it is pretty sad to see it drop like this.

Anyone knows the original source for the Oricon chart? I want to see if the numbers improve as time goes by, just out of curiousity

Chapter out. Given that he's had at least one opponent for each of the other cuisines (Takumi's Italian, Kuga's Chinese, Hayama's Indian, and Shinomiya's French) it feels weird that this theme is happening without Soma ever facing a Turkish chef, unless I'm forgetting someone.

I don’t think even a consultant could come up with a dish that combines all 5 attributes.

Seems more like a feast really.

Also man still doubting Soma even at this point in the game. Always annoying when villains do that.

At least we got a little bit of cooking tips this time around...

And to be fair, Soma is following the theme closer than "Assashi", since his idea is truly unique...(but without the consultant, I am dreading over what this might become when served...)

End already.

You've long since let me down series.

...well, ok I let myself down. I'm still here despite no longer enjoying it.

I guess I just don't learn.

Seeing reflections of earlier fights in the arc, tho. The whole "multiplication versus addition" concept was already used earlier during that mini-mart phase, and in sharp contrast to last chapter's notable subversion of the Shonen Flashback, this one is *earned* and actually makes sense in context. I mean heck, Souma demonstrating supreme skill in cooking speed/timing has been a consistent trait since the training camp. If anything, cooking absurdly more food than his opponent feels like the most well established way Souma could have to win this. We even see a glimpse of what I offered before with Souma's 'practice' over Asahi's 'power' being noted as potentially just better, which yes is following the series creedo of practice beating natural talent. Give the current arc and it's villain shit all you like, but taken on it's own this chapter is *good* by any standard of Food Wars set before.

The thing is, this is a sequential work where you're supposed to read each chapter after the other. This is a battle chapter that is majorly informed by the battle it's in, the stakes, and the opponent. Because of that, you can't really take a chapter like this on its own without considering the arc around it.

ITT: Asahi dooms himself by being first to be done/serve, even though both dishes are revealed at the same time.

Also, I get that they're trying to say that Soma's hard work, determination, sheer grit, and his ability to just. keep. pushing. is going to be what gets him the W here, but that's hard to swallow when he's against literal magic abilities.

There are actually several matches where the person who goes first wins. That's not an ironclad rule.

True, but it's usually the trend. Or there are exceptions like some secret transformative factor that is only revealed after both dishes have been tasted. It's not 100% though or else man, that would be really boring.

I'm actually curious on how Soma's dish is actually going to work and if the author, for ONCE since the leave, actually have called the consultant for some advice on how to make it a real-life dish, as a kind of "apology" to the culinary readers out here.

Seriously, we deserve at least that much.

They did the "Souma's opponent is so great, he stands no chance!" routine again.

At least with how rushed this is, we'll probably see Asashi defeat this month.

This chapter isn't that bad in a vacuum and reminds me of older times. Unfortunately, it's surrounded by everything else bad about this arc, so it's hard to give it any real credit.

Chapter's out.

Asahi goes first and even Mana can eat his cooking, which is a shock to no one at this point I'm sure. The argument that 'you couldn't get five different chefs to work in concert to make this' is pretty weak if you ask me, but at this point it's like pointing out a hole in a boat when half the stern has been ripped off.

Really? A pie that has everything in it. Oh for the love of mayonnaise, you can not get any simpler or lazier or than that.

Premium top of the line cuisine my ass. My mayonnaise, ham, & cheese sandwiches are more clever than that. At least I put a cheese sausage in the middle of it.

Hmmm, interesting theory has popped up.

People are thinking that Mana is actually eating Soma's dish. Because she never specifically asks for Asahi's dish, she uses chopsticks as opposed to a spoon like Asahi asked, what she's eating is never shown, and it's only just judges that claim that her disrobing ability is kicking in due to Asahi's dish.

That's actually slightly interesting, wonder if that will turn out to be the case.

I can't wait to next week to see the smug grin on Asahi's face get rubbed off in the pavement...

Ya know what makes the Asahi shilling even more amusing and/or annoying is when people who actually have cooking know how point out that the methods or even tools he's using is absolutely nothing special.

Like the judges are basically sucking his dick for him knowing something any culinary student would know.

Huh, apparently shark fins themselves have no umami, so that's kind of a glaring oversight on the writers part.

With how things have been lately not sure how many people will care about details like that, but it is kind of sad that in a chapter actually talking about cooking one of the things they're praising Asahi for is apparently just wrong.

TitanJump Since: Sep, 2013 Relationship Status: Singularity
#12199: Apr 21st 2019 at 10:23:17 PM

[up], It's those moronic claws, that's where the unami came from.

That aside, I am starting to suspect that it's the placebo effect in play here, meaning that Asahi's food only tastes good due to all the hype and reputation that surrounds him beforehand, meaning that it's the people who eats the food that makes them imagine that it tastes better than it actually does.

It's all a con and a hoax on his part.

And Soma is the real deal.

Shark fin doesn't really have any flavor iirc. It's in the dish for the texture.
