[up]Columbia definitely had a lot to do with it ("Dynamite" seems to have been a Ron Perry & Jenna Andrews project) and there's definitely a bittersweet aspect to their first and so far biggest #1 hit being an English song with silly lyrics instead of their trademark lyricism, but the idea that "Dynamite" was a "troll move" is at least somewhat debatable. Every single comment BTS have made about the song has been about genuinely liking the English demo, about none of their attempts at writing Korean lyrics working well in capturing the feel of the original, and particularly about how they found it important to have a fun song to cheer people up in this current year.

That Vox article, which is more of an opinion piece, is also controversial among the fandom at best - especially considering how "Dynamite" was put in BE and how music video and performances of "Dynamite" also genuinely pay tribute to the disco genre, with even a featured article in their in-house magazine at Weverse highlighting the history of disco and what meaning it could add to "Dynamite" in the context of COVID-19, which make it all being a giant troll move harder to believe (though it could be considered a strategic move, maybe).

(I also wouldn't put it all on Columbia when radio stations also have a role in it)

How many years you think it's going to take for "All I Want For Christmas Is You" to take over "Old Town Road" as the song with most weeks at #1? Because at this rate it's going to happen eventually.

[up] It could likely surpass Lil Nas X's record in around five years, more or less. It depends on whether or not Christmas music will continue to get bigger and bigger every Christmas season, whether or not Billboard will implement rules that would prevent Christmas songs from taking over the charts, and whether or not it'll continue being the top Christmas song for the next several years.

24kGoldn and iann dior makes a big jump back to number one as the Christmas music makes their exit out of the chart. This also causes many other songs to jump back to the top 10, with The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" making the biggest return as it breaks the record for the highest Hot 100 chart reentry, reentering at #3 after being pushed into recurrency by all the Christmas music last week.

Other songs that return to the top 10 are Ariana Grande's "positions", Justin Bieber's "Holy" featuring Chance the Rapper, BTS's "Dynamite", Chris Brown and Young Thug's "Go Crazy" (which reaches a new peak of #6 after peaking at #9 during the summer last year), Drake's "Laugh Now Cry Later" featuring Lil Durk, and Gabby Barrett's "I Hope" featuring Charlie Puth. Dua Lipa's "Levitating" featuring DaBaby also enters the top 10 for the first time, giving Dua her third top 10 hit and DaBaby his fifth.

It's worth noting that, because the first day of the sales/streaming tracking period for this week's chart was Christmas Day, Christmas music hasn't completely disappeared from the chart this week as Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is still in the top 10 at #9, but it'll definitely leave the chart next week along with whatever remaining Christmas songs are still on the chart.

YESSSS!!! I’m so happy for SZA.

That Driver’s License song, though, I can’t really get into it. The vocals are there and I like the concept but the performance comes off as pretty whiny.
